Prince Charles snubs Dr Who request

Russell T. Davies brands Prince Charles a "miserable swine" for turning down a guest role invite on Doctor Who.

Russell T. Davies, executive producer of Doctor Who, has called Prince Charles a “miserable swine” for declining a request to guest-star on the series.

“He turned us down, the miserable swine,” said Davies.

He let slip the comment to the BBC at a literature festival over the weekend. He was asked about the Prince’s appearance while talking about his new book Doctor Who: The Writer’s Tale.

According to the BBC, a spokesman for Prince Charles said, “We receive a great many requests, and it’s impossible to accept them all.”

Somehow I reckon Cpt. Jack would settle for Prince Harry in Torchwood by way of compensation…

  1. I’m surprised some people here took it so seriously. Of course Russell didn’t mean it. Come people lighten up.
After this we can freely speculate that one of those specials planned for 2009 (or Christmas) will involve Buckingham Palace as well. Maybe prince Charles would be shown as the new King? 🙂

  2. It is all quite silly really … but a lot of fun!
Remember, that Kylie’s appearance on Docotr Who started only as a rumour and suggestion from William baker to Russell T Davies (who thought “it will never happen”) and then, as Russell developed the Christmas episode it evolved around that idea and we ended up with the highest rating episode yet! Poor Russell is getting a bit of a bashing for this … and he states in his new book “The Writer’s Tale” that he hates the internet criticism that is everywhere these days … well, he sort of asked for it!

So I totally agree with the idea suggested on ABC Radio yesterday by the editor of the Doctor Who Club of Victoria’s magazine “Sonic Screwdriver” …
KATH and KIM would be a fantastic cameo on Doctor Who …
“look at moi, look at moi! Doctor! look at moi!”
    Jack!

  3. I read on the Outpost Gallifrey website that it was said in jest:

“Russell T Davies commented that Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, had turned down a cameo appearance in the series, with Davies jokingly calling him a “swine” for having done so.”

I can imagine RTD saying it this way more than I can in an arrogant way.

  4. miserable swine is a bit harsh, makes russell sound like he’s very self important, there are other things in the world than his show. although no one really likes charles so he probably won’t cop too much flack for the comment.
