I know, i do exactly that. I was feeding off the comment from RichoTB and other people saying that they should save new eps of shows for next year. Either way, the episodes make it in our tv season.

  2. Ben Tree November 16, 2008 at 3:01 pm -

What do the Perfect Man rate for 10 on Saturday Night at 6:30pm???

  3. Craig November 16, 2008 at 2:14 pm -

Benno that’s the point of fast tracking, more viewers now know the US season starts in Sept and they want to see their show ASAP or they will find a way of getting it.

Showing eps late in our TV season isn’t a waste where viewers know they are new and not re-runs thrown in like with 2.5 Men and City Homicide.

I think what many people keep forgetting is that september-november is still in our ratings season, so if they aired many more shows very soon after the US date, they still make it into our tv season. It’s not like if they air new episodes and the end of the year they are wasted.

  6. RichoTB November 16, 2008 at 1:20 am -

Ryan, they’re probably holding it over until next year. SVU is one of their biggest rating shows and they’ll want something strong to start them off. Ten commonly do this with L&O shows, I think the original L&O is a couple of seasons behind now and CI didn’t start airing until 6 months after its season started in the US. Expect new SVU in Feb next year

  7. ryan November 15, 2008 at 6:29 pm -

im curious to know why ten aren’t showing season 10 of law and order s.v.u which started at the end of sep 08 and runs till may 09, has anyone heard anything??

  8. Craig November 15, 2008 at 12:06 pm -

The Informant should have done better, at least it beat the Seven shark movie.

So how did the networks do over all for the night and who is leading the week?

  9. Glenn Petrie November 15, 2008 at 10:35 am -

And whatever happened to The Rich List? I remember it scored over 1m viewers when it first came on, but viewers seem to be going “meh” and now it is now rating poorly.

  10. Craig November 15, 2008 at 9:45 am -

Okay Nine may not have killed The Strip (I haven’t watched since the 3rd ep) but moving it to 10:30 and bypassing 9:30 put a few more nails in it’s coffin.

I really like Rush and glad it got a 2nd season to grow.

The cricket will need huge numbers to overtake 7 in the ratings this week.

  11. Rutzie November 15, 2008 at 1:47 am -

If Nine get big numbers for the Twenty/20 cricket match on Friday they might just snatch this week from Seven.

  12. Tepee November 14, 2008 at 7:14 pm -

More Nine-stabbing, this time from Craig. Nine didn’t “kill” The Strip – in fact it gave it an excellent timeslot, and patiently stuck with it for weeks and weeks, even when it wasn’t working, to see if numbers would grow and let a fanbase manifest.

The Strip killed itself with poor casting, cliched and by-the-numbers scripts, and the fact it was another cop show that nobody asked for.

I usually avoid cop shows and don’t particularly enjoy them, although on the odd occassion I tuned into Rush – which is suspensful, well-acted, and doesn’t rely on being a poor CSI Miani alternative – I enjoyed it. Unlike The Strip.

  13. Craig November 14, 2008 at 4:06 pm -

And the award for quickest way to kill a show goes to the Nine network for it’s work with The Strip, “The next big Local Drama” I wonder if season 2 is on the cards now?

  14. Joshua November 14, 2008 at 4:04 pm -

omg those ratings for Newstopia are atrocious. How can one of the greatest shows on television (imho of course :p) be getting such low numbers?

  15. Harry November 14, 2008 at 3:54 pm -

Oh dear.. Will & Grace 0.469m. I love Will & Grace and I dont want it to go but its only a matter of days before TEN gives it the chop :(

  16. ozgeek November 14, 2008 at 2:26 pm -

You’re right ducko. Looking at the list, it’s a good general rule: keep away from shows with one word titles, they don’t rate. Hey, I think I just worked out how Two and a Half Men gets ratings: it’s just the title length.

Exception: ‘Are you shorter than a 5th grader?’ That is a painful, painful show. My 10 year old can’t even stand it and he’s in 5th grade.

  17. David Knox November 14, 2008 at 1:10 pm -

There are different codes for Pay over FTA. The view is that you have consented to opt into Pay channels so there is a little more leeway over what can run when -although it is not a free for all. FTA has more protection to reflect that anyone could inadvertently walk into a room or stumble onto something with the press of a button.

  18. Tony November 14, 2008 at 1:06 pm -

Why is cable able to get away with showing Stewart at an earlier time? Our Global Edition, complete with swear words unbleeped, airs at 5.30pm! The regular edition has bleeps.

  19. cpandilo November 14, 2008 at 12:55 pm -

Rutzie, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart cannot be shown at 7pm because of its classification which is usually either M or MA15+. Ten would have to edit it so that its rated PG – but then how much content would be left to show? Plus, they only have the rights to the Global Edition as Comedy Channel has the rights to the actual series.

  20. Tony November 14, 2008 at 12:04 pm -

Thursday night has been a dead zone for free-to-air tv for a while. Nothing worth watching.

  21. seanie November 14, 2008 at 11:32 am -

I am so glad Heroes beat that shit The Strip.

  22. David Knox November 14, 2008 at 11:19 am -

    Remember it is 10.30 now….

  23. Humus November 14, 2008 at 10:59 am -

    The Strip got stripped!!!!

