Andre Rieu on Today

Get out the violins. Andre Rieu gives a free performance to be screened on the Today show on Tuesday.

Waltz king (these days his unofficial title) Andre Rieu is about to bombard us with his lavish concerts and send seniors, and possibly a few others, into a spin. The darling of the Ovation Channel, there have been some complaints about prices being asked to meet the violinist at a ticketed After Party.

His Aussie tour begins in Melbourne on Thursday and ends in Brisbane in December.

The Today show will telecast part of a free concert at Melbourne’s Federation Square on Tuesday morning.

Richard Wilkins will interview Rieu at 7.20am and Steve Jacobs will also be in attendance.

Press Release:

Melburnians are in for a treat when TODAY exclusively presents one of the biggest acts in the world, Andre Rieu, at a free concert in Federation Square next Tuesday morning, November 11.

Richard Wilkins, the Nine Network Entertainment Editor, will broadcast live from Melbourne and interview Rieu at 7.20am before the master of the classics takes to the stage for three unique and vivacious performances.

Thousands of fans are expected to flock to Federation Square to celebrate the man dubbed the “Modern King of Waltz” who attracted a crowd of 8000 people to Telstra Dome last year when word spread of a free performance.

TODAY weather presenter Steve Jacobs will be among the fans at Fed Square to capture all the excitement and anticipation as it happens, live to air.

Rieu arrives in Australia this weekend ahead of his World Stadium Tour: A Romantic Vienna Night which has been touted as one of the biggest and most talked about concerts in the world.

TODAY, hosted by Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson, along with Cameron Williams, Georgie Gardner, Richard Wilkins, and Steve Jacobs, will proudly claim 2008 as Melbourne’s number one breakfast program.

  1. If any one is thinking about spending $1,500.00 for a day with Andre Rieu, don’t waste your money.
I bought tickets for my parents to give them chance of a lifetime. What a waste of Money. They were treated like school children, bullied by security staff and they were not even allowed to even say hello or talk to Andre.

Their seats were supposed to be premium, They were plastic outdoor seats. The food was unedible and the after show party they served frozen sausage rolls, chicken wings that sat there half the night and frozen quiches.

The man would not even say Hello to any one. Please don’t waste your money for any premium seating. The whole thing is a shame. No man is not worth that much money.

  2. I would just like Andre Rieu to know that he made my mothers life when she saw him perform in Melb on Nov 12th 2008. Mum and myself actually met Mr Rieu at Tullamarine Airport when we were on our way back home to Bne and Mr Rieu was organising the Bne concert..
I am pretty sure I made a “d**k” of myself toward Mr Rieu, but,it was in the name of love for my mum.
We asked him for autographs and a photo with my mum and he willingly obliged.

My mum just passed away on Feb 1st 2009, knowing that Andre would be the last “heartbreaker” she would ever see. She absolutely adored him and his music, not just his music, but his love of music as my mums love of music.
My Mum appreciated my persistence with Andre, re: autographs & photos, even though he was probably thinking “I wish this crazy chick would get off my back”!
I only did for my Mum. She always thanked me for what I did right up til the end.
My advice to celebrities is: even tho people hassle and dont leave you alone, just remember, you choose your career path, and if you choose the celebrity path, just remember that there are people out there that love you and you have to accept the praise that these people offer, especially the ones that are genuine, that you will never know.
I wish Andre Rieu will realise these people who genuinely love him and his music.
    Warm regards

  3. David re: ‘and send seniors, and possibly a few others’…

I love watching this guy, and I am certainly not a senior…

Out of interest… How much would have channel 7 paid him, and the team, for appearing this evening in DWTS…

    Cheers,

    K
