shocking ratings for Fringe not getting a million viewers especially for all the promotion that they did for it.

  2. Benno September 18, 2008 at 1:43 pm -

Well finally viewers have taken note of the appalling treatment of channel 9 shows, and the ratings fall short of their expectations, so i think, being channel 9, they will pull it very soon from that time slot. On a side note, in the US, house got around 13 million viewers for its premiere, and fringe got about 4 million more viewers in its second week, proving that lead-ins work.

  3. Chris September 18, 2008 at 12:45 pm -

Ch9 would have to be so disappointed with the figures for Fringe. That is an awful start considering how much time they have spent promoting it! And im sure the numbers will only get worse, esp against House and CM.
If they are consistent they will bump it and replace it with a movie, just like every other night on ch9 lol
There is no way ch9 can save this yr. apart from sun and thurs their schedule is very bare and has no hope against ch7 who are dominating monday and tues nights.
So glad aussie shows are going so well this yr esp Rafters. Lets hope it doesnt go the way of Always Greener!
Also loved Katherine Deveny’s article on saturday about Hole in the Wall – “Hole in the Head” – so true!!

  4. Dan September 18, 2008 at 12:33 pm -

I did watch Fringe last night, wanted to see what the hype was about and thought it looked like a good show. I was disappointed though, thought the acting was poor and it all seemed a bit too try hardy, so yeah won’t be tuning in next week. I’m glad people are finally over Gordon Ramsay, couldn’t see what the fuss was about in the first place, maybe some people just get a kick out of hearing bad language but not me.

I got to say that I’m really disappointed with Bondi Rescue Bali as well. I really enjoy the normal series but this seems to be a bit over the top and condescending and I find myself cringing to much. They can’t blame Taken Out for the ratings now either.

  5. Rutzie September 18, 2008 at 12:16 pm -

The way channel Nine were promoting Fringe you’d think it was the best show ever made. They’d be disappointed with those numbers. Not even getting a million viewers but still a decent start. And with House back next Wednesday I give it one more week before it’s pushed to either 9.30pm or 10.30pm.

  6. Craig September 18, 2008 at 11:59 am -

Well I guess 0.935m is not too bad for fringe but loosing numbers from a high of 2.5 Men 1.375m and Hole 1.112m is not good and then Ramsey dragging the night down with just 0.567m. SYTYCD even beat Fringe and they have House to face one-on-one next week!

I give Fringe 2 weeks and it will run after some half-ass movie on Wednesday night if not taken off completely! And I like the show.

  7. Jezza September 18, 2008 at 11:59 am -

dissapointing numbers for fringe, nine was putting everything into a good start for the series

  8. Tash September 18, 2008 at 11:50 am -

wow…considering the somewhat success of the Fringe Sneak Peak, the actual episode didnt do very well. I watched it, but mainly for Josh Jackson though :p And he didnt fail to impress <33

  9. Mitchell Pinnegar September 18, 2008 at 11:48 am -

I really hope 9 doesnt pull Ramsays due to those dissapointing figures. It’s a great show, and i’m sure if it WAS PUT IN A SUITABLE TIME SLOT then it would be successful again. I really am sick of these stupid networks putting once-successful shows in crappy slots and then pulling them due to lack of ratings. Seriously, how stupid can they get!

  10. Craig September 18, 2008 at 9:36 am -

I doubt Fringe will save ch9 in the ratings that season and while I like the pilot and will be back I’ll reserve judgment until we get into the series a little more.

BTW why was the pilot 10 minutes shorter than the leaked per-aired pilot at only 71 minutes (with credits), what was the running time for the final aired version in the US? I did notice some scenes were shorter but 10 minutes it a lot of cutting!

  11. seanie September 17, 2008 at 11:50 pm -

Spunkymonkey I think you’re clutching at straws there, are you suggesting The Mentalist and Fringe could win 9 the year? They have holes all over the schedule – im sure they wouldnt mind one or two of 7′s hit factuals to fill those slots either. I dont see the problem with factuals, they are more stimulating and informative than an episode of brain dead Hole in the wall, Taken Out, or Make me a Supermodel.