  24. Lewis November 14, 2008 at 10:44 am -

Ha! Heroes beat The Srip. How nice.

  25. David Knox November 13, 2008 at 11:39 pm -

Carta by my reckoning there are 7 more Survivor eps and 6 more TARs. Where they are scheduled is anyone’s guess (TAR will be 9pm Nov 27).

  26. Carta November 13, 2008 at 11:18 pm -

David, do you know when Survivor and The Amazing Race are scheduled to finish? I leave for five weeks overseas in early December and I’m trying to figure out whether I should start downloading episodes now to take away with me or just have someone record them for me while I’m away and watch them when I get home. If you know the dates, are you able to share them, please? No dramas if you can’t!

  27. Harry November 13, 2008 at 8:51 pm -

    * I meant to say Life, not like in my last post.

  28. David Knox November 13, 2008 at 8:36 pm -

    U mean Domestic Blitz?

  29. Craig November 13, 2008 at 8:35 pm -

I saw an ad saying Battlefronts next Monday was the season final, I remember because it’s only the 2nd one on that day.

  30. Sillygostly November 13, 2008 at 7:10 pm -

Ugh. What dismal ratings for Futurama. :( It deserved much, much better than that, even if it’s been out on DVD for a while. There are a number of reasons for this…

    1) Mainstream viewers have no taste. I mean, 2 1/2 Men over Futurama? Come on!!!! >:(
    2) They didn’t air it back-to-back with a more compatible show (i.e. The Simpsons).
    3) Dismal lead-in
    4) Only 4 days notice…

They did do one thing right, and that was airing two new eps back-to-back, but unfortunately it didn’t seem to pay off for them. :(

Come on, TEN! Play The Office at 7pm! >:( Honestly, it can’t possibly get any worse than this… (though I’ve been proven wrong before)

  31. David Knox November 13, 2008 at 5:52 pm -

    1) Xmas with the Kranks **yawn*
    2) No but probably
    3) Pretty certain. Maybe even Gabon too?

  32. Billy November 13, 2008 at 4:53 pm -

Hey David, wanted to ask you a few questions:
    1) The Mentalist finale is next week, do u know wat is going to air the weekend after in that slot.
2)Do u know if Battlefronts will air over summer
3)Will Survivor continue at 10 30 when the ratins period finishes.
    Cheers

  33. Andrew November 13, 2008 at 4:19 pm -

great to see spicks and specks win their timeslot. great episode with geofrey rush and the wiggles

  34. Craig November 13, 2008 at 3:48 pm -

Again 2.5 Men rates in re-runs WTF! Futurama should be getting those numbers. I stopped watching 2.5 Men in re-runs until ch9 can bring use the news eps it promised, it have 3-4 new eps we have not seen, which I guess they are banking for next year since noting much else is working.

Maybe everyone need to make a new year wish that it bombs in 2009 so we don’t get it 10 times a weeks again next year!

  35. Harry November 13, 2008 at 3:45 pm -

Neighbours rocks and deserves the Top Spot for TEN :) I love that show.. Futurama – axed. It rated worse than Big Cat Diary! TEN shouldve stuck with BCD, they never gave it a chance to pick up an audience.

I cannot believe 2.5 men was the top rating show.. that show is so boring.
Like should be rating alot higher… I dont know why people dont watch TEN Shows.. all of them have potential. Maybe people just dont like the Network..

  36. RichoTB November 13, 2008 at 2:42 pm -

The Mentalist is fantastic – infinitely better than boring ass procedurals like House and Criminal Minds. At least with TM the characters are interesting and actually develop…unlike House where the cynical, suicidal doctor is the only character with more than one dimension. Life is great too, fantastic show, the ratings should be triple what they are now but then again when the nation’s top-rating shows are turd like Border Security, Domestic Blitz and 2.5 men you can’t expect well-written shows with actual substance like LOST and Life to actually develop a sizable audience

  37. Chris November 13, 2008 at 2:21 pm -

ps, David, how is house doing in US. Is it as bad as here? cheers

  38. David Knox November 13, 2008 at 2:20 pm -

The bigger US shows run Sept – May across “sweeps.” 24 eps is still 24 eps no matter when you run them…. The key is to improve summer so it’s not a total dead zone.

  39. Chris November 13, 2008 at 2:20 pm -

Wow – Ch 10 just keep getting worse!! Neighbours as their highest rating show?! ( #19 with 759k!!)

Ch10 will have alot to do next yr, if they want to improve – they will be praying their new shows work!!

  40. 42HD November 13, 2008 at 2:09 pm -

When are we ever going to get out of this archaic concept of “Summer TV” where the few shows worth watching are no longer on? And when shows that are “fats-tracked” have a 2 month break here but continue in the US?

Fair enough – 2 weeks off for Xmas, but not 2 months. To me it is like having your local store taking all the good products off the shelf during Xmas time and only selling poor alternatives. No normal business closes for 2 months during Xmas – do they?

This concept of non-ratings period is dated and is free to air TV’s demise considering the alternative options there are now and the fact that ratings really are still counted over the off season – how else do the networks know what does and does not work?

  41. ducko November 13, 2008 at 1:46 pm -

Doesn’t only apply to American shows Ozgeek. How about Rush,Rove & Neighbours?
