TEN moves Bold & Beautiful to primetime

TEN is still tweaking its summer line-up, moving The Bold & The Beautiful to 6pm, dumping Will & Grace and adding The Ex-List.

Here’s a bold (but how beautiful?) programming move by TEN. The network has just announced some significant changes to its summer scheduling.

Afternoon US soap The Bold and The Beautiful is officially moving to primetime, winning a new 6pm timeslot from Monday December 1st. It will be replaced by Judge Judy at 4:30pm.

TEN has also bitten the bullet on its under-performing Will and Grace episodes, axed for the return of Friends at 7pm. It returns with S6E12 “The One With The Joke.”

The timeslot has been a crazy game of musical chairs recently, including Bondi Rescue, Taken Out, Friends, Will and Grace and back to Friends. Is it any wonder viewers have given up?

Dumping the sitcom at 7pm will also see a planned extra summer episode at 7:30pm Mondays replaced with another Friends.

TEN has also announced the premiere of already-axed The Ex-List for summer. The drama follows a woman (Elizabeth Reaser) who learns from a psychic that she has already been romantically involved with the man of her dreams. If she doesn’t reunite with him in a year, she’ll never marry her true love. Only 4 episodes aired in the US.

It premieres at 9:30pm Monday December 1st.

Replacing Judge Judy at 3:00pm weekdays will be repeats of Everybody Loves Raymond.

  1. Why would anyone watch B&B when the news is on instead? Its a stupid move. Why change something that’s always worked in the past? Wether or not it gets the ratings.

  2. Why bother with The Ex List? If they’re airing that axed show they may as well show Swingtown as well.

And why bother with B&B and Friends repeats again when 2 seasons of the marvelous Office are sitting on the shelf?? Not cool Ten.

  3. Some angry ants out there but with names like John and Zambora (man the eighties are over dude and big hair is gone) no wonder you’re cranky.

    Like John Stewart though

  4. Law And Order (Original), repeats on Fridays at 9.30pm how about Season 18 of it instead Channel 10 (if you even finished off Season 17 that is), they did start showing Season 18 in the US in Jan ’08 though, so I suppose the chances of us getting to see it is not reasonable.

  5. Done! That’s it. Everytime The Simpsons is gone I quit channel 10.

    F*** you, I don’t need you.

B&B in primetime? W&G replaced by Friends?

    Done! I’m done. Good ridance.

Tell me when Simpsons is back at 6pm. It’s the only time you get my viewership.

  6. nope itsross it is illegal to download them off the internet but recording shows off tv broadcasts is 100% legal, it is the timeshifting exception to copyright and then transferrring it off the PVR hard drive onto dvd (a function the machine is designed for and sold for) is the format shifting exception to copyright. this same exception also makes it legal for you to transfer music off a cd onto itunes and from itunes onto your ipod. they amended the copyright act to allow this when ipods surged and they also took the opportunity to get rid of the long standing absurdity that made use of VCR’s illegal despite being used by everyone, sold legally in stores, and serving no other purpose than recording tv to a tape. trust me i studied copyright law at uni, it is totally legal, the textbooks, lecturers and the act say so.

  7. Woohoo! Doesn’t mean much to me who has recorded and watched B&B since it started in 1987 on my uni holidays (yes I’ve been watching 21 years!) and will watch it at whatever time it’s put on – it has been on at 1pm, 3pm and also around 10.30/11pm over the years before doing really well at 4.30pm – but I had told Ten time and time again over the years that it would be genius to move B&B to primetime, and they have finally woken up.

I can assure anyone who likes soaps but is happy to dismiss B&B just because it’s a “daytime” soap that it actually is the best soap out there! Half a million Aussie viewers can’t be wrong. Some of the best actors actually work on B&B – dare you to watch Susan Flannery in the role of Stephanie Forrester or Katherine Kelly Lang as Brooke for an episode or two and tell me they are useless actors. They are amazing. I’m hanging out for the next bitch slap between them! 😉

Now you’ll catch all the mums and teens who watch it after school anyway, and also the many many people who used to record the show and watch it after work/uni etc – and now these figures will count in the ratings when they watch the show live.

I don’t think it can fail at all – it won’t get Seven New’s ratings, but it is bound to make a dent in them, and hopefully keep the viewers tuned to Ten for the rest of the night.

  8. At 6.00pm makes no difference. i will still have to tape it, as just getting home at that time. Plus it will still have be edited. If it has to be in prime time, would have been better at 7.00 while H&A is off for summer. If this dosn’t work, I hope it goes to a traditional daytime slot like 3.00,pm then it won’t have to be edited.

  9. Woohoo Will & Grace has been given the boot! A very average sitcom undeed.. Very happy to see the return of Friends & Everybody Loves Raymond @ 3pm is also great news.

  10. Sunday arvo is still airing it, but definitely not making the most of the show.

Would a good run really do much worse than friends repeats (and now more repeats of repeats) were getting? Plus, aren’t EHC repeats of season 1? First run comedy versus repeats which aired not long ago and rated poorly……

  11. Just when I thought ten couldn’t make any more stupid decisions… it replaces a repeat at 7pm with a repeat of a show possibly aired 3-4 months ago. How stupid do they think viewers are?

  12. Will sure be interesting to see how B&B rates at 6pm. We’ll soon see if Bold can attract a whole lot of new viewers who currently don’t watch the show at 4.30pm. There are certainly more potential eyeballs at 6 than 4.30, but we’ll have to see if it can
    a) keep all the viewers who are watching the Simpsons at 6 now (and increae on them)
    b) get current 4.30pm watchers to move to 6 with the show (they may already be committed to the news at 6)

When did B&B become primetime material? Neighbours and Home and Away are also pure soap and air primetime.
It’s certainly an alternative to local news services on Seven & Nine. And makes for a great pairing with Neighbours at 6.30pm for an hour of sudsy soaps.

  13. Wow. Ten actually listened! 😀 I *knew* that B&B would someday move to primetime. Still though, I think it would’ve been wiser to move it to 7pm where they would have to do less editing (if any), and they could have kept Simpsons in the 6pm slot.

  14. I think this has potential to do well as long as TEN advertise the crap out of the change. It could help to attract older viewers over to TEN. Also i wonder whether Will & Grace will get the Neighbours slot over summer.
