TEN moves Bold & Beautiful to primetime

Here’s a bold (but how beautiful?) programming move by TEN. The network has just announced some significant changes to its summer scheduling.

Afternoon US soap The Bold and The Beautiful is officially moving to primetime, winning a new 6pm timeslot from Monday December 1st. It will be replaced by Judge Judy at 4:30pm.

TEN has also bitten the bullet on its under-performing Will and Grace episodes, axed for the return of Friends at 7pm. It returns with S6E12 “The One With The Joke.”

The timeslot has been a crazy game of musical chairs recently, including Bondi Rescue, Taken Out, Friends, Will and Grace and back to Friends. Is it any wonder viewers have given up?

Dumping the sitcom at 7pm will also see a planned extra summer episode at 7:30pm Mondays replaced with another Friends.

TEN has also announced the premiere of already-axed The Ex-List for summer. The drama follows a woman (Elizabeth Reaser) who learns from a psychic that she has already been romantically involved with the man of her dreams. If she doesn’t reunite with him in a year, she’ll never marry her true love. Only 4 episodes aired in the US.

It premieres at 9:30pm Monday December 1st.

Replacing Judge Judy at 3:00pm weekdays will be repeats of Everybody Loves Raymond.

  1. Stupid Ten says:

Seriously Ten. Get some new programs. Your not going to continue to be no1 if you continue to use the same shows over and over again. Everyone is bored!

  2. Maev says:

OMG…..we are sooooooo over Friends….it is totally dated……and Big Cat Diary was on channel 2 long ago…….is channel 10 having financial problems…..can’t afford better programs …?!?!?

  3. Michael says:

TEN has lost the plot for summer
B & B needs to followed with a 6,30 news show when Neighbours finishes
    at least its new
As for friends again, good show but not 3rd time repeats
Come on Ten show some balls and put on the office or something new
What have u got to loose.

  4. Nick says:

Never thought I’d see the day where the bold and the beautiful was the launching 6 pm show (official start of Primtime?) in Tens prime time lineup. We got Seven, giving seven a huge boost, 9 news on 9 , had simpsons, and now this lol.

  5. Renee says:

Yes Now i wont miss Bold and the beautiful bout damn time they put it on when we will be home to watch it and yes Friends during the summer when home and away is off air thank you ten you have made my day i love this line up keep the good work up

  6. John says:

I see the B&B at 6 lasting a week tops.

  7. Ev says:

Channel 10 is always editing out scenes from The Bold and the Beautiful and it’s sooo annoying. The Brooke Logan rape storyline was practially non-existent.

I’m guessing a 6 pm timeslot means even more editing now since kids will be home from school, eating their dinner in front of the TV etc.

I remember it being on at 1 pm many years ago. Maybe that would be better?

  8. Vanessa says:

itsross on November 20th, 2008 12:57 pm. I don’t really agree with you. Most people who work are not going to be the type of people to watch Bold and the Beautiful. It’s also not the type of show you want on if you have young children around as there are many bedroom scenes, affairs, constant swapping of partners etc which may not be suitable.

My grandmother, my aunties and mother love the show (all over 60) and don’t work. So it’s perfect for them to sit down in the arvo when there is nothing on and watch it. At 6 pm people are busy with dinner and the family and they will not watch it. I have spoken to my mum and aunty and they are not happy with this move at all. I think it may possibly get a few new viewers who work during the day (i wouldn’t imagine many though), However, it will loose a lot of its regular viewers. This is one of the stupidest moves i have seen by Ch 10.

They should move Out of the Blue to 6pm, I watched it last night and its not bad, and it also a better match with neighbours.

  9. John says:

What crap – how can anyone like that show!

  10. ali says:

Im sure Bold did well at 4.30 because there was nothing else on….

  11. stevie g says:

The more I think about it, the more uncomfortable I am with this move. As people have said its viewership is comfortable wherE it is, same with the viewers of Judge Judy. Most adults are preparing dinner or watching news at 6.00. B&B and Neighbours are 2 very differnt soaps, I don’t think they will really go well together. I hope 10 change their minds before this takes affect. I loved The Nanny, put that on at 6.00 I say! Oh, that’s right Nine has got that now as well as Seinfeld.

