Mr Walter has accepted a position at leading Melbourne radio talk station 3AW, presenting the afternoon shift.
He said it was an extremely tough decision to leave the WIN News team. “I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of presenting WIN News,” Mr Walter said.
“It has been an absolute honour to deliver the news that matters most to local communities, every weeknight for the past 15 years.”
“If there was a way to combine both roles, I would jump at it.”
“This local news service is unmatched anywhere in Australia and I remain extremely proud to have been a part of that,” he said.
Mr Walter started his news reading career with WIN in 1992, after presenting the weather for National Nine News in Melbourne.
Overseeing a period of great change in the industry, Mr Walter went from presenting two local news bulletins a day to six bulletins every weekday for all regions of Victoria and southern New South Wales.
A renowned singer and entertainer, Mr Walter has also been involved in metropolitan radio, corporate shows and concerts around Australia.
He has been a regular performer on Carols by Candlelight for more than 21 years.
WIN Corporation’s Executive Chairman, Andrew Gordon recognised the contribution Denis has made over the years.
“We really appreciate Denis’ commitment to WIN and wish him all the best,” Mr Gordon said.
WIN Victoria General Manager Michael Taylor said Mr Walter’s contribution was significant over the past 15 years.
“Denis’ dedication to presenting six local news bulletins every single weeknight to our Victorian viewers is unsurpassed,” Mr Taylor said.
“Denis leaves WIN News in a strong position and no doubt he will be a success at 3AW – we wish him well.”
Mr Walter will read his final WIN News bulletin in November.
