Airdate: 81st Academy Awards

oscarsonredcarpetHas Richard Wilkins been given the shove from the Oscars?

This year Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson will host the Red Carpet action from Hollywood for the 81st Annual Academy Awards. It will screen at 12 midday on Monday February 23rd.

Nine’s broadcast of the awards ceremony begins live at 12:30pm and ends at 4pm. It is the first time in Australia the Oscars have screened live to air (yay!).

Hosted by Hugh Jackman, and with Heath Ledger widely expected to win a posthumous award for The Dark Knight, it should have a dash of Australian flavour.

A 3 hour edition will also air later that night at 9:30pm.

No doubt Nine will also maximise its telecast special with crosses from the Today Show and Mornings with Kerri-Anne too. Maybe Wilkins will still get a guernsey here. He is after all, Nine’s Entertainment Editor.

Nine and WIN both confirm live Oscars in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

Also screening the Oscars live is the MovieExtra network with pre-show events beginning at 10am.

Had the “pleasure” of seeing Richard’s red carpet unedited as it beamed live to Australia. Some of the funniest tv ever. There’s no way he could have hosted a live broadcast. The Nine editor back home deserved a Logie.

Argh that’s the first day of university lectures!
I will be recording it and keeping to myself all day until I get home and watch it. I don’t want anyone to spoil it for me.

I wish I had more leave to take a day off….perhaps we can appeal for a Public Holiday to enable us to watch? :)

Just remember folks, Richard Wilkins is a New Zealander – you can now officially disown him and feel proud again.

Richard will most likely be hosting the “today Show” if Karl and Lisa will be in America doing the oscars, Maybe Richard just wanted a break frorm it or had other committments. I really like Richards’ hard work but I alsolove Karl and Lisa and am looking forward to the oscars even more now!

whatever info richard wilkins was using to blackmail channel nine into letting him perform such a cushy task year after year must now be past its use by date

No more media and internet black out during the day to avoid finding out winners before watching the telecat at night!

Please – just give me the American feed of the red carpet arrivals. I don’t need any Australian doing anything. Grrr.

Nine should allow more time for the live telecast of the Academy Awards, since the ceremony goes for anywhere between 3.5 and 4.5 hours, which means Nine’s coverage could finish as late as 5pm in Sydney and Melbourne! Nine should apply to ACMA for an exemption to not show children’s program at 4pm on February 22, otherwise some of us may not know the winners of best actor, best actress, best director and best movie, all of which are announced in the final hour.