  12. RichoTB says:

I agree its not a stellar lineup. They should leave B&B where it is and give first-run Office eps a shot and move Out of the Blue to Neighbours’ old slot when it finishes. I caught a couple of mins of OotB and its actually not too bad.

  13. nick says:

i sure if bold does crap at 6, they’ll put it back at 4.30. but i couldnt believe that it was getting 500 k at this time, very interested to see wat this will do to the news numbers, maybe people will draw away and ABC news at 7 will become the leader

  14. Matt says:

Without the Simpsons there is no reason to watch Ten.

6:00 The Bold & The Beautiful
    6:30 Neighbours
    7:00pm Friends

That has to be the worst line up of the year, possibly the decade.

  15. goffy says:

youve got to be kidding me

    worst decision ever

  16. itsross says:

@vanessa considering a lot of those same people who are cooking dinner at 6pm would have previously been at work at 4:30pm, it can only mean more viewers have the chance to watch it and dinner can wait til 7 lol

  17. Benno says:

I remember they showed the last 2 episodes from the 2006-2007 season then immediately showed the first 3 episodes of season 18 (january-may season 2008) then took it off completely. As of now, they are 18 episodes behind. Who knows how many they will be behind when they start showing new episodes.

  18. Jason says:

@ Simon – I think they showed exactly ONE episode of Law & Order’s 07-08 Season (17?), so in 09 they’ll have about 44 episodes up their sleeve

  19. Marco says:

B&B viewer are a loyal bunch. They’ll watch it whatever time it’s on.

And who usually controls the remote control at night – kids and teens. The move can’t not work!

Time will tell anyway. If it doesn’t work, it’s done over non-ratings, and they’ll move it back to 4.30pm come February. Ten really don’t have much to lose giving this a shot.

  20. Vanessa says:

How Stupid is this! Why are TV programmers so stupid! Don’t they realise that their audience will be busy cooking dinner at 6pm or watching the news. Their ratings will drop and moving B & B to 6 is not going to get any new viewers and the old ones won’t watch cause its a stupid time.

  21. Lewis says:

    Ridiculous programming:

    1. Moving Bold to 6.00 could well be the beginning of the end for Bold. It has a loyal, dedicated fanbase at 4.30. Why does TEN think moving it will do it good? It wins its timeslot already, and I can’t see it doing any better up against the news services. This will kill the audience for Bold, and eventually they’ll probably axe it due to low ratings. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

    2. Friends. Again. Simpsons, or even Raymond, would be a better choice.

TEN is a basket-case. Out of the Blue late at night when they’re crying out for half-hour shows between 6 and 8.30. Got rid of the rights to the best sticom ever made (Seinfeld), which would easily work at either 6pm or 7pm. Repeatedly showing Friends when no one wants it. And shifting TBATB from 4.30, where it works well, to 6, where it’s likely to collapse and never regain its audience.

  22. DanR says:

Bold in prime time is a smart move – certainly worth the experiment

  23. Andrew says:

So what’s gonna take over Neighbours? Will & Grace?

They should give other sitcoms a go since they have nothing to lose. Why not Hope & Faith or old Ellen episodes? (her tv show not chat show) There are so many other sitcoms they could try, not everyone has foxtel and look how 2 and a half men only got popular after bringing it back.

  24. wamdue says:

    thats crazy

  25. Rick says:

I don’t know why they even bother with Friends, Will and Grace, or any of that crap. Just throw on The Simpsons, Futurama, or other stuff that repeats well. Clearly that’s what most people want…

And why not throw Out Of the Blue in there too? Something like this…

6:00 – Out Of The Blue
    6:30 – Neighbors
    7:00 – The Simpsons
    7:30 – Futurama

  26. Dan says:

I admit I do like Will and Grace, but this just adds me incentive to collect the season on DVD. It’s no big deal to me, I can see this on Foxtel anytime. BUt oh my god- More Raymond? I love the show, have the DVD season 1-9, doesn’t this channel have anything new to air? Come on, it’s as if they’re just not giving a flying f*** anymore.

What is it with this Friends business? What is so special about it that it has to yet again come back on the schedule? Stuff that crap.

Let’s see them air Judge Judy at 7.00pm, or better yet put the idiots at TEN on Judge Judy and get a thrashing from her – they seem to need it. I will be avoiding TEN like the plague during the summer, Neighbours finishes in early December, and judging by that release schedule for December’s first week – Won’t be watching much else apart from Neighbours.

