Returning: American Idol

FOX8 kicks off Season 8 with a same day broadcast of American Idol, and new judge, songwriter Kara DioGuardi.

The eighth season of American Idol will premiere in a same-day broadcast on FOX8 beginning 7:30pm Wednesday January 14.

Joining the panel of Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul is songwriter/record exec Kara DioGuardi, who co-wrote “Spinning Around” with Abdul. This season also promises to have a “more intimate” and “more raw” feel…whatever that means…

Foxtel will eventually screen two episodes of Idol per week featuring live performances and elimination.

Press Release:
Get ready for the hottest launch of the New Year as reality juggernaut AMERICAN IDOL has its Season Eight World Premiere on Wednesday, January 14 at 7.30pm AEST, exclusive to FOX8.

Airing straight off the satellite on the same day as the US broadcast, just hours after the US premiere goes to air, the two-night, four-hour extravaganza will follow the AMERICAN IDOL team as they scour the country and audition thousands of hopefuls in search of America’s next big recording star.

These hopefuls will be whittled down to a select group of semi-finalists who will sing their hearts out over two nights each week, one of whom will be the ultimate winner of the coveted AMERICAN IDOL title.

Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, Season Eight will feature brand new judge Kara DioGuardi alongside perennial judging team Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson.

DioGuardi joins the judging panel with a wealth of experience – as one of the most highly sought-after songwriters and producers in the United States as well as the VP of Artists & Repertoire at Warner Brothers Records, the hit-maker’s songs have sold over 100 million records and have been recorded by Grammy award-winning artists such as Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Pink and Santana.

This season will also see a return to the show’s roots, with a “more intimate” and “more raw” feel, according to Fox’s president of alternative programming, Mike Darnell.

“It’s going back to letting the kids be more emotional and seeing more of their reality,” he said. “We’re going to allow the public to see a little more of their emotional state.”

The Emmy-nominated series has been responsible for launching the careers of some of the country’s leading recording artists including Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks and Kelly Clarkson.

Season Seven uncovered current reigning Idol champ David Cook. Australia’s own Michael Johns also made it through to be one of the final eight contestants.

  1. be interested to see how this goes this year in the US, Paula Abdul has openly said shes over the whole thing and is only still involved as she is still contracted, also, the only other time 4 judges have been tried was Australian Idol in 2007 and it was a complete disaster! Something tells me this might be the year the bubble bursts on this phenomenon in the states!

  2. I agree Marco – I was so happy when Fox 8 revealed they were airing American Idol – it meant I no longer had to waste my download limit on downloading the eps. Bring on season 8!

  3. Technically the US gets the premiere on January 13, albeit we get it a few hours later on January 14. Really loved getting these quick airings earlier this year on Fox8.
