TEN dumps 90210. Again.

By David Knox on November 25, 2008 / Filed Under Programming 89

Everybody try not to look surprised.

Summer on TEN just changed again and guess what’s gone?

TV Tonight‘s tip (this morning) that 90210 wouldn’t secure its 7:30pm Sunday slot has proven fortuitous.

TEN has adjusted this Sunday November 30th as follows:
Updated

6:30pm Thank God You’re Here (season final)
7:40pm Don’t Forget The Lyrics
8:40pm Sunday Night Movie – School Of Rock
10:50pm Californication
11:25pm The Office
11:55pm Sunday Late Night Movie – Planes Trains & Automobiles

That also pushes out America’s Next Top Model, but it is set to start a week later at 6:30pm Sunday Dec 7 followed by more Don’t Forget The Lyrics. That leaves Wayne Brady’s game show set to air twice weekly.

Last night 90210 had a lousy 408,000* viewers (last in its timeslot) effectively leaving TEN no choice but to drop it from 7:30 Sundays -arguably the most profile slot of the week.

Many will argue that TEN has nobody but itself to blame here, dropping the show into last night’s schedule with limited advance promotion time, and pulling it the first time around leaving it ripe for downloads by fans who were keen to stick with it.

As of now the show no longer has a timeslot on TEN. Whether it moves to TEN HD at some point (or NEXT summer?) remains to be seen.

    What is with ten?

It is so unrelaible! Axed not axed and so on……… Look at all the other crap shows that are not axed!!! I can’t believe it. I really hope another network picks it up and promotes accordingly and puts ten to shame!

  2. melissa December 1, 2008 at 9:32 pm -

Shame on you Channel 10! im sorry but ive gaven up on yuu! im nevaa watching any new shows yuu put on again there crap anyway! Face it people’s all network ten does is put shows on and axe them 2 weeks later. whats the bloddy point?? i was getting into it! and so were other viewers. Your problem: you put the bloody show back on and it lasts for one night!! What the hell?? you dindn’t even air the commercials on that much thats why fans missed it!! Duuu!!
    these are your problems:
    1. commercials hardly aired thats why viewers missed it.
    2. you don’t give it a chance and you dog it the cumming day
    3. who the hell is running that network?

    I hate you Channel 10!

sorry but keep putting this up you’ll be losing viewers!!

  3. Jabez. December 1, 2008 at 8:39 pm -

Okay heres my problem, not just the fact that 90210 is off. Again which is a real dissapointment. Anyway, Simpsons has been replaced with beautiful and the bold or some s**t? I didnt see the title of the show becuase I literally fell asleep.
Whats the go? this is horse crap. Who cares if ratings arn’t high? as if a stupid singing game is going to have higher ratings then an on going drama series. There are probably low ratings because fans wern’t expecting it to come back on and I think the smart thing to do was to let it play for a few weeks and see if ratings shhout up from there, give people time to realise what shows are coming back on, its pointless to keep stopping and and strating a show especially starting shows with reallly really low warnings and advertising of the show returning. oh and I agreee witht the others, school of rock?!? Come on thats absolutely lame, your movies are become pathetic channel ten!

  4. Jane December 1, 2008 at 8:26 pm -

90210 is great I loved it when I when the first series was on and almost died when I missed an ep now its back and great then you take it off. When you took it off in september without notice i was shocked and pissed then friday week ago I see an add for Monday night just in time I would have missed it then it said it would be on sunday I sat there waiting while we had people over and nothing not even a message what are you playing at ten. get it right you would have had more viewers if you gave it the right promotion like all the other crappy shows you have.

  5. Viv December 1, 2008 at 7:50 pm -

90210 is the best! Its the best for teenagers, they should at least put it on 10 HD, even if it’s ratings aren’t that high! Channel 10 workers are maniacs for doing this, first taking the simpsons off and replacing it with bold and beautiful. All their doing is keeping the adults happy without even thinking about teenagers! No one even watches Don’t Forget the Lyrics anyway!

  6. demie December 1, 2008 at 5:58 pm -

what the hell!! 90210 is the best show so why do you keep cancelling it!
for those who dont like it…. Dont watch it!!! theres plenty of other shows on tely.. stop being anoying and wrekin it for the rest of us!! =(

  7. Carina November 30, 2008 at 9:32 pm -

Stupid ten i really was looking forward to america’s next top model grrrrr!!!

