More AFL Footy Show rumours hint at change for the show next year.
Trevor Marmalade, who has been with the show since its inception, is believed to be in contract negotiations with Nine.
Marmalade yesterday would not be drawn. “It is all news to me,” he said. “I have not really had any discussions with the network. I would have thought it would have been business as usual.”
Channel TEN’s Peter Helliar has been mentioned as a possible recruit, according to the Herald Sun.
But a Nine spokeswoman said: “Trevor is under contract at Channel 9 and we have not spoken to Peter Helliar.”
Helliar, who appears on Rove and Before the Game, would seem an unlikely candidate alongside the antics of Sam Newman. But the speculation, added to the addition of James Brayshaw to the Sunday Footy Show, does hint at future change for the show -including whether Eddie McGuire should return to a hosting role.
Meanwhile, what of the NRL Footy Show? It’s been on thin ice for much of the year, and its Grand Final edition limped out with just 319,000 viewers.

if that helliar comes in. the show will last 2 weeks. his alter ego moron isnt even funny and they have him on all the time. keep trev and get rid of jb and lyon. bring back eddie which is going to happen anyway
i don’t see why they can’t leave it as it is. sure, sam had lots of controversy this year, but that made compelling viewing in several cases. if it ain’t broke, dont fix it as the cliche goes. however, i agree, the NRL footy show is stale, and needs some changes.

I dont think and I hope that Helliar would not associate him self with an aged format and with sam newman.
Although it may help him promote his triple M breakfast show to the target audience?

If they decided to bench Trev it would just confirm to me that the decision makers at Ch9 don’t have a clue. Trev is hilarious, consistent and isn’t over the top like some of the others on the show. If they want to make some changes, get a decent host. I don’t mind Gary or James, but imo Eddie was more suited to the position. No matter what you think of Eddie, he was professional and kept the show running smoothly.

Not quite. Its just in different timezones elsewhere. The finale figure was appalling regardless.
The reason 9 didn’t dump the NRL footy show is because it is only on in Brisbane and Sydney. So they can’t expect it to get 900 thousand in 2 cities.
Marmalade has been one of the only posiive things about the afl footy show especially since macguire left. As for the nrl one…319000 viewers…strange that nine normally dumps shows that are under 900,000 viewers so why does this piece of ….. remain…one wonders. If it was more like the afl footy show which apart from newman is a bit more targeted to the actually sport and a bit more informative then it may be worth keeping.
