Bar closes on Trevor’s Footy Show

After 15 years as an original cast member of The Footy Show (AFL), Trevor Marmalade parts with Nine.

Long-standing cast member of The Footy Show (AFL) Trevor Marmalade has seen his 15 year run with the Channel Nine show come to an end.

Following recent speculation he might not be part of the show for 2009, there were reports late yesterday that he was offered a contract but chose not ro re-sign with Nine.

According to news.com.au, he later issued a statement saying, “After 15 years with The Footy Show I have decided to look at other creative challenges, therefore will not be seeking an extension to my contract.

“I have greatly enjoyed my time with the show and am proud to have helped build it from its humble beginnings.

“Having formed many great friendships during this time, I wish the network, cast and crew continued success and look forward to working with them again on other projects.”

Marmalade’s role is not expected to be replaced. Instead the show will draw more upon Billy Brownless and Shane Crawford, while adding new segments.

“Trevor has been a great performer for Nine for the past 15 years on The Footy Show,” GTV9 boss Jeffrey Browne said.

“We wish him the best for the next stage of his career.”

  1. i’m with tommyk. the footy show would be great if it had less footy and were more like rove or ellen. i love my footy but not that much that i need to know where every player in every team will be in will be in every second of the weekend.

there should be more recuring comedy segments still incorperating footy that are there to please everyone.

the main problem with this show it that they have restricted their audience to macho men extreem fans. which only make up a part of the footy community.

  2. This morning on 3AW Peter Ford reported that the reason for the departure was over Salary. According to Ford, Nine had told Marmalade that they would only have him back if he took a pay cut down from 300K to 150K, it was a take it or leave it deal and Marmalade apparently left it.

Now I’m no financial whiz, but if they were paying him $300,000pa to tell 3 jokes a week on a show that only plays on one of Nine’s O&Os (and 4 affiliates) representing less than half of the total Australian aud, they’re weren’t exactly getting their money’s worth were they?

  3. so sam is re-signed, and trev is out

2 reasons that i will not return. this show has become such a monotone bore i always find something better on. if they do “new look” season they should get inspiration from rove or ellen to make it more entertaining. that’s just about the only way they will win back my viewing, and hell maybe others!

  4. NRL Footy show is the place where 9 should be looking to make changes.

The show was regularly beaten by Q&A for godsake!

Every year, Channel 9 only makes “band aid” changes to the NRL Footy Show like a new set, new theme music etc.

Instead, a complete overhaul of the NRL Footy Show panel and format is needed.

Lets see some people on the panel that actually hate each other with a passion – not just four blokes who spend 2 hours agreeing with each other.

I would love to see a panel with people with like Phil Gould, Paul Kent and Phil Rothfield – now that would make for good television!

  5. he was always a good part of the show; pity to see him go.

who would have thought the first person to leave a Footy Show so far this summer was from the AFL rather than the NRL though – where the changes should be happening

  6. Really sad to hear this. Hopefully this doesn’t affect the show too much, which I doubt it will. Sam Newman would have been a bigger loss to The Footy Show had he not renewed his contract.

  7. Noooooooo! Trevor was always consistently funny on The Footy Show ad didn’t resort to cheap laughs. He always had clever and witty jokes. Damn! He will be missed!

  8. This is sad to see. Trev is a very funny man and if you can say that anyone has ‘lifted’ the level of humor on the show Trev has definitely been that person. He’s definitely been on a good wicket there for 15 years and would have been on a good pay packet. Perhaps this is just another sign of cost cutting at Nine. I don’t think the footy show will be as good without him.

  9. No! The one decent guy on their decides to leave!
Why couldn’t this be Grumpy Garry or Old-Man Sam leaving? The Footy Show has lost one of it’s greats (and not to mention, a fantastic North Melbourne supporter!)
Good on ya Trev, leaving while the going’s still good

Hopefully these new segments are a little better than Billy’s Wheel….