  8. amy November 30, 2008 at 9:11 pm -

gr 10 is jus making me madder and madder, first i find out bout the simpsons…not only being cancelled, but bold & the beautiful, and now i sit down ready for 90210…and find out that boring game show is on instead. Argh Damn Channel 10!

  9. robyn November 30, 2008 at 8:29 pm -

This is so annoying ready to watch 90210 and some other stupid piece of garbage on, Channel10 wake up!!!!!!!! You are losing watchers by the minute.

What in hell were they thinking moving Bold and the Beautiful to 6pm, who’s going to watch it at that time!!! Meal time.

  10. racheena. November 30, 2008 at 8:00 pm -

TEN is really starting to shit me. give 90210 a friggin chance!

remember when channel 9 aired the pilot of the OC? it disappeared into nowhere and ten picked it up and ran it all seasons from beginning to end. well… that could be 90210. maybe another network will pick it up and save it before TEN makes us hate it.

it’s bad enough that one tree hill is only played on HD. and even then most weeks it gets bumped off for NASCAR or NFL. booooooo….

And what the heck is up with Bold & Beautiful being aired 6:00 Weeknights????

  11. Renee November 30, 2008 at 7:14 pm -

School of Rock…..again??? WTF?? C’mon channel 10. Listen to the public, we want 90210 on. It’s a given. but when you take it off air and put it back on with little advertising of course your ratings will be down. give it a fair go!!!!!!!

    Annoyed!!! ….again!!

  12. Kristie November 30, 2008 at 6:07 pm -

How the hell can you expect people to watch a show when they don’t know when it’s on?????????? Arrrrrggghhhhhh!!!

  13. Emily November 30, 2008 at 11:20 am -

I hate you channel 10. I hate you!!

  14. Luke November 29, 2008 at 6:14 pm -

This was going to be the first Sunday in a long time where I was actually going to watch Network TEN from 6:30 to 10:30 instead of just joining them for the end of Australian Idol and the weekly ep of Rove/Movie.

Looking at that lineup, I’m not joining them at all. There’s only so many times that I can watch School of Rock. I don’t mind Mean Girls because it’s on later in the evening, and also because I actually don’t mind the movie, however SOR makes me cry it’s so bad/overplayed.

I was down on the GC for Schoolies and to my surprise there was heaps of people who didn’t go to the parties from 7:30 to 8:30 because they were in their rooms watching 90210, I’m serious. There are so many people out there who actually watch shows when they’re screened on TV in teensville instead of downloading them and they/me are the losers in all of this.

PS I reckon those numbers are wack. Their sample must be very narrow becasue 90210 should have got sooooooooooo many more viewers than that.

  15. Pranish November 29, 2008 at 3:30 pm -

This is so stupid , I’m so sick and tired that they are taking this show off again. I’ve seen the next episode and it’s one of the best episodes throughout the season. It was just sunday that I knew 90210 was going to be on again, so there wasn’t many promos going for this episode. I think they should put a hep of promos for this show and see what viewers think. It was just after one episode that they were not going to put it back on sunday. That why people don’t watch the Ten Network anymore not like before.

  16. Princess November 28, 2008 at 7:42 pm -

How can you drop a show from a slot, for not rating well, when the slot you are comparing it to is a different day. 90210 Was put on for the second time on a Monday night. If we all remember Idol final was on Sunday. Go Ten, really Seriously ???

  17. taylor November 28, 2008 at 6:33 pm -

WTF is happening to channel ten??
If 90210 is rating low put it on a different time slot where another show is getting even less ratings than 90210 is. Who ever is running channel 10 better pull his ass back into line or get the sack!

  18. avoidz November 28, 2008 at 12:54 pm -

    Australian free-to-air TV sucks. Seriously.

  19. Alexiness November 27, 2008 at 9:20 pm -

Surprise, surprise. Gladly, I’ve been watching this online since it got axed the first time anyway. TEN has lost me as a viewer. I won’t miss the movies repeated every month, the crappy reality shows and Simpson’s reruns.

  20. Sephiroth_FF November 27, 2008 at 5:05 pm -

No wonder it didn’t rate well. Not only did it have extremely limited promotion (I saw ONE ad) but fans would’ve download it ages ago (like when it was taken off right away).

From what I’ve seen, it’s not the best show and not the most interesting (and not my type really) but I’ll continue watching it if it comes back on. I don’t think I’d waste downloads on it though.