  12. RichoTB September 17, 2008 at 11:02 pm -

Well said spunkymonkeycaesar, BS truly is an abominable show. I think some factual series are worthwhile to keep the oldies happy e.g. Better Homes & Gardens, Getaway, The Outdoor Room, RSPCA Animal Rescue, etc. but certainly not one thats pathetically bigoted and condescending like BS. Its disgusting. Also, you make good points on the ratings comparisons, Nine do have the potential to win weeks if only they’d start thinking about their programming more. A good place to start would be to get rid of the Monday movies and place some fresh programming there like The Mentalist, Pushing Daisies, Chuck, etc. Doing things like pulling the new McLeods Daughters season isn’t the smartest thing to do, especially when you’ve got fans who’ve been watching that show for 8 years.

  13. Craig September 17, 2008 at 7:47 pm -

spunkymonkeycaesar I don’t this people will get sick of Rafters, it will likely take some kind of break over xMas but whether it can keep up the good stories will be the key. You have to remember most US shows have 22 ep season and we can’t get enough of some of them.

It’s still early days for Rafters with just 4 eps down so lets see where it is in a couple of month at the end of the ratings season.

  14. Johnny September 17, 2008 at 7:45 pm -

Whatever happened to Make Me A Supermodel on Tuesday night? Hopefully its fallen so far down that it didnt even get a rating?

  15. George September 17, 2008 at 7:20 pm -

Rush is such a fantastic show! I can’t believe it isn’t getting the 1.5+ million it deserves.
I reckon NCIS and Rush should be flipped around to see how it’ll go in the 8:30 timeslot. And seeing as new NCIS episodes won’t be coming for a couple of weeks now it’ll be interesting to see if Rush gains some more momentum with ratings, and then in turn in 2 weeks when NCIS returns if the ratings get either better or stay the same.

Also Neighbours has really been going freefall for the past couple of weeks. The producers, directors, writers, even most of the actors need a good kick up the butt. The quality of the show has gotten better over the years, and I’m liking a lot of the storylines, but I reckon they need to do something quirky every now and again and the actors need to be able to do what they’re paid for! ACT!
Because of the wide variety of actors, they really need to be on par with one another, because at one point a scene will play and the acting will be very good, you’ll be able to be swept into the storyline, and then it changes to Sienna, Nicola, Miranda, or one of the others who can’t act to save their life and you just fall out of the story and it feels like you’re watching paint dry.
Neighbours is a good show and it needs a TRUE overhaul, not just new pretty graphics.

And Packed To The Rafters looks alright, but I haven’t really been able to get into it as much as I have with shows such as Canal Road, Rush, Underbelly… (Jeeze.. Favoring Melbourne much? lol)

Underbelly isn’t going as well as what I expected, but seeing as it was downloaded so much. I watched the premiere, loved it but on Tuesday NCIS was on so I watched that instead. :P
Hey David, how did NCIS go in Melbourne on Tuesday?

Also I’m curious about Rush’s figures for Melbourne. I’m expecting Rush to have a large amount of Melbournian viewers. David to the rescue? xD

  16. Spunkymonkeycaesar September 17, 2008 at 7:04 pm -

David, could you please note the ratings for 20 To 1 last night? – That would be much appreciated!

    Many Thanks,

    - Spunkymonkeycaesar

  17. spunkymonkeycaesar September 17, 2008 at 5:50 pm -

Gee, everyone seems to be really quick to judge the success of Underbelly in Melbourne. I however think Underbelly is doing fantastic, as many have already stated those who really wanted to watch the series would have found their own means to watch it, so to me even 400 000 viewers many months later is great!

As for Packed To The Rafters, call me a cynic but unfortunately I don’t think it will last, yes the show has been pulling figures of no less than 1.8 Million viewers each week, but give it time. For a show which has 22 episodes in its first season I predict it will flop before seasons end or during the second season – 22 episodes is more than half a ratings year, surely people will get sick of it!

I too am going to join the I hate factual / cop / police procedural shows such as Boarder Security, as I too think it is nothing but utter crap, and anyone who watches it must be biggoted – I can’t belive the ACMA allows such a racist, derogatory program to air! Australian’s should be ashamed!

