Airdate: True Blood

By David Knox on December 27, 2008 / Filed Under Pay TV 9

One of 2009′s most anticipated new shows begins in February on the Showcase channel: True Blood.

The gothic vampire series is created by Alan Ball (Six Feet Under, American Beauty) and stars Australia’s Ryan Kwanten and New Zealander Anna Paquin.

According to the show’s synopsis, ‘Thanks to a Japanese scientist’s invention of synthetic blood, vampires have progressed from legendary monsters to fellow citizens overnight. And while humans have been safely removed from the menu, many remain apprehensive about these creatures “coming out of the coffin.” Religious leaders and government officials around the world have chosen their sides, but in the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps, the jury is still out.’

The series is already nominated in the Golden Globe Awards as Best Drama.

It premieres Tuesday February 10 at 8.30pm on Showcase.

Awesome, addictive TV. Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) is the perfect vampy love interest. Kudos to the excellent cast and perpetually interesting storylines based on the Sookie Stackhouse series or novels by Charlaine Harris.
Alan Ball doesn’t stick too closely to the books which makes me hope for more Bill in Series 2.
    Watch it!!!

I have seen the entire series and read the books from which it was adapted. Both great

I can’t see it being popular here in Aust. as we seem to shy away from anything really interesting. Thank goodness it is on pay tv at least it will run the entire season , not drop it after two airings.

I have seen season 1 and loved it. It has been given the go ahead for season 2 so don’t be afraid to watch it.

Ryan Kwanten is terrific. He plays the best TV dumbass I’ve ever seen.
