Go Matt White, killing the opposition in the ratings. Oh, and thank you for talking normally and not dribbling on and on making little sense and sensationalizing everything.
…maybe they’re scared of starting out he ratings now on HD because not many people get HD yet…in which case…shows may not rate too well on HD…(oooh! ), which is why alot of show that dont rate well on SD…probably get shoved to HD anyway.
Jase72`
…. I never said that there was anything wrong..but I said they should act again…thats all I said. they need to act again for the next generation I think…
…..and…(I said that I may of been venting on the bad Supernatural rating as well)…
but theres no ratings yet for HD, and I think that is wrong.,
-and who said ratings for people who download? …I don’t agree with that that all.
So neighbours AND friends got less than 0.065m on tuesday night?
“I believe that they will be rating HD from next year and DVR recordings in 2-3 years?”
You would think ch7 with TiVO would be racing to have those recordings rated, unless they are worried more people are recording other channels?
Ch9 will flog 2.5 Men to death before it’s pulled from some of the time slots, it’s getting worse than the Simpsons, at least that’s on only 6 times a week LOL
Ch9 must be running out of 2.5 men soon, considering it is on 10 times a week!! or will they just repeat repeats?! lol
LOL @ chopping block, could have predicted that
i sense more 2.5 men, would ch9 do 2.5 hours of it?
none of us ever imagined 10 eps/week would ever happen whats to say this wont.
2-3 years? What’s taking them so long? HD was introduced ages ago, as were DVR’s.
the chopping block was a mistake. week one and it gets 879
i agree with jerome probably the reason there is a sudden spike in FMF and that an RSPCA repeat got 1.6
and i watched FMF for the first time last night aswell and thought it was decent television. The people that crossed over may be fans soon and watch it until forever. it may now be a 1.8 show
bad move for ch9’s future this show may be around for a million years now
@Barrett. You want to rate people downloading shows illegally? Please tell me you are not serious about that.
Umm…where did I say illegal downloads.A lot of shows can be downloaded from a channels website directly after it has aired.
You don’t have to sit in front of a TV to watch Heroes etc
They’re already recording DVR ratings in the US, which contributed to a 25% increase of Grey’s Anatomy’s new season’s premiere ep. Its a system that should be put in place here too
@Barrett. You want to rate people downloading shows illegally? Please tell me you are not serious about that.
I believe that they will be rating HD from next year and DVR recordings in 2-3 years?
Yes, the NCIS credits weren’t shown last night. It was a deliberate tactic by Ten to get people to follow on with Rush.
The current system is very flawed as it does not take into account viewers watching on HD,DVR,downloads etc
Peoples habits of viewing today is far different to say even 5 years ago where you actually had to watch the program at air time or use a VHS recorder ….now you can record multiple programs at the same time, download from itunes etc,DVD / Blu-Ray boxsets, piracy, watch and record on your PC etc
I think the “magic million ” mark is a bit too high, maybe 800K is a more realistic figure for judging success.
PTTR pulls another good audience and find my family wow
FMF has a good increase might even beat pttr in a few weeks, i watched it last night, obviously not the only one. it wasn’t half bad. “the chopping block” seems to have pushed people away from 9 to 7
it gets really emotional in parts and there is soo much drama. I think this is the first show i have ever thought could be well off if it was extended to an hour, it just feels like they are cramming so much in.
I’m not really sure that u could call it a factual though its more just a feel good show in the same category as domestic blitz
i’d say pttr, fmf, city homicide, SYTYCdance and maybe underbelly (if u give it sympathy for banning/downloading) will probably be the top 5 show of the year (in viewer #’s not quality)
what is wrong with the current system? because shows that you watch are not rating?
PTTR and underbelly are the success stories this year and isn’t it great that they are both Australian!
I absolutely agree Katrina – I think something is seriously wrong with the current system…
As expected, The Chopping Block fails in new slot, losing it’s younger viewers to The Simpsons and Kenny which have built back up to reasonable figures. nother killer Tuesday for 7, RSPCA repeats doing massive numbers and Find My Family still going strong.
Packed to the Rafters still has a very stable massive audience – would have to be the most successful show this year. Rush did quite well out of string lead in from NCIS, If it can keep up with those numbers ten would be crazy not to renew it.