Loz, I’ve been keeping a tally of Seven and Nine’s performances this year so here it is to date:
    Seven: 18
    Nine: 10
One week both networks tied – It must be noted before people though are quick to judge, four of seven’s eight week lead is thanks to the Olympics! Nine can still possibly pull this year’s ratings year off. Seven will win this week due to their audience shares of Monday and Tuesday alone, however after this week with ten ratings weeks to go, Seven will only have a nine week lead so Nine of course in winning this years ratings year would have to win every single week from this point onwards. Which, I personally think is doable, considering many new US hit shows are still to come namely The Mentalist.

  18. classclown September 17, 2008 at 4:55 pm -

David I have a few questions: (1) Who has the biggest numbers for morning news? (2) If TEN leads Daytime, where does Seven fall down? (3) Do you think you could please do a compleate 24hr ratings once and a while, if it’s possible? Thanx.

  19. loz September 17, 2008 at 3:48 pm -

David, would it be possible for you to put a tally of how many weekly ratings wins each network has in the ratings tab, so that we can check with a click of a button.
    Thanks

  20. seanie September 17, 2008 at 3:09 pm -

For what was billed as such a massive show, and to get those numbers in its home state have got to be dissapointing though.

Beaten by PTTR by 160k in Melb alone, and to be in front of NCIS by only 70k. I know some have already sourced copies but people were still expecting 800k – 1mill, with 9 expecting atleast 600k.

I would say it has fallen into mediocrity.

  21. Ant September 17, 2008 at 3:05 pm -

David Knox how do you get ratings for individual cities

  22. David Knox September 17, 2008 at 1:50 pm -

But be fair… if you really want to compare Underbelly to Taken Out we should stick to Melb numbers which were 429,000 / 180,000.

    At 8:30 Melb: Rafters 589,000, Underbelly 429,000, NCIS 363,000.

  23. Benno September 17, 2008 at 1:50 pm -

You are comparing taken out in 5 cities with underbelly in 1 city…….

  24. danness September 17, 2008 at 1:46 pm -

nwest, Underbelly is only being shown in Victoria, so I would say that 500,000 is a pretty good result.

  25. nwest September 17, 2008 at 1:20 pm -

All that money spent to get 5 edited episodes of Underbelly to air and it rates even less than Taken Out. Nine can put whatever spin they want on it, but less than 0.5m is not a good result. PTTR is going great guns and so it should with such strong story lines. Underbelly was a great series, byut anyone who wanted to really see it already has. 2009 is now Sevens for the taking.

  26. RB September 17, 2008 at 11:49 am -

90210 again gets poor total ratings but apparently it again wins the key demographic. 10 will take that up against CH. Does anyone recall what the OC’s ratings were during its run as a comparison for 90210? or even the old beverly hills 90210 (although that was a long time ago)

Rafters continues to dominate however its competition will also be happy with the numbers they got. NCIS rated well enough and 2.5 men/underbelly worked well.

Good to see Rush improve to back over a mil. Doing well for 10, in spite of a poor timeslot choice, and deservedly so. Last nights ep was great

  27. seanie September 17, 2008 at 11:42 am -

Well Underbelly barely made a dent on PTTR, which is still going strong with 1.9 mill viewers, I’d expected it to drop much lower than that by now but it is a quality show and I can see why people are watching. Good to see Rush back over 1 mill.

  28. jase72 September 17, 2008 at 11:22 am -

Benno, people like good factual shows, there are a lot out there that are crap which do not rate.

  29. jase72 September 17, 2008 at 11:17 am -

PTTR went well again last night especially up against underbelly

  30. jak September 17, 2008 at 11:03 am -

Im Suprised but glad Packed to the Rafters didn’t feel much pain from Underbelly in Melbourne. Awesome result!

Seven should never have put Dancing up against 60 minutes!! They used to share the same audience so pitting Dancing against 60 minutes and skewing it to a younger audience means the oldies have left and the young ones are watching Idol. I.2 million for two hours on a Sunday is good though, but if they were going to insist on it being on a Sunday night they should have put it on at 6:30 and then people are well into it by the time 60 minutes rocks around.

