Housewives seek another two seasons

Desperate Housewives creator / producer Marc Cherry is in talks about continuing the hit series for another two seasons. Cherry has long maintained he saw the show winding up after its seventh season.

Currently in its fifth season, it is yet to be renewed beyond May, but the “five year leap” has received positive acclaim.

“I started recently talks with (ABC Entertainment president) Steve McPherson and (ABC Studios president) Mark Pedowitz about continuing the show for a ninth season,” Cherry was quoted saying at a cake-cutting ceremony for the show’s 100th episode. “We’re …

TAC: Sudden Impact valuable message

TAC boss David Healy has hit back at media comments Nine’s Sudden Impact cost $4m to produce and that the organisation should’nt be involved with a television series. He says the figures are wrong and criticisms misguided.

‘‘Certainly, from our viewpoint, no apologies,” Healy told the Herald Sun. ‘‘The cost is under $1 million in total and my understanding is that the costs are the equivalent to the production of one (TAC) television commercial.

‘‘On that basis, we’re getting four hours of television coverage (for the same price) at a time when …

‘Perfect blend’ to colour casting

Producer Susan Bowers has commented on criticism that Neighbours has cast “too white.” She plans to introduce more ethnic diversity on the show, but not as a response to the criticism, but as part of a long-term vision she already had in mind.

‘‘I’ll be quite up-front — when I took over the show everyone was very white, including the extras,” Bower told the Herald Sun. ‘‘It was on my agenda (before the UK controversy) to change that.

‘‘I would like it (Neighbours) to reflect Australian society, but I can’t give Libby and Dan a black …

Survivor voted out from Nine?

Survivor: Gabon has been promised by Nine for summer but it won’t be following Survivor: Micronesia.

It would have been the logical place for the show to appear, but Nine will return unaired episodes of Monster House on Monday December 29 and movies on Tuesday December 30.

A week later it’s more of the same.

Any hope that it might be moving to 9HD, given the series is filmed in high definition for the first time, also seems premature.

And while we’re on the subject of Jeff Probst, has he ever done a photo shoot …

Gossip Girl

Pretty kids, romantic trysts, sororities, parties and fashion. Is there anything that separates one teen soap from another? Why does 90210 flop in Australia when Gossip Girl gets good buzz?

Based on the novel series by Cecily von Ziegesar (that’s gotta be a pen name, surely?) the second series of Gossip Girl has returned to FOX8, while the first is screening on Channel Nine, who bafflingly sold it to Foxtel in the first place.

Producer Josh Schwartz oversees this adaptation, a man who, after his runaway series The OC, is a challenger to Darren …
