A Tale of Two Shauns

A scheduling conflict means SBS' Newstopia has to make way for TEN's My Generation, because they both use Shaun Micallef.

newstopia-0293The Age notes that a scheduling conflict has claimed Shaun Micallef’s Newstopia on SBS – just as the show was poised for a plum slot in the schedule.

SBS had planned to launch a new season of Newstopia in May straight after new episodes of Top Gear Australia.

But a commitment to Micallef’s new show on TEN, My Generation, has spoiled that plan.

TEN’s show pits celebrity baby boomers against generations X and Y to find out who knows most about the world.

  1. Grrrrrrr!!!! This sucks! Give me Newstopia anyday!!!

Come on, Ten!!! Buy Newstopia!!! It’s a hell of a lot more entertaining than the likes of *cough* Rove and GNW (though I don’t mind the latter).

  2. Am I the only one that thought last year’s final episode of Newstopia felt, well, final? And how is a commitment to hosting a gameshow – a job that even Rove manages to do while still doing a weekly tonight show – enough to block Newstopia? Perhaps Shaun had had enough and this is just a good excuse for moving on.

  3. I came very late to Newstopia but it was one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen – exactly why Ten is wasting Micallef on a panel type show is unknown – they should be harnessing the man’s creative talents.

  4. I wonder whether they are happy with the ratings or know what the ideal timeslot is.

Maybe they thought at 10pm Wednesday, viewers would switch over from ABC’s strong comedy programs like Spicks and Specks and in previous years Gruen Transfer, Chaser, Summer Heights High etc.

It seemed like a good show. But I usually watched “At the Movies” and recorded “Life (ten)” at that time.