I think Dancing will bounce back a little this weekend because Underbelly in Melbourne will be a hundred thousand people or so softer. Outdoor room and Battlefronts will be closer too.

I think 9 is down for the count for the year. Fringe might get some curiosity tonight but will bomb by week 2.

  31. Benno September 17, 2008 at 10:54 am -

What is it with people’s obsession with factual shows?

  32. RichoTB September 16, 2008 at 9:23 pm -

I agree with you Tepee. I never got the obsession with factual series, especially absolute turd like Border Security. And the sad thing is that that “program” gets whopping ratings and will most likely continue to be a flagstone for Seven for decades to come. I sincerely hope the people who watch that show don’t judge members of other ethnicities based on the select sample who try to bring drugs and vegetables into our country, as it really is just an unfair representation of other cultures just because a select few ethnic individuals seem to be smuggling things every week.

I’m not really into police procedurals either, but every once in a while I give one a shot. Some, I find great (Life), others I find mediocre (Criminal Minds – although it may have gotten better now that Joe Montagna or whatever his name is is now the lead actor). As for the Aussie cop shows, I thought The Strip was generic, haven’t caught Rush, and City Homicide is the best of the bunch, mainly because the characters in the series are constructed well and they aren’t just a bunch of shallow, one-sided cardboard cutouts like on other shows. I’m interested in how Fringe will go tomorrow against Criminal Minds and the SYTYCD finale. It might actually exceed expectations ratings-wise, with all the promotion that Nine’s been given for it.

  33. Anne R September 16, 2008 at 7:37 pm -

hey david i was just wondering how is it that you get the ratings for all from all of the channels and how do they know how many people are watching the show?

  34. Craig September 16, 2008 at 6:57 pm -

I love Torchwood but ch10 tried it on the main channel and it didn’t work, not that Burn Notice is doing much better, I just hope ch10 sticks with is at I love BN just as much as TW but I’ve seen TW *cough* and don’t get 10HD here!

IMO Ten might not be happy with 90210 but against City I doubt they could do much better, maybe it would work better on Fridays, with less delay for the US showing?

  35. Luke W September 16, 2008 at 6:53 pm -

Fantastic ratings for City Homicide, which I continue to enjoy every Monday night.

A thought has just come to me with the ratings though. Do the ratings count for both the SD and HD simulcasts of a program or just the SD because I heard that HD ratings are currently not being counted, or is it just HD only programs? Thanks.

  36. Kes September 16, 2008 at 6:06 pm -

Pen – thanks, how disappointing about SJA thought the ABC would have that one.
Why the hell are the ABC letting all of the spinoffs go to other stations.
Oh well I will just keep using sneaky methods.

  37. HughGCox September 16, 2008 at 5:48 pm -

They don’t just survey from the capital cities but from country areas as well. My family has been asked a few times and we live in a town of around 10 000 people.

Besides, if there was a fault with the ratings system the advertisers would have figured it out by now.

  38. Rutzie September 16, 2008 at 5:26 pm -

Nine had a big chance of winning the week on the back of Sunday’s performance but they just threw it away last night with poor programming. Those numbers for City Homicide are outstanding. It is just going from strength to strength.

  39. Tepee September 16, 2008 at 5:26 pm -

I can’t believe the crap that’s ALWAYS in the top ten every Monday. Apart from ‘City Homicide’ (although I’m not really into the whole crime/cop/police thing – ughh!), all the other top-rating programmes are terrible: ‘Border Security’ is borderline racist, ‘Today Tonight’ and ‘ACA’ have sunk lower than they have EVER gone, ‘The Force’ – police again (is this obsession?!) …

Meanwhile further down the list there’s quality current affairs and docos: ‘Four Corners’, ‘Attenborough’, ‘Australian Story’ and an excellent sitcom banished to an after-hours slot: ’30 Rock’.

What are viewers thinking?! Makes me angry.