  21. Ev November 27, 2008 at 10:52 am -

    90210 gone again!!??

All this chopping and changing is nuts.

Also showing The Bold and the Beautiful at 6 pm on weeknights is a very bad idea.

  22. SHINTARO November 27, 2008 at 3:54 am -

Can we cut-out the TEN bashing a bit? How can the poor buggers win? They air something which pulls low numbers and they’re idiots, they take the offending show off air and they’re idiots, they experiment with their programming and they’re idiots…

    Give it a rest!

  23. Justin November 27, 2008 at 12:19 am -

Maybe 90210 should have been kept at 7:30pm Mondays instead of Friends/Rules re-runs now they’ve decided it won’t work on Sundays, to see if it can build an audience….

Sharpy, seen a promo tonight saying DFTL is on 7:40 Sunday, so its going ahead.

  24. David Knox November 26, 2008 at 10:58 pm -

Sharpy, I’m pretty satisfied with the email I got, plus the verbal confirmation from TEN that there are no plans to return it that it’s out. I even asked about TEN HD.

  25. ali November 26, 2008 at 10:51 pm -

90210 sucks. Mindless US teen drivel. Im glad its in the bin where it belongs.

  26. Sharpy November 26, 2008 at 8:31 pm -

David, are you sure about this move? Even tonight (wednesday) ten is still promo’ing 90210 for 7.30 Sunday night… *confused*

  27. Leo November 26, 2008 at 6:07 pm -

I love 90210 & watched it on Monday night, I can’t believe 10 have axed the show again- just leave it on in the non ratings period for it to find an audience over summer – Please!!!

  28. Bob November 26, 2008 at 3:38 pm -

um i thought summer was the time when axed shows were given a go, obviously they don’t really care for viewers. i mean it’s called non – ratings period for a reason isn’t it?

    .Bob.

  29. PT Ryan November 26, 2008 at 3:22 pm -

Well I’m glad Californication is back on the sked at least. There’s only like four or five eps left in the season anyway! Can’t believe they’re bothering with The Ex-List, given that it was canned in the states a few weeks ago. I have heard that the central mystery is resolved in the final episode at least.

  30. Sean M November 26, 2008 at 2:09 pm -

    I watched it.

I think it was well suited to a weekend timeslot. There is a younger audience watching at that time. You often see kids movies do well on sat/sun. I think they should have tried it on Sunday.

It is probably for the best that gossip girl is at 10.30. There is probably less pressure to get a big audience. If they had scheduled it at 8.30 there is more risk that it gets taken off.

  31. David Knox November 26, 2008 at 1:06 pm -

Californication back in schedule. Post updated.

  32. Harry November 26, 2008 at 12:56 pm -

It was expected after the ratings for that show came on.. I enjoy it but hey, seems the people who take up the ratings dont.

  33. Janey Girl November 26, 2008 at 12:12 pm -

I wanna what Ten are thinking putting Bold & the Beautiful on at 6pm weeknights. Ten has truly lost the plot!

  34. David Knox November 26, 2008 at 11:50 am -

Leon… I think they have Love Actually and About a Boy!!!

  35. Sarah November 26, 2008 at 11:35 am -

I’m pissed about Californication not being on the lineup. Does anybody know if they are going to finish the season?
I was giving 10 a go and not downloading this season because they show it so soon after it is aired in the US. Both trying to save quota and trying to support free to air television.
Not that they care what the viewers have to say but they can F**k off!

  36. Leon November 26, 2008 at 11:29 am -

Aww Man, School of Rock on Ch10 movie list.. again! do they have anything else?

  37. Glenn Petrie November 26, 2008 at 11:01 am -

Now you see it, now you don’t.

  38. Belinda November 26, 2008 at 10:20 am -

Most people I know had no idea it was even on.

  39. Kubz November 26, 2008 at 10:09 am -

I’m certain if 90210 was on any other channel it would not have been given a seond chance like TEN gave it, after the rating it achieved the first time it was on.

  40. Leon November 26, 2008 at 10:08 am -

    Ch10 should change thier slogan..

‘Seriously.. We have no idea were Doing… Seriously!’

  41. J Bar November 26, 2008 at 7:51 am -

Build a bridge. Get over it. The show is rubbish and Aussie viewers voted with their remotes.

