I thought the ARIA’s were pretty entertaining – there is no way Cilmi deserved 6 awards for one song that she couldn’t even sing live though! Can anyone tell me if she wrote the music or lyrics to the song or is she just another industry plant?

Loved the Presets – awesome costumes – it’s about time we had some fun put back into the dance scene!!

Hamish and Andy are hellish. Why does every gag begin with the ugly one going “uhhhhhhhm” while the horse-faced one one giggles like an imbecile? Or am I missing the point? Is that their shtick – imbecillic giggling like a couple of tits in a pit. I mean, you know, God bless Rove for bringing to the fore such phenomenonally middle of the road, bland powerhouses for a defiantly dozing Aust of a Sundee evening. Of everything I know to be true, I know this; of all the people on telly, Hamish and Any are most definitely two of them. No matter what anyone says. Pete Hellier’s one as well, I spose. Someone “in the biz” once told me Hellier writes all his own stuff. I.. was.. gobsmacked. Remember when he went to that house in which two gay Melbourne men lived, live on TV, and said “If these walls could talk”? I laughed so hard my skin fell off . Where would this country be without Rove standing by his “technically it’s a tv program” machine, farting out solid programming like the ARIAS. He’s like a modern day Steve Vizard in the body of Daryl Somers, that Rove. If Rove were a children’s toy, he’d be a beige balloon you can’t inflate. If Rove were a cereal, he’d be half-grain. If Rove were a hair-care product, he’d have very little hold, but you could buy him everywhere, including petrol stations. And if Rove were a tv host, he’d be Rove f**king McManus.

What about Hamish on Thank God You’re here and Spicks and Specks? I know that the Arias wasn’t their best perfomance but it was still pretty good. They are better when they are not tied to a script or an autocue.

Erm, platinum (or triple) as a percentage of our population works out the same as it does in America, so it’s exactly equally as impressive (or unimpressive).

Gabriella Cilmi wasn’t an Idol or on Idol, she just performed on Idol tonight as a one-off and was given a framed record for sales of “Sweet About Me”. Idol winners tend to get shafted by the ARIA voters anyway.

Triple Platinum? This isn’t America, Platinum Sales isn’t a million, here in Australia, Platinum is 70,000 sales and a Gold album? A humble 35,000
So Deltas hugely selling album? Sold just under 220,000 copies. That’s not even a quarter of what her first album sold. From 1st to 3rd album the decline is drastically steep. Hence Delta’s acceptance speech made a reference to “buying”, she knows her album sales are extremely low. If the board just extended the voting period 3 months so the awards were every say 15-16 months? For this year in particular The Veronica’s would have out sold Delta by a third. But unfortunately that’s not how it works (and understandably so)
And yeah, I know Depeche Mode Ive seen them twice once here and the other time in Berlin, I see absolutely no similarity at all, different structures, social expressions and the Presets will never be in the same category as Martin Gore.

Gabriella did great, lets see what happens when she fully realizes that our industry has a very very low ceiling….

… Gabriella Cilmi was an Idol? That explains why she’s so bad and how she won then. I’m with Veee about Operator Please. I’m not a fan of them, but they certainly have more talent than Cilmi. They’re also teenagers and have done incredibly well for themselves without the aid of a rigged television show. They’re a perfect example of how you should become big – your own way like The Living End or The Presets. That way you’ll never be labeled a pretender… like the Idols.

I thought The Living End did a great job performing, as always. Unfortuately, they set a high standard. I was disapointed with Pink…I don’t know what I was expecting but if certainly wasn’t the performance she gave.

Congrats to Gabriella Cilmi for her six wins. Can’t blame her for not knowing what to say when she has said it previously for her other wins. And well, yes she won because of her single “Sweet About Me” not because of her album, when she was on Idol they gave her a large frame for her single not her album. But she’s got talent and Sweet About Me is a great song. I thought Vanessa Amorosi would’ve got a nomination at least. And I was hoping Sam Sparro would win something, but oh well.

Gabriella’s just the flavour of the month. Time will tell is she can back it up with a decent new album.

Vixen, The Presets’ latest album does indeed sound like Depeche Mode a LOT in places. I’m talking mid-80s Mode – “Some Great Reward”, “Construction Time Again”, that era. It’s not a payout, it’s a compliment.

Bye way, “grinding 3rds with no instrumental melody only vocal”? Have you ever listened to any Depeche Mode? Doesn’t sound like it.

Cilmi scooped the awards without anyone showing much love for the album. The second single sold a tiny fraction of what “Sweet About Me” did. And yes, she’s got talent and a great voice, “Sweet About Me” is a great song and so on. I just get tired of the ARIA voting thing where an artist that’s had a ton of exposure suddenly becomes the default winner in every category they’re nominated in. It’s lazy voting – but then, lazy voting has ALWAYS plagued the ARIAs. I know this. I’ve seen it.

Oh, and if Delta’s album bombed so badly, explain how it scored an award for being the highest selling album of the year, an album which debuted at #1 on the charts and has gone triple platinum…

have you noticed that we don’t have any RnB singers and i wanted operator please to win just one but didn’t because of Gabriella after she won 4 arias i knew she was going to be unstoppable the people who were nominated with her must feel bad because she got all of she had 6 noms and won all of them but congrats to her and i must agree i liked her song at first but now it’s just annoying i would die if i hear it again

Same with the Potbellyz song, was released two years ago. Still got a nom,
This wasn’t about awarding artists, it was trying to push people into the international arena.
Gabriella was just on ACA, she was talking about a “Bob Dylan” song and was then asked to sing a few bars, she broke into “Ring Of Fire” by Johnny Cash.
This is Australia’s highest profile musician/performer.

Benno I was gonna write the same thing about Faker before I read your comment. A woeful performance.

I like Gabriella but it would have been nice to have seen the awards spread around a bit.

And what about Delta and Vanessa Amorosi not even getting a nom? Vanessa’s seven year comeback didn’t even translate into one nomination, and her album’s not bad either. Yet Operator Please’s Yes Yes Vindictive and Missy Higgins’ “Peachy” are both old releases and they still got nominated!!

I stayed to watch the Arias after Idol last night. The hosts rocked and yes we could say that James was the professional one. The opening act with Hamish and Andy was great…

I really had to switch of when Gabriella Cilme won all the awards. I am not a fan of her or her song and i think that song is annoying as hell. But congrats to her for winning… however she was the reason why i couldn’t watch the whole show. Those speeches were bad!..

I watched a clip about it on Sunrise today and shes so stupid!- “And like i’d like to thank everyone, like i should be saying something, like”

… like seriously! she sucks.

I was really wondering what ratings Idol received in its earlier time slow. I wanna know cuz i’m scared if TEN will make 6.30 a permanent time slot if it got good ratings.

@ Clarrisani, Gabriella Chilmi has no talent?? whilst her song is somewhat annoying because it’s been thrashed by the radio stations, she has an amazing voice, especially for a 17 year old! Whilst I don’t like her style of music or her songs as such, even I can identify enormous amounts of talent. Now, the Veronicas on the other hand, how pathetic! They should stop ‘performing’ live to avoid the embarrassment. If not for the backing track that would’ve been close to the worst live performance i’ve seen. Gosh, i would’ve rathered them mime!!