  40. James September 16, 2008 at 5:26 pm -

Can Cheenal 10 take 90210 off and replace it withTorchwood because most people dont have the High Defenission networks

I heard that it samples 6,000 households in capital cities, so my only fault with it is that it doesn’t sample regional cities to include in the official ratings along with capital cities. That, and the wins for the networks don’t include 18-49, which would certainly bring dancing with the stars and more, low figures in that category. It would be far too expensive to get everyone in the country to participate, not to mention not everyone would comply, so its the best we’ve got, and i think it’s accurate to a large degree – unfortunately meaning too many factual/reality shows. I believe that Neilson in america extrapolates the data to the whole country, and not just 60% like in aus.

  42. RichoTB September 16, 2008 at 4:26 pm -

I don’t get how the ratings system works either, its odd, but I guess its credible enough for the ratings to get published in sources like this.

  43. Dakota September 16, 2008 at 4:09 pm -

I honestly think the whole Ratings Box system is flawed. I can understand why there isn’t one in each tv, but surely it can’t be an exactly accurate measurement of the Australian Audience, especially the younger set who still live with parents and multiple tvs in houses. I guess I should just leave the subject alone, but i’m just saying I wish there was a way of measuring more people for ratings and see what the results end up like.

  44. John September 16, 2008 at 2:10 pm -

    bindi, I think one box = 3000 people. can’t remember…

  45. Lewis September 16, 2008 at 2:03 pm -

Last night’s episode of City Homicide was fantastic. It deserves the 1.8 million it gets.

  46. Clarrisani September 16, 2008 at 1:29 pm -

Wish they’d get rid of 90210 and put Torchwood on mainstream Ten and not just HD. With Doctor Who doing as well as it is I’m sure Torchwood would as well if treated right.

  47. ka-ching September 16, 2008 at 12:36 pm -

A lot of Idol fans also watch Dancing with the Stars & SYTYCD. Therefore any clash of these shows would have an effect somewhere along the line. I would prefer to be able to watch Idol & DWS but choose to watch Idol and can’t be bother recording DWS and watching it later.

  48. bindi September 16, 2008 at 12:20 pm -

yeah 90210 did hold well didn’t it, only down like 20, 000, what is that like 1 or 2 people with ratings boxes coz that’s about how many people one of them represents isn’t it?

  49. Dan September 16, 2008 at 12:04 pm -

I don’t really understand the timeslot for 90210, isn’t this mainly a show aimed at young teenages. Starting at 8.45pm, I would think is too late, should it be on in a 7.30 slot. I would have thought maybe Friday night would be better, I mean I don’t watch it myself but hey if you want kids to go to bed early then not really that suitable.

No real surprises with the ratings last night though, Idol was boring so I expect it to drop even lower next week.

Go Doctor Who, seems I’m not the only one who thinks it’s great, good on you guys :)

  50. Simonjh September 16, 2008 at 11:37 am -

DWTS Such a drop, bad night to air it and also trying to sex it up porbably has lost the usual watchers to 60 Minutes.
Also the show it self is a bit sloppy, so very odd camera angles when the dancers are on you don’t get the whole dance it focuses on their feet. seems the producers have tried to change the reliable aspects of the show,

Also love or Hate Daryl there was some warmth in his hosting Daniel seems to be a bit like a cue card Robot.

  51. Pen September 16, 2008 at 11:14 am -

I’m so pleased that Doctor Who and Confidential were both up from last week. Hopefully we can get the Tele Movie barrage a bit earlier. Good to see 90210 maintaining.

Kes – Yeah, apparently Nickelodeon bought the first two season from BBC recently. http://www.sfsa.org.au/news.php?cod=409

  52. seanie September 16, 2008 at 11:07 am -

Well didnt 9 fall from grace last night. A rerun of a rerun of a movie does not work and they deserve those shocking numbers.

Ten is falling apart, with Idol barely scraping 1mill in a very flawed and eastern state biased results show. As for Taken Out, I think everything that needs to be said has. On the plus side 90210 held most viewers from last week, on the other hand they have killed Burn Notice.

City Homicide absolutely dominating hitting massive numbers and Bones does well with its biggest numbers to date. Boston Legal doing very respectably for late night.

  53. Kes September 16, 2008 at 10:25 am -

Woohoo The Doctor beat DWTS, and has rated over 1mil for 12 straight weeks.

