Witches of Eastwick pilot announced

America just loves female ensembles these days, so why not turn the 1987 flick into a TV series?

More drama pilots have been announced in the US by two big networks.

ABC: Eastwick, based on the 1987 feature The Witches of Eastwick follows three women in the town of Eastwick who embark upon lives with new powers after an enigmatic stranger comes to town. The story has already become a stage musical, and America just loves female ensembles these days so why not?

It is to be written by Maggie Friedman (Jack & Bobby).

NBC: Mercy is a drama with comedic elements that revolves around three nurses bound together in friendship by the highs and lows of their personal and professional lives. Another female ensemble? Friday Night Lights‘ Liz Heldens wrote the script and will serve as executive producer.

NBC is said to be on the verge of a couple of other drama pilot pickups, with a medical drama Trauma and a project from Jesse Alexander (Heroes, Alias)

  1. I think Eastwick has potential. I have a feeling that it’s a show that I’ll really like but will be cancelled fast. I hope I’m wrong though. We’ll see how the cast turns out though.

Just going by the description of Mercy, it sounds a bit flaky. But we hardly know anything about it yet so hopefully it’ll be good.

  2. And they tried too in 1992
with Julia Campbell (she’s been in ever.eything), Catherine Mary Stewart (last star fighter) and Ally Walker (Profiler)….

  3. will it do any good?
I remember back in 2002 they tried to bring ‘the witches of eastwick’ to TV with the same name..
It too was called ‘Eastwick’ and starred Marcia Cross (Desperate Housewives), Kelly Rutherford (melrose Place) and Lori Loughlin (Full House)
Sexy Chris Evans was in it too….but alas it never made it past a pilot episode.
I hope the ‘New’ version does better.

  4. I guess the success or demise of these shows will depend on the chemistry the leads have with each other. Mercy sounds like Lipstick Jungle in a hospital, though.
