She is such an important part of our network and its continuing success, and we are delighted that she has committed herself to Seven and Sunrise for the long-term,” Mr Leckie said. “Sunrise has completely redefined breakfast television and was the starting point for our overall success five years ago.”

Melissa joined Sunrise full-time from Seven News in 2002.

  1. I was searching to see if her contract was over soon. 5 years !!!! Will someone please explain why!!! Nat is the go girl so natural fun and honest.

  2. I use to like watching Sunrise – until Mel and Kochie became full of themselves. Mel is so insipid and ditsy with the sweet breathy voice – give us a break and put the pen down. As for Kochie – well isn’t he full of his own self importance. Nat and Berretts are much more down to earth.

  3. I prefer Nat,she is so down to earth,Mel’s too giggly and gushy ,flirting with the camera,Kochie is a decent bloke no doubt but I’d rather have Berretts he has more humility, all the crew are great people but these are my preferences.

  4. Congratulations Mel & Seven great choice,.
Without Mel Sunrise is boring, she has a natural energy which livens the whole programme.
I havent watched Sunrise since Mel went on leave Nat just doesnt have the same energy and natural spontaneous reactions that Mel has.
Looking forward to a new bright happy Mel in 2009.
The gal with the million dollar smile!!!!!!

  5. Seven will probably be broke in five years, the way the economy is going, just you watch… Having a good news service is what will do 7 in, in the long term. Money doesn’t grow on American trees no more.

  6. Long term equals what – five years.
Hope she does well but those early starts will hurt.
Maybe she has deal to do other projects too instead of just morning tv

  7. I think kochie and mel are great on that show. yeh they can be quirky sometimes and kochies jokes are lame, but wouldnt u rather watch them than the stiff today show team? The people from sunrise work so well together, with such a natural appearance. the today show is so forced and its obvious they try to copy sunrise, theres no friendly familiar chemistry

  8. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Any chance that contract only lasts a couole of month???

I’m with you Nick, replace Mel with Nat. And Kochie with anybody else and I would actually watch the program!
