Returning: Battlefronts

Taken off air after average ratings, Giaan Rooney's makeover series will return with unaired episodes.

Nine’s ‘other’ makeover show, Battlefronts, returns with unaired episodes this month.

Hosted by Giaan Rooney, the series is back 6:30pm Sun Dec 14.

Once again two teams return to makeover neighbouring houses in eight hours for a cash prize.

The show was taken off air after average ratings, which trailed the more emotionally-driven Domestic Blitz.

  1. In response to Benno re why some of these shows work and others don’t. Viewers need at least one of the following to ‘hook’ them to the show;
    good storylines, good script , good casting and a bit of émotion’. Domestic Blitz has all of the above in bundles whilst Battlefronts has none, really poor scripts and unnatural acting which takes you away from the show.

  2. Grand Designs has been pitched to all the networks in Australia, but being the “least adventurous of all TV Networks in the world (American Distributors’ regular comment at MIPCON each year), no-one was willing to pick it up.

    It is largely due to the long production schedule it has. If filming started right now, the earliest it would be on air mid 2010 but more likely early 2011 given that it often takes a year or so for the designs to reach a point where they can be said to be completed.

    It is also to do with the fact, that Australia TV rarely takes risk – hence why we have alot of local versions of overseas shows.

  3. How stupid to bring this back this show has been panned soooo badly by the public. I guess channel nine has already paid for the episodes that remain so they figure they should finish them. After that watch this show will be gone for good. My suggestion would be to put gardeners on that can string a sentance together without looking like they are dancing monkeys. The boys on the black team are super hot, so why are not the girl gardeners, its such a boys club life…..

  4. Would an Australian version of ‘Grand Designs’ be out of the question? Surely one of the Australian networks could muster the courage to use a small film crew to document a handful of innovative homes under construction over a year or so before airing?

    Surely this would fit well with either ABC or Nine’s demographics, and would be a likely high rater (for a low cost production).

  5. The average person would say these shows are the same thing, just like Seven with RSPCA Animal Rescue, Outback Wildlife Rescue and The Zoo. These factual shows must be running out of ideas.
