Obama: TEN telecast / SBS concert

By David Knox on January 17, 2009 / Filed Under Programming 15

More programming news on the Obama Inauguration which takes place early on Wednesday morning (Australian time) with word that Network TEN will screen TEN News Presentation: Inauguration of Barack Obama.

This is an unusual move by TEN, which was the only network the didn’t expand its daytime coverage when Obama won the election. But it will screen extensive coverage beginning at 1:30am Wednesday to 6am.

Nine and ABC will also have live coverage, while SBS has highlights later on Wednesday.

This now leaves Seven -most unusually- as the only network not to declare any dedicated coverage of the event outside of normal programming.

Meanwhile SBS has also added a star-studded concert to its line-up, to screen at 3pm Wednesday.

Special: Obama Inaugural Celebration – Directly following the World News Australia Special: President Obama Inauguration, SBS will screen the historic concert from Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC. This free concert marks the most accessible Inauguration in history. Musical performers scheduled include Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, John Mellencamp, Usher Raymond IV, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, U2 and Stevie Wonder. Among those reading historical passages will be Jack Black, Steve Carell, Rosario Dawson, Jamie Foxx, Tom Hanks, Martin Luther King III and Denzel Washington.

It will be repeated at 10pm Saturday 24th January.

glad 10 did join the party i was going to mostly stick with 9 coz theirs was the longest but 10 had the best picture quality and wasn’t 4×3 so i stayed with it the most, but i did switch a bit coz come of their commentators were boring, one guy in particular and you could tell the others wanted him to be better or shut up.

The actual swearing in is supposed to be around noon Washington time, which is 4 am EDT here, but the festivities start two hours earlier.

    Maybe line up some DVDs.

Ten might finally be realising the value of their CBS deal in building their news content for events like this – its just a pity they didin’t realise that during the election earlier this year.