Great to see Rush improving!!! best ep to date!!!!!
I think in all honesty…they need to act again…and get volunteers for Nielsen households again., maybe start them for HD TV to, ( as well as SD )….and get the new generation into it..but maybe thats just me venting on the low Supernatural rating?…haha!……….I dont know..
But I do think they need to get started on HD, if HD is going to be around. I’m hoping it wont come to everything being held on HD seeing as though I cant recieve it….but we still need to act on it.
Weird how 2.5 Men re-run got more viewers than the new ep they promoted, just proves there is nothing on in the 7pm time slot!
NCIS was it just me or didn’t they show any credits before cutting to Rush?
Chopping block is in trouble already.
Rush at 927k is not really a million Rutzie – it’s doing well in Brisbne but poorly in Sydney & Adelaide
Bye bye The Chopping Block. Battlefronts pulled around the same amount of viewers and got the axe. Interesting to note a repeat episode of RSPCA Animal Rescue pulled 1.6million viewers. Good too see Rush fight back to around the million mark.
Is it true that Ten HD currently do not monitor their ratings? It would explain why shows like Supernatural are down if it is true.
Why did GNW stayed on TEN?
They should go back to the ABC instead….
K&K was ok. It’s not great but I personally dont think the original is either. I’ll watch next week and form an opinion as the weeks go on. When is TEN gunna take a gamble on a 7pm Office?
The only part i find very amusing about GNW is paul’s lines at the end of the puzzle being solved, and the opening and closing jokes. Other than that, the lines from contestants sound too scripted or rehearsed for my liking of an impromptu game show. I watched most of the first half of the year eps but not the newer ones.
I watched the first ep of GNW and didn’t find it funny. Didn’t see what all the hype was about, I’d take Rove over it anyday. Not surprised its ailing in the ratings, that would probably have something to do with Idol’s truly crappy results. 700k? Thats a 500k drop off from the 1.2 mill it pulled on Sunday. That should be sending a message to Ten right about now.
I have to agree with Leeds and disagree with M – GNW is a fantastic show and makes me laugh so much each wk. Im glad Ch 10 brought it back this yr and have been loyal to it – sticking with it even if it hasnt pulled massive numbers. A good alternative to the 2 crime shows on 7 and 9 (tho they r both gr8 shows too!!)
My god people! Kath and Kim just aired one episode.
How can you say it will bomb and suck after just one episode. If we were all this quick to judge then Seinfeld’s pilot episode was crap as. If we had canceled it right after the first episode then we wouldn’t have a great show around now.
If we also canceled Will and Grace, Friends, Fraiser, Everybody Loves Raymond after just one episode then these shows would have never exsister.
Geez!! Give the show a chance. At least let it have 4 or 5 episodes to make even a small opinion.
City Homicide held up very well, still winning its timeslot against 9’s strongest show. CSI did well, but Cold Case was a flop at 9.30, with poor retention and losing all of that younger demo lead in to Bones and Supernatural. I actually thought the shares for the night would have been much closer, but 7 still dominate with a 4% lead, likely to be reinforced with yet another thumping Tuesday win.
Good News Week is a pathetic show. I’m sorry, but i can’t stand one bit of it. It’s just not that funny. The ratings reflect the general concensus. I would even prefer 90210 over this….didn’t fare too much worse in the ratings than GNW anyway.
I agree Craig. The Supernatural episode screened last night was a wonderful insight for the Supernatural story arc and was skillfully acted… it certainly deserved greater ratings IMO, especially when it is growing in ratings each week in the US.
I noticed last night it started 10 minutes late which may be an influence.
i don’t think ch9 should have put csi on Monday yes sure it made an impact on city homicide. But thats almost finished. Why kill something that is almost naturally out of ur way.
The reason i ask is that some of CSI’s non loyal audience is still watching homicide. If ch9 had it on one of their low rating nights ie. 8:30 wed/thurs it would perfom to its full potential which is what ch9 needs desperately.
CSI, i’m sure would beat crim minds or amazing race and fringe/strip are probably destined for 9:30 anyway.
don’t get me wrong i think 1.3 is good it just could have been better. i hate to see good shows not reach their potential just because a network is using it as a weapon
GNW was hilarious last night, deserves 1mill.
