David Jason quitting Touch of Frost

After sixteen years, Britain's oldest on air detective is hanging up his coat and scarf.

Sir David Jason is to quit his role as Detective Inspector Jack Frost in ITV’s drama A Touch Of Frost.

The 68-year-old will play the character in three new episodes to air next month in the UK before filming a final two-parter next year.

“It’s time to move on” Sir David commented at a London press conference. “Frost is getting a little long in the tooth – it’s time for Frost to hang up his coat and scarf.”

A Touch of Frost began in 1992. Last year, Jason signed an exclusive deal with ITV preventing him from working for any other broadcaster.

Jason’s main reason for quitting the role was that he is now the oldest detective on television and he felt that it was ‘natural’ to retire as Frost. Sir David said: “You wouldn’t want me to play Frost in a wheelchair, would you?”

“Frost is getting a little long in the tooth. I still enjoy doing it and it’s a great part but I just think he’s got to retire. It’ll be a sad day.”

The actor added that there will not be a dry eye in the house when the inspector solves his last case.

“Perhaps he just retires gracefully, gets the gold watch and walks away from Denton nick, tears all round. He just hangs up his hat,” he said.

  1. Well hello from us downunder, we have just had the final Frost here tonight on channel 7two Melbourne Australia it was wonderful to go through the episodes again I and we just loved the show and what a pleasure it was to be with you all again.

All of your shows David have been exeptional to watch and enjoy I wish things would never end BUT I suppose that is being selfish as you need time to be with you and yours.

Love your work and love the way you throw yourself into it, I am not sure the likes of you and your great mates will ever be repeated you are a dying breed.

    More power to you.

    Fondest Regards Christine Bennett xxxxxxxxxxxxoooooooooooo

  2. I have watched inspector frost when i could and loved everything about him,it will be a sad day when frost hangs up his coat, you can cry, laugh, yell an be baffled at some of his cases.I wish some of these actors we grow to respect would come out to Australia so their fans could meet them,I really love David Jason.

  3. we in australia are still watching many repeats up to year 2000
we would love to see the later series.
they are only shown on an unreliable source here notably a commercial channel.

  4. Ive watched Frost from the very start ,and even though here in Australia we’re way behind have never missed one episode.David gives this character his unique talent and makes him humorous but determined in his work. He makes police human and as vunerable as everyone else.It will be a sad day when it ends, but all good things do have to come to an end.So whatever the future holds I say good on you David

  5. Sad, but I think it is the right decision.

Hope David will now do some more ‘Diamond Geezer’s’. If you haven’t seen this series (4 episodes I think), check it out. It is excellent.
