Andre Rieu for Ramsay Street

Well they said they wanted a bit more diversity.

Dutchman Andre Rieu will film a guest appearance on Neighbours.

A keen Ramsay Street fan, Rieu has accepted an invitation to appear on the TEN series by executive producer Susan Bower. The waltz king has even featured the theme in an ‘Australiana segment’ during his Australian concerts.

“In Europe we’ve loved to watch it,” he said.

“It’s helped us fall in love with what we would consider to be an Australian way of life - laid back, happy and warm-hearted.”

Rieu’s Melbourne concert on Saturday night was only second in popularity on pay-per-view Foxtel channel Main Event to the May 2006 Anthony Mundine-Danny Green boxing match.

Rieu isn’t the only international celeb to have featured in a Neighbours cameo. Last year the boys from Little Britain appeared in a scene. Others have included Emma Bunton, Michael Parkinson, Julian Clary, Sinitta, Clive James, Derek Nimmo, Shane Warne and Pet Shop Boys’ Chris Lowe.

The nadir of music talent meets the nadir of drama quality. Perfect symmetry.

I can’t wait! I must see what Andre Rieu will be doing on Ramsay Street. I also imagine the ratings will go through the roof.
Andre has a good sense of humor and keen timing. He will fit right in.
And, the DVD release of the series will see it being bought all around the world.
I am in California, and I already know I will have it. :D

Don’t forget Dr Karl’s guest appearance, too. Not quite on the same level as Parky, though.

We got some complimentary tickets to Andre Rieu and can’t wait to go see him, for the lulz.

    Not heard of him, wamdue?
Haven’t you seen the burgeoning Andre Rieu *section* that’s sprouted in every single department/entertainment store?

I’m always astounded at how happy Rieu fans are to spend whatever is asked of them. It’s scarily close to being a religion in that regard. Or probably more accurately, a cult.

However, Sally, you might be waiting a long, long time, as Neighbours is not released on DVD. It’s simple fluff, produced with eyeball-and-forget viewing in mind, and has about as much chance of season releases on DVD as Days Of Our Lives does.

I hate that guy, he loves himself. Will be missing this episode.

Got something to say?
