Eddie McGuire has responded to comment on his future.

Writing in his Sunday Herald Sun column, the Nine host says, ‘Despite popular belief, I haven’t been sitting around doing nothing in this past year.

‘On the contrary, it has been one of the busiest years of my life, the results of which may manifest themselves on TV, radio and in print next year.’

For Nine this will be a positive step, especially given it’s paying him a lot of money for little on-screen results. TV Tonight hears it recently canned plans for him to front a local version of Opportunity Knocks. The most recent talk is for a new 5:30pm show.

Maybe he could also front the local version of Secret Millionaire Nine is planning. He could lead us through some scenes of Jamie Packer handing out dosh to Crown Casino punters…

For all the cynicism, Eddie is a good performer, as long as he’s on the right vehicle and not over-exposed there’s still a place for him on the telly.

Still, he also predicted Collingwood to win the flag in the same column. Don’t believe everything you read.

    He is only in TV because of his money and his connections … if he was judged like the average TV personality he would neve have survived his first year!
    The hypocracy in the industry makes me sick …

  2. They (nine and eddie) have been very vague on exactly what he has been doing this year, just that he has been busy. For $5m a year, it would want to be making nine some money.

    Bollocks! Finally Nine realised viewers couldn’t stomach him any more. The media (cough, Seven) then plays up the “he’s being paid for nothing” angle… but the reality is viewers are happy to see the back of him and who cares if Nine has him on contract and isn’t using him. Sucks to be them.

    He’s history. For the love of the gods, don’t bring him back. He just makes me want to barf.

  4. craig, people aren’t calling him a bludger just because he does nothing. people call him a bludger because he does nothing and gets paid $4mil a year for it.

    personally i cannot stand him, i think he is a arrogant, unthoughtful, horrible person. definately the worst on tv. but why is the money necessary. i’m sure his position at 9 is safe, if they paid him less i doubt 7 or 10 would be interested in buying him.

    saying his been busier than ever is rubbish. TV; we know he hasn’t done much of, and radio and print aren’t that organised to produce something that requires more work than CEO of 9 that far in advance.
    and if it is true, maybe he should have been doing more work as CEO to make that a busier year.

  6. He predicted Collingwood to win the flag next year? With brains like his I wouldve expected him to at least realise that the flag is Hawthorns again next year. Go the Hawks!

  7. LOL Jeb maybe the apprentices could run channel 9 and it could happen because Australian survivor flopped on 9 but that didn’t stop 7 from doing Australian celebrity survivor a few years later which also flopped didn’t it

  8. Eddie would be perfect for a local version of “The Apprentice” – although I guess after the failure of the UK Apprentice on Seven, we won’t be seeing an Aussie Apprentice any time soon.

    i bet thats not true. he just wanted to get people off his back and hope people forget this comment.

    speaking of correct vehicles, a 5:30 magazine show is not. eddie needs space to wave his arms around and boast about himself to a live audience, not the tone of such show.

    i absolutely hate eddie’s personality as i have said so many times on this site. i know so many people that share my thoughts. surely 9 could find someone fresh that everybody likes and save so much of their precious money.
