Could Arrested Development's Michael Cera be donning a red shirt and white hat for a feature on Gilligan's Island?

Arrested Development’s ‘George Michael’ as a big screen Gilligan?

It’s an idea being pursued by creator Sherwood Schwartz (The Brady Bunch) and his son Lloyd Schwartz. Certainly the Brady franchise was enormously popular for Schwartz and Paramount on the big screen, thanks to the irreverent tone set by a stage production that had become a cult hit.

If the two Schwartzes have it their way, Michael Cera will be slipping into that famous red shirt and white hat as Gilligan. They are also currently trying to nab Beyonce as movie star Ginger.

Speaking with TV Guide during his induction into the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Sherwood explained that a deal, “Just happened in the last 48 hours. I can’t take this much excitement at my age.”

Dawn Wells, who played Mary Anne on the series, said, “There isn’t anybody sexier than Beyonce!” You can bet she’ll be busting for a cameo. Anything to put that driving incident behind her.

The Gilligan’s Island movie doesn’t have a set start date at this time, and so far no actors have actually been signed just yet.

    But it leaves out Tony Hale and David Cross….

  3. Arrested movie first!!! Michael suits the Gilligan role, but Beyonce is a mistake! Maybe Eva Mendes.

    Even better, the whole Arrested cast could join the cast of Gilligan!!

  4. He looks like he could play Gilligan but Beyonce as Ginger???

    If it gently pokes fun at the original series ala Brady Bunch or Starsky & Hutch it could be a winner.
