Prison Break to end

FOX announces Prison Break will have no more seasons, but promises a few more episodes to wrap the series.

Sadly, here’s a decision I have to agree with.

FOX Network has decided the current fourth season of Prison Break is its last. But there WILL be an ending.

“We’ve got our remaining batch of four episodes and then there are a couple more we’re contemplating,” says network president Kevin Reilly,

He says the four-year old drama has simply run its course. “The show is played out.”

Alas, he’s right. Let’s face it, there isn’t even a prison in the latest series. The whole “scylla” chase is a baffling story-arc, not without its highs and lows sure, but it seems very removed from the original premise no matter how bizarrely they try to tie it in. Frankly, I don’t know why they didn’t do a series where they had to break back IN to a prison. Maybe they felt it was too similar.

I do recall reading an articles many years ago where the writers conceded their show was not likely to have a particularly long life. So they’ve done well to make it this far, really.

Seven has aired the mid-season finale and like the US we’re now all awaiting the last batch of four (or more?) episodes.

“Creatively, everybody feels enough stories have been told. … We want to finish strong and not just gimp out next season. They have a cool ending,” Reilly said.

“I know where they end, and it’s a hell of an idea.”

It returns in the US on April 17.

  1. i love all the seasons of pb but i think that if they didnt end it after the 4th season it would ruin it and i would hate to see that happen.
i have really enjoyed the last 4 years of pb and sad 2 say bye but i always have them on dvd lol

  2. i was expecting it to end this season when it began, it simply had no way to lead into another season and with main characters deaths, michael needing life or death surgery etc it was obvious it wasnt going to continue, who knows maybe they go through a final tunnel and end up on the lost island 😛

  3. Season 4 has been brilliant! My extended family and all their friends all watch it religiously and love it, so it’s definitely doing something right (we’re all in our 30s). It’s a shame it has to end, but at least they’re ending the series on a real high.

  4. I stopped watching at the end of season 3 (which I watched very little of; probably just the last half of eps).

At least they’re not dragging this show on and on like some other shows no matter how rotten the show has become *cough* The Simpsons *cough*

  5. Lost – “you must watch the first five minutes where you guessed it – nothing happens”. After the 10th time I got tricked into thinking some thing was going to happen I switched off.

  6. the new season is actually rather good, but I agree with this decision. hopefully – they can finish the story arc strongly. i liked the fact that they didnt shy away from killing off major characters – but that also made the show rather unpredictable.