What the hell was on MediaWatch?
Woah.
I don’t think Idol’s ratings are because of the quality of the show etc like you all keep going on about, I think alot to do with it is the new emphasis on re-voting is frustrating for alot of people due to the Daylight Savings Time. That’s just my theory. Its just so frustrating to watch so many people become like internet vultures and pick at shows until they fail. Idol’s a fantastic show- yes it makes mistakes, but so does every other show – it doesn’t mean the show deserves to be cancelled. Although I admit its gotta be one of the worst ratings for a Results show – - – but every year the middle of the season drops a bit.
Alex 9 won in 25-54 as well by 2.2%. CSI also was #1 in every demo under 55.
JM I agree it was a thrilling episode with the team hunting down the killer of Warrick. The scene at the beginning when Warrick died in Grissoms arms was extremely sad. Also agree that CSI shows work best when paired together.
Any ratings available for ABC2 *cough*Good Game/Death Note*end cough*???
I wonder how low idol’s ratings need to get until the ———- at channel ten actually change something… like benno said- cut it in half
Channel Nine won the night in 16-39’s, 18-39’s and came equal in 25-54’s. 7 only won in 0ver 55’s and that won them the night.
CSI did very well – it usually does better but against much lower competition. I wasn’t expecting such high ratings.
Definitely took a bite into 7.
Channel Ten, terrible result! I wonder if they are going to change the format of this results show mid season or they will continue to be happy coming 4th on the night for the rest of the year. They either need to change it back to how it was or reduce it to half and hour. As I said before, I’m watching the first and last couple of minutes of the show, the rest of it is just pointless, plus the singers sing the songs that got them their in the first place, just makes no sense to me. The way American Idol is produced is far superior, even things like the way the stage is set out. The poor guys are forced to sing directly to the judges instead of the audience. Here’s a good tip for you guys at Idol, watch the American one and just copy it, plain and simple! or even better give the whole format a rest for a couple of years.
I dont think Nine would be disappointed with those figures for CSI at all. last week they were beaten by 8-9 points….. this week it was by 4.
It was an excellent episode and one of the best i have seen…. was in tears the whole way through.
Cold Case did let the team down tho. I always thought the combination of CSI and CSI Miami or CSI NY was better…. and Cold Case & Without A Trace go hand in hand. Maybe they need to do a shuffle.
City Homicide was always going to win the timeslot tho… 9 out of 10 times Aussie Drama will beat US Drama
Channel 10 tanks, 13th October 2008.. the way Channel 10 do thier pathetic line-up’s.. by this time next year SBS will be overtaking them!
Seriously TEN… WAKE UP
So GNW isn’t doing much better than 90210, as for Supernatural I don’t know what to think, last nights was a great ep.
I think 9 would be pleased with the numbers for CSI.
Looks like Top Gear Au has settled at around 700k, I thought last nights was the best so far.
I think maybe its because schools just come back as well/school/uni/TAFE, and work.
……maybe next week when ppl have settled down again? Heres hoping.
Also City Homicide dropped closer to 300k viewers.
1.35m is about right for CSI it usually gets around that maybe more depending on the competition.
And as expected with decent competition City Homicide drops to more acceptable numbers getting about the same as Sea Patrol.
Shame about GNW it deserves better.
Ouch with idol’s ratings. How do I say this right…..Cut the results show by half!
It wasn’t a good week for ten it looks like…even with the bad supernatural rating.
CSI did what I thought it would to City Homicide. Taking about 200,000 viewers away from it. Given Nine fasttracked this series of CSI I think they might have been disappointed with those numbers. Did they hurt their own show more than the opposition because CSI usually pulls around 1.5-1.6million viewers, plus Seven still won the night convincingly. Cold Case failed to deliver. Wonder how long it will last in that timeslot.
how did supernatural rate david? surely it didn’t get less than 200 000, bones went down this week, does this mean supernatural grabbed some of it’s audience?
Where’s the ratings for Supernatural?