  42. Luisa November 26, 2008 at 12:17 am -

What a joke! Is Channel 10 deliberately trying to alienate & confuse viewers before Summer has even started?? I watched 90210 last night by chance as I had no idea it was even on thanks to Channel 10′s lack of advertising & random programming. As soon as I saw that there was no preview for the next episode, I knew it wouldn’t be coming back.

It’s obvious that Channel 10 doesn’t want 90210 so they should give it up to a channel that actually has some respect for its viewers. Maybe then we’ll be able to get through one season without this ridiculous stop-starting that Channel 10 is subjecting us to.

I won’t be watching any other Channel 10 shows this Summer. Thank God for Foxtel!

  43. Zambora November 25, 2008 at 11:16 pm -

First reaction after I read your opening para was – laughing, yes laughing out loud.
One day after all free to air broadcasters here trumpet how they are so good to viewers, Ten does this.
I half watched 90210 last week as i was preparing tea – even thought about watching it nextweek.
    Surprised no – expected yes.
What show is next on sacrificial chopping block by networks ?

  44. Xavier November 25, 2008 at 11:05 pm -

being a teen, ten is my favourite network. but the moving and dumping of shows is having an effect! it used to have great shows like the oc, smallville, taken out, veronica mars, one tree hill and even big brother was good in the day. all these shows have been moved to ten hd or been axed by ten or axed in the us! We need a free to air network like the cw that will keep shows!

  45. Alaisdair November 25, 2008 at 10:57 pm -

and this is why i download ALL my tv shows and dont watch Australia free to air…

  46. Matt November 25, 2008 at 10:45 pm -

Come on, you can understand Ten’s decision here, the figures it has been getting have been embrasing, even when it was first on.

Of course they should just play it out late at night or something.

  47. Charlotte. November 25, 2008 at 10:18 pm -

Can I just say I really appreciate you always keeping us in the know about these ever-changing schedules, David. I would be so confused about when things are on if it weren’t for Tv Tonight!

Sucks that 90210 fans are getting screwed over again, but I can’t say I blame Ten for pulling it when ratings were that low. Though perhaps they just didn’t advertise its return enough. Looks like it’s set to be one of those shows where the DVDs get released before the show’s even had a decent run on free to air.

  48. Kuttsywood November 25, 2008 at 10:04 pm -

Ten- seriously broken. If it’s broken, Canwest oughta fix it.

  49. Paul November 25, 2008 at 9:30 pm -

The Daily Show Global Edition’s gone too then?

  50. R November 25, 2008 at 9:30 pm -

Apparently 90210 actually had 408,000 not 480,000. Even more laughable!

  51. Bogues November 25, 2008 at 9:13 pm -

Although I don’t have a peoplemeter box in my house, I didn’t watch 90210 last night because I didn’t know it was on. Thanks ten for stuffing round the schedule so much your viewers don’t know what’s on when.

  52. Neon Kitten November 25, 2008 at 9:12 pm -

David, Californication is still running in the US – episode 9 of 12 aired less than 24 hours ago there.

Looks like I made the right decision in downloading that from the start, as I predicted I would.

As for 90210, can’t stand it but feel bad for those that were looking forward to it. Ten should really bump these shows to later-night slots rather than just pulling them randomly.

  53. Ian November 25, 2008 at 9:03 pm -

Nooooo, really they changed it again! I’d never have guessed!

Seriously Ten, get you act together!

Hell, if you want help, ask the people that run and post at this forum, I know we’ve got better Ideas about what to show than what you are showing to the public!

  54. JenC November 25, 2008 at 9:01 pm -

Not happy Ten. I was actually looking forwards to their sunday line-up.

  55. Sharnra November 25, 2008 at 8:57 pm -

I wish 90210 gone forever and when is supernatural is back on ten? Please put supernatural back on and why channel 10 put it off????

  56. phillip Hollins November 25, 2008 at 8:54 pm -

channel ten. you are the worst of all channels.
    90210 is a great show.
it ma not have been at it’s best last night.
    but u didn’t give it a chance.
    no advertising.
ugh. i can’t stand free to air anymore.
    foxtel all the way

  57. Daniel G November 25, 2008 at 8:40 pm -

And The Daily Show (Global Edition) is gone too.
    Any word if/when it’ll return?

  58. Rose November 25, 2008 at 8:37 pm -

Are you for serious?? Does it really matter if it doesnt rate well? The rating period is finsihed, just show whatever on tv now, who cares. Theyre only disappointing fans. I know i wont be watching Ten again! Stupid people, almost as bad as Nine.

