Grant Denyer injured in truck stunt

Seven personality Grant Denyer was injured after a stunt with a monster truck went wrong in Wollongong today.

Denyer was behind the wheel of a five and a half ton, two and a half meter high monster truck vehicle doing a demonstration jump over five wrecked cars when he landed heavily on the ground resulting in a compressed fracture of a lower vertebrae.

A Seven statement said “Grant was taken by ambulance to the Wollongong Hospital. Doctors are conducting tests. Grant is comfortable and resting.

“Doctors will keep Grant in hospital overnight. This will allow the swelling in his back to reduce so that a more clear picture will emerge tomorrow.”

The owner of the monster truck, Clive Featherby, said it appeared Denyer took his foot off the accelerator too soon as he landed.

“He lost a bit too much momentum and that’s why it landed so hard,” he said.

“The poor bugger was lying under the truck while we were waiting for the ambulance and he was apologising to me.

” I said: ‘Don’t be stupid, I just want to make sure you’re OK.’ “

Denyer was attending a media day to promote this Saturday’s Monster Truck Event at the Dapto Showground.

Man, poor Grant. I hope it’s not too serious and he is ok. I was looking forward to seeing him drive this weekend, he has been improving so much, every time he stepped foot in the truck.

Get well soon Grant, hope you make Bathurst, and hope to see you back in the truck too!

Craig, I have checked at the Sunrise website’s production blog ( http://au.lifestyle.yahoo.com/b/sunrise/9041/sunrise-daily-production-blog ) and they have noted that Grant would be “spending a bit of time recovering in bed”,

I have also heard that they have scheduled a phone interview with Denyer tomorrow…

I hope he’s okay, I did read he was planning to be on Sunrise tomorrow, is that still happening?
