Colosimo first guest on Top Gear Australia

Vince Colosimo will be Top Gear Australia‘s first studio guest, Monday week. In a cross-promotion for SBS’ upcoming drama Carla Cametti P.D., the rest of Colosimo’s details are being kept under wraps.

Colismo is expected to appear as the “Star in a Reasonably Priced Car” segment that has become an institution in the UK version.

The Stig who is also confirmed to be a regular, but nobody is saying if it’s the “same” Stig as the UK.

SBS is playing its cards close to its chest with Top Gear -no previews are available to media prior to its launch. Normally that means a show is a dud (90210 anyone?) but in this case it’s probably more to do with the late studio recordings.

Certainly the 2 minute ‘sizzle reel’ sent to TV Tonight looks enticing, handsomely shot and unashamedly Aussie.

How well Charlie Cox, Warren Brown and Steve Pizzati will click is still an unknown quantity. Suffice to say come Monday September 29, the commercial networks will be holding on for dear life.

Press Release:
If you thought the Brits had done it all with Top Gear – wait until you see Top Gear Australia, debuting on SBS Television on Monday 29 September at 7:30pm.

In the first episode of an eight-part series, hosts Charlie Cox, Warren Brown and Steve Pizzati play hard with all-wheel drives on sand and snow.

There is a glimpse of the new LP560 Lamborghini Gallardo super sportscar, Charlie test drives the latest Porsche 911 and Warren tests the appetite of Great White Sharks off the coast of Port Lincoln – using himself as the bait.

One of Australia’s hottest actors, Vince Colosimo (starring in SBS’s Carla Cametti, PD), is Top Gear Australia’s first studio guest.

“Surf, snow, sand, sharks and supercars – episode one of Top Gear Australia has got the lot!” said Top Gear Australia’s SBS Executive Producer, Denise Eriksen.

“Charlie, Warren and Steve – well, Charlie and Steve – have driven like stars and Warren has done his best with sharks and sausages.”

“SBS is incredibly proud of this first episode in an amazing new series which takes Australia’s passion for cars in exciting new directions.”

Top Gear Australia debuts on SBS, Monday 29 September at 7:30pm.

What a lot of crap! Charlie Cox is an absolute wanker, the epitome of a pretentious Australian. Warren Brown is probably going to be okay, obviously cast in the James May role, and Steve Pizzati as Hammond is going to take some getting used to. The “reasonably priced car” is an import – a bloody Proton, instead of something Australian.
And Vince Colosimo? Please – I thought it was supposed to be a “STAR in a reasonably priced car”, not some d**k from the telly who can barely act.
The vibe between the guys doesn’t quite gel. Cox – put your flaming hands down mate – you look as stupid as you sound. Perhaps work out where the camera is once in a while, sit still, and leave your eyes open when you’re on camera. And p**s off The Stig! – just a little bit of originality would have been nice.
Final summation – woeful. Sorry to Warren & Steve, but the mix is all wrong and the show is trying too hard to be the original Top Gear. You’ve attempted to take something that works naturally and recreate it – patently without much success. I doubt very much that I’ll tune in next week. It’s too frustrating.

It won’t be the real stig. But i hope the show is as good as the UK version. At least we’ll get to see the lowdown on our cars. Does anyone know if they’ll be looking at older model cars as well?

In the sizzle reel I saw he is driving an underwater car (I think)….in context it looks like the sort of whacky ideas the UK show does.

“Warren tests the appetite of Great White Sharks off the coast of Port Lincoln – using himself as the bait.” ??? I hope this has something to do with cars…

This guy’s everywhere. I liked him on Underbelly but now he’s appearing on 3 networks at the same time, with Underbelly & Scorched on Nine, City Homicide on Seven, and Top Gear and CCPD on SBS

This is sounding more like the UK version but I don’t care, that’s a winning formula so why mess with it, if it has an Aussie slant then they are on a winner but I don’t think it will get more than 1 million viewers. It will still be a hit for SBS I’m sure and get them more attention.