It’s fantastic to see this superb show doing so deservedly well, it’s the best thing that has been on TV in the last 5 years – every episode is like a small movie it’s just wonderful. I have become a total Doctor obsessive since the new series began in 2005, it’s just fabulous.
Now maybe 10 will wake up and screen the spin off Torchwood on their regular channel at a reasonable time.
And has anyone bought the othe rgreat spin off Sarah Jane Adventures, this show is gorgeous.

  54. Benno September 16, 2008 at 8:55 am -

I haven’t watched DWTS, so I wouldn’t know much about the pacing of the show, but the show goes for 2 hours (and 10 minutes overtime) every week, so perhaps the fact that it gets stretched out to the point of boredom in one evening every week is the problem.

  55. Kerry Packer September 16, 2008 at 1:13 am -

*So You Think You Can Dance* has killed off *Dancing With The Stars*

After being enthralled by watching the pros compete, viewers aren’t interested in going back to the amateurs

  56. knoxoverstreet September 15, 2008 at 10:57 pm -

Dan Andy is right in a way,Daryl appealed to the right demographic that watched this show. The same demographic that probably can’t warm to the personality vacuum that is Daniel McPherson. The show has tried to bring in a younger demographic and lost some of the older ones to 60 Minutes. Daryl leaving plus taking on 60 Minutes equals bye bye Dancing.

  57. Jerome September 15, 2008 at 10:09 pm -

what a shame about DWTS. i really thought that this would be one of the better rating seasons given the advertising during the olympics, the fact that it hasn’t been on in a year, and a move to a more viewers night.

I guess it has just passed its expiry date

maybe it would be better to go back to a weekday, 7 can’t occupy 2 hours of the most competitive timeslot of the week for much longer. can they?

  58. Alex September 15, 2008 at 7:17 pm -

I thinks that its great to see Dr Who tipping over 1.1 million!

  59. Dan September 15, 2008 at 7:02 pm -

Andy, are you serious in that you think that the absence of Daryl has anything with the drop in ratings. Daryl Sommers was the most annoying personality on TV and the reason why I recorded the show and fastforwarded everytime he spoke, danced and sang, which he does badly. I was glad Daryl got pushed out of the show.

  60. andy September 15, 2008 at 6:27 pm -

I think we can safely say now that viewers are not yet sick of Aus Idol, much to the dismay of many I’m sure. But who would have thought dancing would do so poorly? a combination of an absence of daryl and the shift to sunday.

  61. Kat September 15, 2008 at 5:44 pm -

Ohh; the Fringe sneak peek had a good night. I hope this bodes well for it :P I’m holding off getting it offline so i can watch it this week :)

Rove was quite low again. Unfortunate because it was one of the better episodes, the gags of Will Ferrel and Jonny C and even Steve Hooker were the best parts of the night. I think many Rove fans have already checked out and aren’t bothering anymore. K-Rudd’s on next week; I wonder what that’ll do to the ratings.

Midsomer Murders did great, my mother will be thrilled. :)

  62. James September 15, 2008 at 5:01 pm -

Im glad to see people are watching doctor who its a great seres im suprised it bet Dancing withthe stars

  63. Spunkymonkeycaesar September 15, 2008 at 4:59 pm -

Hi There David, I was wondering if you knew the ratings for the series return of Crime Investigation Australia even though it didn’t air in Victoria? Also David I was wondering if you would be able to tell me how Nine’s Sunday Morning News has been going since it’s launch in comparison to the Sunday program?

    Many Thanks,

    - Spunkymonkeycaesar

  64. David Knox September 15, 2008 at 4:49 pm -

It’s not really accurate as the Melb audience does not reflect what it would have gotten before net leaks and DVDs. But adding 584,000 to the first run of 1.32m gives 1.90m. We can safely assume it should have topped 2m if not for the ban.

  65. JM September 15, 2008 at 4:42 pm -

    Hey David
What are the figures for Underbelly if u add the rest of the country’s figures to the melbourne figures for last night? I know they arent accurate and as u said it would have been viewed by a bigger audience if it had aired at the same time as the rest of the country… but still interested to know…. and where would it rank in the top shows

  66. dav1975l September 15, 2008 at 3:58 pm -

Good to see such a great family show in Doctor Who rating so well.

