Travolta’s son dies from seizure

16yo son of John Travolta and Kelly Preston dies after an apparent seziure at a family holiday home in the Bahamas.

The son of John Travolta and Kelly Preston, Jett, 16, died in the Bahamas after apparently suffering a seizure and hitting his head at his family’s holiday home.

A house caretaker found him unconscious in a bathroom in the morning. He was taken by ambulance to a Freeport hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Police Superintendent Basil Rahming said in a statement.

The teenager had had a history of seizures, according to the statement. A local police source said Jett apparently hit his head on the bathtub. An autopsy is planned.

Family lawyer Michael Ossi said in a statement that Jett died suddenly on Friday. Publicists Samantha Mast and Paul Block released the statement but could not be reached for additional comment.

Jett was the oldest child of Travolta and Preston, who also have an eight-year-old daughter, Ella Bleu. Travolta found fame in 70’s sitcom Welcome Back Kotter before his film career took off. Preston recently had a a recurring role on Medium and filmed the US pilot of Suburban Shootout, which is yet to be greenlit.

Preston has said that Jett became sick when he was two years old and was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, an illness that leads to inflammation of the blood vessels in young children. She blamed household cleaners and fertilisers, and said a detoxification program based on teachings from the Church of Scientology helped improve his health, according to People magazine.

It is unclear whether Jett was taking any medications for his seizures.

Family friend and Tampa-based lawyer Michael McDermott told the Ocala Star-Banner on Friday that Travolta was “broken up” and noted that “Kelly’s very quiet”.

“Just say a prayer for them,” he added. “That’s all you can do at this point.”

The Scientology Celebrity Center in Los Angeles declined to comment.

  1. “It is unclear whether Jett was taking any medications for his seizures.”

It’s pretty _clear_ that he wasn’t, given John’s status as “poster boy” for Scientology – including their stance on refusing pharmaceuticals of any description. Also convenient that the diagnosis was for a condition that has no clinical/laboratory test – just what the Scientology Doctor ordered, huh.

That said, I have epilepsy and have also lost immediate family: hopefully this tragedy might help John and family “reconsider” their level of commitment to Scientology’s messed-up approach to everything, most of all modern medicine.

  2. This is so sad and my thoughts go out to John and Kelly at this awful time. John is such a cool guy and that something like this should happen to him is terrible.