  59. John November 25, 2008 at 8:36 pm -

Tsk, tsk. They can’t do anything right.

This show is doing fine in the states and what? for some reason it fails here… that’s because of Ten.

  60. ryan November 25, 2008 at 8:18 pm -

good!! it was a waste of air time! if a show at 7.30 cant get over 500,000 than it should axed!!

  61. Tony November 25, 2008 at 8:07 pm -

I’ve been downloading this show each week… take that Ten

  62. Mark November 25, 2008 at 8:06 pm -

You’re right, it’s no surprise. No wonder downloads are flourishing.

  63. stevie g November 25, 2008 at 8:06 pm -

Crap…the summer season hasn’t started and we’re already left dissapointed.

  64. itsross November 25, 2008 at 8:01 pm -

And WTF happened to the Daily Show? I didn’t even get a chance to watch it.

  65. Craig November 25, 2008 at 7:52 pm -

Well this vindicates my choice to DL it, thanks for nothing 10!

They take it off with little notice, keep viewers waiting for it return only to put it in a time slot it had no chance of winning or getting decent ratings, these guys are worse than 9!

As for Califonication it’s running until the end of the year in the US, I guess we have to wait till Feb to see the rest, if they bother bring it back?

  66. brandon November 25, 2008 at 7:36 pm -

for fu*h sakes ten make up your mind i have been trying to enjoy this show but you keep taking off please just leave it on during non ratings.

  67. Rob November 25, 2008 at 7:26 pm -

Citizen Cane and Kubrik movies crop up on SBS and ABC but more importantly there’s an uproar that a 2008 version 90210 is not being watched by anyone other than mid thirty dags wanting to relive the 90′s. No wonder it rates last. Watch SKins instead or get on a Kontiki trip before it’s too late. And yeah, download it so Ten doesn’t have to show it. Cannot wait for OneHD

  68. bindi November 25, 2008 at 7:25 pm -

does this mean they have to re-edit their summer ads…ha ha, more work for them. also being new this was going to be the only show i watched on 10 during summer, now i’ll just be on 7 all summer with a touch of 9. especially since they won’t have much on 10HD either, only like 2 weeks left of torchwood and probably not long for eureka either, they seem to just be reducing their HD only shows and going back to simulcasting rather than putting on replacement shows, which increases my fears of not seeing season 8 of smallville before april when the opportunity will totally disappear.

  69. Alyx November 25, 2008 at 7:22 pm -

Another re-run of School of Rock? Sigh. Get some new movies.

  70. Rachael November 25, 2008 at 7:20 pm -

    School of Rock again?????????????

    Get some new movies already.

  71. Jordie=\ November 25, 2008 at 7:20 pm -

i hate ten so much right now
i cant believe they would do that, with all the other crap theyve got on this summer
it could of built a steady audience given a good chance and a singular timeslot
and if theyve gotten rid of californication too (im being blissfully ignorant assuming theyre giving it a week break to distance the closeness between american airdates), im giving up on ten

  72. Tepee November 25, 2008 at 7:09 pm -

Ugh, now I now why nobody watches Ten. I’d been waiting for this for weeks! Can’t they just put it on Saturday or something if it’s rating low?!

  73. bindi November 25, 2008 at 7:00 pm -

oh god, looks like i’ll just wait for the dvds on this one, i’m not into it enough to download and this stopping and starting is too annoying to stand any more.

  74. brad clarke November 25, 2008 at 6:54 pm -

What an absolute joke – who is running that network?

  75. nathan November 25, 2008 at 6:44 pm -

Another repeat movie that’s been played one billion times.

  76. Bass November 25, 2008 at 6:39 pm -

Typical contempt from 10 – what the hell is going on over there, perhaps Gordon Ramsay can expand into the ‘fixing’ Television stations and give programmers at 10 a decent spray – no wonder the arse has fallen out of the share price, hit a record low of 0.9650 this week!

  77. Benno November 25, 2008 at 6:38 pm -

That grave is getting pretty deep channel 10…..

  78. Dave November 25, 2008 at 6:28 pm -

Evan: It was never there to begin with. It was always going to end last Sunday.

  79. jay November 25, 2008 at 6:27 pm -

Stupid Ten! Thats what happens when u keep pulling off shows! Its download time!

  80. Evan November 25, 2008 at 6:20 pm -

Looks like Californication has gone too :-(

    Evan :->