  27. knoxoverstreet says:

10 only just finished it’s first run of Friends actually and now are showing S6 for a second time. I’ve seen all the eps a few times but it’s one of my favorite sitcoms and I could watch it over and over. Now thanks to 10 I can :)

And Luke 10 just can’t get a show back once they’ve given up the rights..though I agree Seinfeld is a little better then Friends and light years better then W&G fact is Nine now own the rights. 2.5 Men,BBT,Friends & Raymond will help keep me entertained over summer!

  28. Harry. says:

:( I cant believe Will & Grace got axed. I now must get the box set with all the seasons, Im addicted to show now! As for Bold and The Beautiful at 6.00pm – thats an odd move which I do not see working. As for Friends – That will end up getting axed anyway… this is the 10th time Friends has re – appeared on TEN.

  29. pinky says:

    Please…no more Friends!

God, we’ve seen the whole thing to the end.

I actually like W&G, but then I’m gay. It’s a nice change. Friends is not.

  30. Luke W says:

Channel Ten is increadible. Can’t they just get the rights to Seinfeld back and play it at 7:00 like they used to? Better than W&G and Friends put together.

And I have to say it is a suprisingly weird move by Ten to move B&B to 6:00. The fact it will tie in nicely with Neighbours is good as the same audience who watches B&B usually watches Neighbours too, but as others said, people still want their news and some will dump it to get their headlines.

  31. ali says:

Get rid of Friends at 7pm and bring back the Simpsons at 7 instead.

  32. Natasha says:

Why would anyone watch B&B when the news is on instead? Its a stupid move. Why change something that’s always worked in the past? Wether or not it gets the ratings.

  33. RichoTB says:

Why bother with The Ex List? If they’re airing that axed show they may as well show Swingtown as well.

And why bother with B&B and Friends repeats again when 2 seasons of the marvelous Office are sitting on the shelf?? Not cool Ten.

  34. Rob says:

Some angry ants out there but with names like John and Zambora (man the eighties are over dude and big hair is gone) no wonder you’re cranky.

    Like John Stewart though

  35. Simon says:

Law And Order (Original), repeats on Fridays at 9.30pm how about Season 18 of it instead Channel 10 (if you even finished off Season 17 that is), they did start showing Season 18 in the US in Jan ‘08 though, so I suppose the chances of us getting to see it is not reasonable.

  36. Zambora says:

More radio and internet and walking – less TV

  37. John says:

Done! That’s it. Everytime The Simpsons is gone I quit channel 10.

    F*** you, I don’t need you.

B&B in primetime? W&G replaced by Friends?

    Done! I’m done. Good ridance.

Tell me when Simpsons is back at 6pm. It’s the only time you get my viewership.

  38. bindi says:

nope itsross it is illegal to download them off the internet but recording shows off tv broadcasts is 100% legal, it is the timeshifting exception to copyright and then transferrring it off the PVR hard drive onto dvd (a function the machine is designed for and sold for) is the format shifting exception to copyright. this same exception also makes it legal for you to transfer music off a cd onto itunes and from itunes onto your ipod. they amended the copyright act to allow this when ipods surged and they also took the opportunity to get rid of the long standing absurdity that made use of VCR’s illegal despite being used by everyone, sold legally in stores, and serving no other purpose than recording tv to a tape. trust me i studied copyright law at uni, it is totally legal, the textbooks, lecturers and the act say so.

  39. Jellyman says:

Ten’s making some Bad Choices Lately.

  40. Marco says:

Woohoo! Doesn’t mean much to me who has recorded and watched B&B since it started in 1987 on my uni holidays (yes I’ve been watching 21 years!) and will watch it at whatever time it’s put on – it has been on at 1pm, 3pm and also around 10.30/11pm over the years before doing really well at 4.30pm – but I had told Ten time and time again over the years that it would be genius to move B&B to primetime, and they have finally woken up.