Missed K&K (not a big fan of the original, actually). However, I remember most people hated the US version of The Office at first, including me, because the original UK version was still vivid in our minds. It’s natural to compare the two but that doesn’t mean it can’t succeed in the long run once it gets over the tricky transitional period. As for different styles…it sounds like the US version is softer, less scathing, at least compared with early K& K, but that’s probably a fair representation of our different cultures and humour.
dutchie- californication has never been a 1 hour show, it was always closer to a half hour but being a showtime one was slightly longer, left little room for ads, so ten just extend it by just putting the ads in, there are like 25-27 mins of actual show and so that means around 10 mins of ads put in.
These figures are all 5 City Metro – why are regional figures not included?
Wouldn’t it help the commercials to include the whole figure because they can boast about haw many more watch the show – for example in actual fact 60 Minutes rated 2 million TOTAL Australians last night approximately not 1.35.
‘Californication’ went for 37 minutes last night… What the hell…. They must of cut out about a third of the show…
Thanks god we now have the options of buying TV series now…
What a joke.
everyone seems to be bagging out ‘Californication’ figures but its actually on par with most of the other 10:30pm shows – Dexter, Out of the Question, Boston Legal, Survivor, Diary of a Call Girl. They all average 500 000 – 600 000 and its very MA so that cuts out a chunk of the audience and its a Sunday (not the best night to stay up late on).
BTW, ‘Californication’ got 43.2% of the 16-39 share.
The American Kath & Kim compares poorly to the original. Then again, it compares poorly to any comedy that is, I don’t know, funny or something. Earl is funnier by a mile.
Will K&K US improve overtime? Possibly, but I don’t care.
Well said Tepee. I find stuff like 2.5 men to be mildly watchable at best, yet certainly not hilarious. The most to find in an episode is only 1 or 2 laughs. Then again, I just have a different sense of humour than the 1.4 mill who seem to love watching it ten times a week, unlike The Office which I think is great yet never gets any ratings love.
K AND K US was ok,better than what has been writen in press
See how next week goes with original us scripts starting
Rove was better this week out on the streets of Melbourne
Pity idol did not pull bigger numbers,Rock night turned out good for all remaining players
I agree with the people who didn’t mind the American Kath & Kim.
Some people are making it out to be the worst show ever, but it really wasn’t that bad. It wasn’t really that good either, and I think Selma Blair was ultimately wrong for the role of Kim, but Sunday’s episode resulted in a few laughs from me.
It’s not really relevant to compare it to the original K&K – obviously this remake will have American references, odd and embarassing middle-class American traits, and so forth. And I agree with Matt in saying that this version of K&K is probably going to focus on Kim’s stupidity rather than personality/weight.
And to say that it wasn’t funny at all is not relevant either – people have different senses of humour. Eg. Some Aussies don’t even find the original Kath & Kim remotely funny (which as a devoted K&K I don’t understand [but accept]! lol) which all depends on one’s sense of humour, er, yumour.
I guess the American K&K has a long way to go. Let’s see if next week’s ep improves or decreases (in quality and ratings)…
The Mentalist was disappointing last night. A cheap ending thrown out of nowhere, there was absolutely no valid reason for the fat guy and his wife to be the murderers, yet all of a sudden they’re psychopaths and Jane says the reason is because “the fat man likes butter. That makes him greedy. He’s the murderer”. The show gave lots of red herrings with the Hector guy, the sheriff, the dude with the “sorry” note and any of these would have been somewhat logical, but instead they went with the dumbest option possible. It was a lot more like a regular CBS procedural and it lacked the cynicism and bitterness that the pilot showed, Patrick Jane was a lot more like an average detective than a person with heightened observational skills like he was in the pilot. Hopefully the next week the quality picks back up.
And Californication is bombing. Ten should have played out season 2 of Dexter instead, it looks like a lot of Californication’s audience tuned out. Not surprised about Battlefronts ailing, there’s 10,000 gardening shows as it is and its no wonder people are starting to get sick of them. Ten will be glad Rove broke the million mark for the first time in a while.
Unlike most people, I did not directly compare Kath & Kim with our version, and just treated it as an adaption with clear American values and features. It is basically your normal U.S. comedy except it has traces of aussie Kath & Kim in it such as some parts of the script, the fashion and the settings.
Although I found the U.S. version to be quite flat, I will keep watching for the time being to see if it gets better. Some people don’t know that Seinfeld was critised and nearly got axed before eventually becoming “the greatest TV program of all time”. Not that I am suggesting U.S. Kath & Kim is going to follow suit.
