The heat is on… I think…

I’m no sports addict, but like the rest of the country I enjoy watching a few of the events, including the swimming.

So I’d really like Seven to help me understand what it is I’m watching with a few discreet titles. This is especially important if you have tuned in halfway through an event.

Is it a final? Is it a heat? How many more laps are there to go? How excited should I be right now?

It’s infuriating.

Would it be so hard to ‘watermark’ each race with the word ‘Final’ or ‘Heat’ and to clock down how many remaining laps are to follow? I have no idea if when they reach the end of the pool a gold medal is to be decided or if there are 6 more laps of another heat.

And while we’re at it the words “Live” and “Replay” wouldn’t hurt either. Yesterday when Seven came back from a commercial break it was mid-way through a swim. Was this a replay, or had Seven interrupted live swimming with a commercial break and we were now swinging back to the live action. Who can tell?

I know an Olympic pool is 50m in length, but I’ve taken to watching the little Olympic record marked as the swimmers hit the pool to give me an indication of how fast the race is likely to be run. Just up and back or pace it for a long one…?

For couch-side sports experts these things might be obvious, but I reckon ‘the great unwashed’ could do with a little more assistance.

Presumably the same problems will apply for athletics races. Let’s get on top of it now, hey?
