Now Seven bones Jessica Rowe

Updated: Jessica Rowe, Seven and the media's love of 'that' word.

UPDATE: A Seven spokesperson has denied media reports about Rowe being sacked, saying she is a freelance newsreader with the network.

Jessica Rowe’s contract hasn’t been renewed by Channel 7 in a move that follows the ‘boning’ incident by Channel Nine.

“After all she had been through, she was eager to return to the familiarity of newsreading and for a while there was popping up everywhere – the afternoon news, morning show panels, even as a newsreader on Sunrise,” a Seven News source told the Daily Telegraph.

“But what she really wanted was a permanent newsreading gig and unfortunately for Jess, Seven has a glut of newsreaders all desperate for a key slot and the executive bosses just don’t have anything for her.”

Network sources have long maintained that Seven hired Rowe as a publicity stunt. She was put on a one-year contract and recruited for the 2007 Dancing With The Stars before being moved into a newsreading role.

Seven boss David Leckie confirmed Rowe’s contract had not been renewed but added there may be some casual newsreading shifts.

  1. agree with ‘Ianblair23’, Rowe made bad choice leaving Ten and going to ‘promised land of milk and honey in Nine’.
Too often in past , these media folks have sold their soul to Nine and regreted it.
Ten might not be fashionable but at least you get airtime and a chance to shine.
If Nine don’t like you, ou get warehoused or stuck on 20-1 making stupid comments or whacked into a lyrca suit for a crappy game show.

  2. I think this is a terrible shame – Jessica is a consumate professional, yet mixes it well placed smiles and warmth. I personally hope to see her back on our screens very soon.

  3. is there a chance that this has happened because she is pregnant and doesn’t have a job so they are just unsigning her for a year or two?
i guess leckie would have said something if that was the case.

it does make me sick when people are paid millions to do nothing (eddie), but i thought jessica was worth holding onto.

  4. I have maintained this position all along – she should of never left Network Ten. She had a nice and stable position in reading the 5pm News in Sydney for ten years and blew it all by going across to Nine. She was an absolute disaster on the Today Show and I applauded McGuire for making the difficult decision in giving her the flick. I am not at all surprised at this latest development in her rapidly declining career.
