Record 8 Gold as Phelps rewrites history

US super swimmer Michael Phelps took out his eighth Gold Medal today in Beijing, creating history as the only athlete to win eight Gold at a single Olympiad.

Phelps was part of the men’s US relay ahead of Australia which won Silver and Japan which took Bronze.

Phelps already has another record under his belt having won more Olympic Gold across his career than any other athlete, surpassing US swimmer Mark Spitz, U.S. sprinter Carl Lewis, Finnish distance runner Paavo Nurmi and Soviet gymnast Larysa Latynina.
