Rob Guest ‘critical’ after massive stroke

Performer Rob Guest, 57, is in a critical condition after suffering a massive stroke.

Currently appearing in the Melbourne season of the musical Wicked, Guest was admitted to St. Vincent’s Hospital late last night.

The family of the British-born entertainer were travelling from New Zealand and other parts of Australia to be by his side. The cast were devastated after learning the news before they were due to perform a matinee this afternoon.

Guest, who performed as the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera for seven years and Les Misérables also hosted Channel 7’s Man O Man in 1994 plus various appearances on variety shows and telethons.

“The family … have given me permission to say that he is critically ill,” entertainment reporter Peter Ford told 3AW. “However, I also have been told that the outlook is very, very grim, so it’s very sad.”

He recently appeared on The W Channel’s An Audience with the Cast of Wicked.

A very talented man who always comes across as both likeable and enthusiastic in interviews.

I had the pleasure of seeing him in Phantom and thought he was wonderful in the role. Great voice, presence, style.

    A tragic event.
