Underbelly prequel shoots next month

Underbelly 2 is due to start shooting in Sydney next month, with a ten week production period beginning October 13 to December 19th. The prequel will be set in the `70s and `80s and is based mainly in King’s Cross, and partly in Melbourne.

Eric Bana had been approached by Channel 9 for the upcoming prequel but is unavailable, his manager said today.

“Eric was grateful to be approached but is focusing on various film commitments,” his manager Lauren Bergman said today.

The cast and content is said to be vastly different from the first series with original actors Les Hill, Callan Mulvey, and Damian Walshe-Howling all unlikely to appear.

“It’s going to be a whole new set of characters based on real life people,” a Nine spokeswoman said.

“Due to the era, those characters would’ve been teenagers, hence why the actors can’t play them.”

The network could not confirm rumours that the show will focus on the background of Vince Colosimo’s character Alphonse Gangitano – known as the Black Prince Of Lygon Street.

Underbelly airs in Victoria Sunday night at 8:30pm on Nine.

Completely new actors? But I liked the old ones. This should still be interesting though, I’ll keep an eye out on news surrounding it.

With Blue Murder, that was based on Roger Rogerson and his way of dealing with people like Ned Smith, but there was an underworld saga unravelling there too amongst that but was never quite touched on. Maybe it’s something completely different, but who knows? Does anybody know an informative site on the Sydney underworld?

Sounds like Blue Murder territory to me. Will be very interesting to see what they come up with.