I can assure anyone who likes soaps but is happy to dismiss B&B just because it’s a “daytime” soap that it actually is the best soap out there! Half a million Aussie viewers can’t be wrong. Some of the best actors actually work on B&B – dare you to watch Susan Flannery in the role of Stephanie Forrester or Katherine Kelly Lang as Brooke for an episode or two and tell me they are useless actors. They are amazing. I’m hanging out for the next bitch slap between them! ;-)

Now you’ll catch all the mums and teens who watch it after school anyway, and also the many many people who used to record the show and watch it after work/uni etc – and now these figures will count in the ratings when they watch the show live.

I don’t think it can fail at all – it won’t get Seven New’s ratings, but it is bound to make a dent in them, and hopefully keep the viewers tuned to Ten for the rest of the night.

  41. Chris says:

What? They’re getting rid of the Simpsons again? The bastards!

  42. stevie g says:

At 6.00pm makes no difference. i will still have to tape it, as just getting home at that time. Plus it will still have be edited. If it has to be in prime time, would have been better at 7.00 while H&A is off for summer. If this dosn’t work, I hope it goes to a traditional daytime slot like 3.00,pm then it won’t have to be edited.

  43. knoxoverstreet says:

Woohoo Will & Grace has been given the boot! A very average sitcom undeed.. Very happy to see the return of Friends & Everybody Loves Raymond @ 3pm is also great news.

  44. Benno says:

Sunday arvo is still airing it, but definitely not making the most of the show.

Would a good run really do much worse than friends repeats (and now more repeats of repeats) were getting? Plus, aren’t EHC repeats of season 1? First run comedy versus repeats which aired not long ago and rated poorly……

  45. R says:

well, that’s one less network for me to watch during summer.

  46. slydoggie says:

Benno – check out Everybody hates Chris on Sunday’s on TENHD

  47. Ralph says:

Damn!! There goes The Simpsons again :(

  48. itsross says:

Bindi, I’m pretty sure burning seasons of Will and Grace to DVD is perfectly illegal.

  49. andy says:

Just when I thought ten couldn’t make any more stupid decisions… it replaces a repeat at 7pm with a repeat of a show possibly aired 3-4 months ago. How stupid do they think viewers are?

  50. may says:

yay for airing the britney special.. but there have been no promos for it?? there have been heaps of articles in the UK and US re: the special!

  51. Russell says:

Will sure be interesting to see how B&B rates at 6pm. We’ll soon see if Bold can attract a whole lot of new viewers who currently don’t watch the show at 4.30pm. There are certainly more potential eyeballs at 6 than 4.30, but we’ll have to see if it can
    a) keep all the viewers who are watching the Simpsons at 6 now (and increae on them)
    b) get current 4.30pm watchers to move to 6 with the show (they may already be committed to the news at 6)

When did B&B become primetime material? Neighbours and Home and Away are also pure soap and air primetime.
It’s certainly an alternative to local news services on Seven & Nine. And makes for a great pairing with Neighbours at 6.30pm for an hour of sudsy soaps.

  52. David Knox says:

Leon, as indicated in the article.

  53. Sillygostly says:

Wow. Ten actually listened! :D I *knew* that B&B would someday move to primetime. Still though, I think it would’ve been wiser to move it to 7pm where they would have to do less editing (if any), and they could have kept Simpsons in the 6pm slot.

  54. Kubz says:

I think this has potential to do well as long as TEN advertise the crap out of the change. It could help to attract older viewers over to TEN. Also i wonder whether Will & Grace will get the Neighbours slot over summer.

  55. Leon says:

According to Ch10 & My Foxtel IQ guide will & grace will still air tonight.. is this whole change starting from December 1st?

  56. bindi says:

well that frees up some space on my PVR, i’ve been recording will & grace to burn to dvd and make my own set but i was waiting to see how far they get before burning any to dvd, although starting at season 2 was a bit off. but now i hope i win their competition to win the whole set on dvd coz i don’t really want to buy it, hence why i was making my own (which is perfectly legal). but now i’ll just delete them all, and possibly not even bother watching the remaining eps as i saw them the first time around. but i definitely won’t be watching friends as i do already have that on dvd. also b&b does not interest me. they have had nothing but positive feedback on this site about the idea to put on macgyver, why don’t they do that?

  57. tai says:

friends? why not raymond at 7

  58. tai says:

wowm BOLD move by ten D:

  59. Erika says:

    Yay! I love B&B.

