How AFL delayed local drama

NSW and Queensland viewers remain ahead of most of the country for City Homicide and The Strip.

Daylight saving may be coming this weekend to most Australian states but viewers in NSW and Qld are already ahead of the rest of the country when it comes to Australian drama.

City Homicide is still screening one week ahead of Vic, SA and WA due to a repeat episode airing against the Brownlow Medal. Seven obviously didn’t want to compete against the AFL‘s biggest night so it slipped the repeat quietly under the radar, leaving those states behind.

Next Monday NSW and Qld will see an episode with a killer’s links to the Iraq war, while the rest of the country will watch a plot with a prostitute predator which has already aird to viewers in Sydney and Brissy.

Meanwhile Victoria also lags behind the rest of the country with Channel Nine’s The Strip.

Last week Nine aired the AFL Footy Show live at 8:30pm in Victoria, holding off an episode of the Nine drama.

In Tasmania, The Strip is also a week behind on WIN Television.

Had the NRL Footy Show Grand Final been slated for 8:30 this week, things might have levelled out. But it was not to be.

This week episode 7 of The Strip airs across all cities, but next week Victoria and Tassie revert to ep 4 while ep 8 screens everywhere else.

Don’t even ask about eps 5 and 6….

Meanwhile its NRL this week that keeps Dancing with the Stars out of schedule. Another big sports night Seven didn’t care to contend with. It returns Sunday October 12.

  1. I suspect the reason for skipping Eps 5 & 6 is that Ep 7 (from the ad I’ve seen) is about an end of season footy trip (which ties in well with the NRL Grand Final).

  2. Great to see another Queenslander around. I actually thought I was the only regular Queensland commenter.

Yes DST throws everything out of whack on Foxtel, but what the FTA’s don’t realize is, everything live (except for the NRL GF, and probably the upcoming RL World Cup) produced in Sydney or Melbourne will be delayed one hour in Queensland from Sunday.

Seven has more to lose from the delay as they own both a Brisbane/Gold Coast metro station and a Queensland regional station (Seven Queensland).

DST delays for Seven will affect Sunrise, Dancing With The Stars, The Morning Show, Seven’s national 11am and 4:30pm bulletins and late night news updates.

  3. The problem for us in Qld is with DLS all of a sudden all payTV shows are an hour early (well most channels excluding some news) so you have to change your entire schedule.

It was stupid of seven to mess with CH not that it will hurt the ratings too much, but how do they catch up now? And WTF is Nine thinking with the Strip? are there problems with the missing eps?
