Residents evict Biggest Loser

Residents near "the white house" have stopped FremantleMedia from disrupting their neighbourhood and thrown the show into a spin.

Local residents in Duffy’s Forest, in northern Sydney have managed to ensure The Biggest Loser will not be filmed at its “White House” residency for the fourth season -throwing the show into turmoil.

More than 100 submissions made by residents to Warringah Council included complaints about noise, loss of privacy, odours, lightspill, signage, parking and traffic by the applicant, FremantleMedia.

Council had approved the show’s next three seasons being filmed at the White House, a monstrous 1.56ha property nestled next to the Ku-Ring-Gai National Park. But the go-ahead was rejected earlier this month by an independent panel on the basis that filming of The Biggest Loser was not “low intensity, low impact business use”.

“The members of the panel did not accept that the issues relating to noise and traffic had been satisfied by the applicant,” a spokesman told news.com.au.

One submission by town planning and development firm Symons Goodyer on behalf of residents listed as grounds for objection.

“In particular, my clients have experienced odours within the past 12 months from sewage that escapes from the on-site sewerage system,” firm principal Geoff Goodyer said.

The Biggest Loser is now proposed to run continuously on this site for six years. It is no longer a temporary use. The impacts are not short term and, in the context of a non-urban locality, the impacts are unreasonable.”

A spokesperson from FremantleMedia told TV Tonight: “Yes, The Biggest Loser will have an exciting new home in 2009. It’s unfortunate we don’t have access to the White House but Loser is all about the people not the place. We have a couple of great options we are looking at and the new location will be an exciting new twist to the series in 2009.”

  1. As long as TBL is on that is all I care about they could have the TBL house on the moon for all I care I just want to watch the contestants not the house

As for the neighbors I could understand it if it was a small block of land but it is huge so how can it affect 100 people that much it is probably there shit that stinks

  2. ryan – get over it will you. It’s not going to make a huge difference to the show and the neighbours have every right to complain. I wouldn’t want all that going on near my place either.

  3. stuck up residents!! we all know how big the loser house is! its massive! and they do most their training inside, there people are just trying to improve their lives!!!! lets throw shit at their houses!!

  4. @Josh- They may film ‘everything’ at that house, but let’s not forget its a bloody big house and even bigger yard. It’s not like they neighbours of the BL house have to actually see much of what’s actually going on…it’s not your average street.

The BL producers are paying big $ to the home’s owners, and it shouldn’t really have anything to do with the snotty nosed neighbours.

  5. One of the neighbours from the Rafters house was on The Morning Show or whatever they call the thing on at 9am on 7. Anyway, she was to say the least over the moon that her street was famous. Let’s see how she feels in 3 years maybe..if that show is still around.

  6. Richard H, People in the rafters street wouldnt have to put up with much, as only the outside scences are shot at that exact location, The rest of the scenes are shot within seven studioos im guessing at epping?

But they are definatley not shot aall at the house.

Totally different from Loser as everyhting inside and out is shot at the house

  7. It’s just rich people whinging..

They even go as far as to make up about the smell of the sewerage? clutching at straws but they got what they wanted in the end.

  8. I don’t know what they’re complaining about, Take a look at Google Maps (exhibit “A”). There is plenty of space between the BL house and neighbouring houses, and bush all around the perimeter to stop noise and light. Not to mention the ample parking out the back. Bunch of snobs if you ask me.

  9. I lived in the town where they filmed the outdoor bits of A Country Practice (yes I know it was many years ago) – I was right near the building they used for exterior of the hospital – and that was annoying enough so I don’t blame these people for not wanting the filming to take place near where they live. The most annoying thing is that TV people assume everyone cares about TV. Whenever things annoyed us we were told “but it’s for TV”.

“So what if bright lights shine in your windows at 2:00am…it’s for TV”.

“Oh you don’t want a continuous stream of cars and pedestrians going past your house, blocking your driveway, taking photographs, stomping your garden…but it’s for TV”.

I can only imagine it’s worse these days and doubly bad with a reality TV show.

the production company can’t control everything – especially sticky-beaks who want to see what’s going on – and it’s people like that who are the most annoying of all because they don’t give a damn who’s gardens they trample, who’s privacy/private property they invade, who’s yards they leave their rubbish in as long as they get to see what they want to see.

  10. um it seems a bit of a joke the residents are complaining i doubt that on 1.56 ha of land you’d get much noise going to the neighbors and if there is it’s usually in business working hours so unless they don’t work in the snobs vile then it shouldn’t worry them.

oh and fix the pipes so they don’t stink right. very strange

  11. what a bunch of losers! get over it! how can they say the smell is coming from the house?? maybe its their s**t that stinks? some people seriously need to grow up!