Hated K & K, worst show i think i’ve ever seen, hope it gets axed. Loved the Mentalist, favourite show atm. Hope Battlefronts picks up next week.
Francis:
Kath and Kim wasn’t funny. No comparisons needed to the Aus version. It just wasn’t funny.
DWTS is dead. If Seven thinks they can win Sundays in 2009 on the back of DWTS they’re wrong. But DWTS isn’t a bad program. The quality of the dancing this year is top notch.
Why does everything have to be americanised why not just show the original?
US Kath and Kim wasn’t nearly as bad as it was made out to be.
I think, at times, the US writers completely missed the point of the script they were adapting. But I can see, especially with Kim, how they’re trying to take the characters in a different direction from the Australian equivalent. Where Australian Kim’s laughs come from her unpleasant personality and misguided body image, US Kim’s laughs are probably going to come more from her stupidity.
Even if they don’t, the fact still remains, there were some genuine laughs in that first episode. The real test is going to be episode two, however, both in terms of quality and ratings. I’m led to believe episode two is completely original, so it’ll be interesting to see where they take the characters from here.
I recorded Kath & Kim as I for better stuff to watch on SBS, next week will be telling if the message boards are any guide.
Out of interest does anyone know where that “street somewhere” was on Rove last night?
Kath & Kim was some of the worst tv I’ve ever seen & will drop like a stone next week and be boned soon after. Just dreadful.
Battlefronts was afftected by the special on 7 and people checking out K&K and should pick up next week. Great to see The Mentalist still doing well last nights was a pretty good ep.
And stacie these days everything beats DWTS it’s history. To top it off Idol would have annihilated it in the younger demos.
Kath & Kim wasn’t that bad… I’m surprised at the vitriol that people have against it really – considering the Oz version wasn’t an instant hit and it took its time to find its writing groove – I’m sure this will come along nicely.
Channel Seven didn’t do it any favours by solely using scenes out of the Oz version for its promos… what’s the point in that?
That said – Slema Blair is just wrong as Kim.
“Hmmm, Sunday night seems to becoming a pretty low rating night” – if you add up 7,9,10 and abc, you get around 4.8 million for around 7.30-8.30, or a huge 40% of people in capital cities watching network tv. It may not seem high for one of them, but it is fairly evenly distributed.
Wow! Go Kath and Kim.
I for one loved it to death. It was the best show ever. I loved loved loved it. Fantastic casting, acting and storyline. I thought it was great.
To all those people who hated it i have one thing to say to you.
Stop comparing it to the Australian show. Treat it as a brand new show. It’s only got characters from the Australian show. That’s all. Maybe a few borrowed storylines but that’s it. It’s a brand new show.
YES!! idol beat dancing with the stars!! im so sick of dancing with the stars…its just starting to get lame.
It will be interesting to see how many people are still watching the US “Kath and Kim” next Sunday. It was pretty awful.
“The Mentalist” is fun, although a bit predictable.
well kath and kim rated well, but i think the drop off for next week will be HUGE based on the channel 7 message board comments, they have been universally negative, not one person liked it. they all say they switched off early on in the episode and will not watch again. i myself didn’t even give it a go so i can’t say whether or not it is good, but these people definitely didn’t like it.
Kath & Kim American Series did better than I thought it would. It will be interesting to see if it holds that number or drops well below the million mark next week. Battlefronts isn’t working for Nine and they have to seriously think about axeing it.
Hmmm, Sunday night seems to becoming a pretty low rating night, at least one show should be pulling higher numbers, Idol and DWTS seem to be pulling similar figures each week but 60 minutes in falling and with a couple of hundred thousand veiwers being lost at the ABC due to no Doctor who, where have the people gone. Heaven forbid if people are finding something to do other than watching TV, the end of the world is nigh!
Think it was pretty desperate of Rove to plug his show during Idol, as a direct crossover, looks like it worked though as he retained majority of the viewers. I wasn’t one that fell for it though, I changed the channel quick, I was a little tempted when Hammish and Andy were going to be on but Nah listening to Rove just wasn’t worth it.
Good ratings for Kath and Kim, I did watch it and got a few laughs, will tune in again next week to see if it gets any better.