  60. Benno says:

Bold and the Beautiful is definitely not prime-time material, no matter whether it rates well earlier. Friends repeats again? They have to be kidding. Why are they leaving the hilarious everybody hates chris out of prime-time? Just try it 10, heaps of people like Chris Rock’s material. Season 4 is currently airing in the states and i’m fairly sure 10 hasn’t even started the 2nd season. Who is making these decisions? Well, i have lots of TV show episodes on DVD and brand new torrents just ready to be watched this summer.

  61. Nathan says:

This is so stupid! The little amount of people who’d watch Bold and the Old will surely drop Tens ratings…

Simpsons would should get more views…

  62. Purple Wyrm says:

“Sat 6 Dec, 11:20pm Movie: TBA” is the most promising thing on the entire schedule.

  63. Daniel says:

Summer time is Seven time… for me — or Torrent time haha!

  64. Glenn Petrie says:

Since when did daytime soaps like B&B end up in prime time?

  65. Boy Wonder says:

B&B @ 6pm! OK, well thats something different I suppose. It is #1 in Australia @ 4.30pm apparently and is the highest rating show in the world ( 500million viewers a day or something crazy like that) so it’ll be interesting. Maybe TEN should do a who’s who/ done what to who show to interest new viewers?

  66. kay says:

Having read through the offerings for the first week of December, I know now I won’t be turning on Ten all Summer.

Hopefully the other networks will have something better to offer, otherwise we’ll be catching up on the boxed sets we’ve bought through the year for times like this!

  67. pietro says:

I’m pretty sure B&B is now in WS HD in the US. Wherever 10 puts the show, will we be getting the “upmarket” version I wonder?

  68. seriously says:

As much as TEN is my fav channel… i’m only gonna be watching ANTM, 90210 and sometimes NCIS and Judge Judy.

  69. salty says:

should have sampled a 7pm evening news bulletin to see how it could possibly go later down the track…

  70. Matt F says:

God bless the internet for entertainment

  71. Ben says:

TV programming has become entertaining in itself.

  72. itsross says:

Yay for Judge Judy moving to a later time slot, hopefully Southern Cross Ten will finally start showing JJ instead of the infomercials they usually show at 3pm. Our Ten Sydney reception is a bit dodgy in our house so I usually have to go without JJ.

PO’d about them cancelling Will and Grace, I friggin hate Friends.

  73. mickey says:

woo hoo i wont miss the bold any more yay thank you ten.

  74. Jerome says:

with a choice of how i met your mother, temptation, and will and grace i was going to watch W&G when home and away finished. they kept it on for this long they should have waited atleast one week into summer. but i guess they still have my viewing. i will be watching friends, and imagine most of the W&G fans / some H&A fans will aswell

  75. Rose says:

Ten are showing ‘Britney- For the Record’?? That is awesome. I want to watch that. Thank you Ten.

No Simpsons at 6pm?? Wow, thats big. But i dont mind B&B even though i watch the news at 6pm :p

  76. Angelsgal says:

This is quite a strange move, which i dont see working. What are they thinking, Bold in primetime. Friends repeats, oh god please stop. Yt they couldnt put OOTB on at 7pm (even if it had to be slightly edited) is beond me. Aussie drama in the pits at 10:30, 10 year old repeats of friends in an anchoring primetime slot. As for Bold, have Ten thought about what damage this could do to ten news. Bold ourates both 7 and 9’s 4:30 news and regulary pulls close to 500k, creating a strong lead in for ten news. If ten want to fix 6pm, they should do a ACA style show out of ten news, if it can at least hold the news numbers which are sometimes as high as 1mil and rerely under 800k, then ten could start winning nights, they have the daytime advantage and dont take it to primetime

  77. jayfunk says:

ver interesting, am dying to see the figures…and seriously, school of rock again!!! My god, TEN should go get a video card and hire some new flicks from their local video store. Play some classics like Edward Scissorhands or Sister Act or something different. Would love to see the National Lampoons flicks again

  78. Ian says:

Doesn’t make any difference to me, the shows mentioned in the article are chick flicks anyway, Seriously!

    Oh, I hate Raymond! Seriously!

  79. pondie84 says:

Interesting… I was all ready to call this dumb but who knows?

  80. newtaste says:

If Ten moved B&B to 7:00pm and PG time they probably would not need to edit.