  67. Tash September 15, 2008 at 2:55 pm -

I cant remember the last time Nine news beat Seven news, and by quite a bit of a margin as well.

Too bad about DWTS though, I enjoy it, but I guess going into its 6th (?) season, people are losing interest.

Sundays were never really good for Seven, but they succeed on other days, which is fine :)

  68. leeds September 15, 2008 at 1:45 pm -

yeh but it will be interesting to see how many people watch it though on wednesday.

  69. knoxoverstreet September 15, 2008 at 1:08 pm -

I’m sure Seven did the same thing with a sneak peak last year? It was included in the ratings.

Anyway quite a good result for Underbelly..had it aired earlier would have topped 900k IMO. 60 Minutes back to the top and bye bye Dancing !!

  70. J September 15, 2008 at 12:50 pm -

What a massive drop for Seven!

  71. Chris September 15, 2008 at 12:04 pm -

Also, I think there are a number of factors that contributed to nines big win
    1. The rugby would have been a huge lead-in for its news
    2. Underbelly in Melb would have taken viewers away from dancing, idol and rove – i doubt all 600,000 would have watched CSI if it was on instead
    3. Battlefronts debut may have included many ‘curious’ about the 1st ep

Once the rugby and underbelly are gone it will be a much tighter night, tho ch9 prob still have a better line up overall

  72. RichoTB September 15, 2008 at 11:57 am -

Thats surprising that Ten beat Seven. I don’t recall that happening before. I guess the novelty of DWTS is finally wearing off? Regardless, its still doing a lot better than the Private Practise/Lipstick Jungle triple episode thing they had going pre-Olympics.

  73. Chris September 15, 2008 at 11:47 am -

Surely the Fringe sneek peek cant be counted in the ratings? It was basically just a long ad!

  74. seanie September 15, 2008 at 11:42 am -

So 7 go from convincingly winning last Sunday to coming third? Dancing has got to be a massive dissapointment for 7, those numbers are getting quite low indeed. Underbelly didnt hit any where near 1 mill like some predicted. Based on those numbers I think Packed to the Rafters will still win in Melb, though it will likely lose some viewers and fall to around 1.8 nationally.

  75. Dan September 15, 2008 at 11:03 am -

I’m glad to see Doctor Who doing so well, it really is a good show. I was a big fan as a kid and probably enjoying the new series more then ever.

As for the other shows, Australian Idol, second in the timeslot, probably a good result. I did watch it and thought the talent was pretty ordinary, with the exception of Mark. Dancing with the Stars seems to be falling a bit, I think it’s expected and although I think they should leave it where it is, I do think Thursday nights would have been a better night for it. I’ve got a feeling that changes maybe on the way though. I’ve got to say though that Sunday 7.30 is a bugger of a night for me cause three of those shows I like to watch, with Doctor Who being the fav for me. The only one I don’t care about is 60 minutes, I’ve given up on all comercial current affairs programs, not as hard hitting as they use to be and way too much fluff.

  76. Jase72` September 15, 2008 at 11:00 am -

The mighty have fallen? one night? *shakes head*

  77. JOHNTV September 15, 2008 at 10:59 am -

Another great result for 60 minutes. It certainly looks like Rove is really struggling now, you can’t blame the lead in show anymore – the show lost 400k. Seven would also be disappointed with Dancing’s number.

Also, good scheduling from Nine meant that the Sneak Peek of Fringe actually got rated. It that the first time a 2 minutes “show” has rated more than 1 million ?

  78. David Knox September 15, 2008 at 10:57 am -

600,000 is excellent for Underbelly in Melbourne given everyone thought it had been viewed. It proves the show could have probably topped 800,000 in Melb if it had aired earlier this year.

  79. jak September 15, 2008 at 10:48 am -

Will be so interesting to see what affect Underbelly has on Packed to the Rafters. I hope none, but I think that is unlikely.

  80. William September 15, 2008 at 10:45 am -

Underbelly didnt get the figures i thought it would, still propelled 9 to the No. 1 position though.

And oh how the mighty have fallen (albeit only temporarily)! Channel 7 from 1st to 3rd. ouch!
