Applications: Secrets and Lives

Film Victoria forges the biggest factual collaboration undertaken between the state and an Australian broadcaster.

sbs-id1Film Victoria has been very busy this week, joining with SBS to produce a new documentary series titled Secrets and Lives.

Investing half a million dollars in the initiative, it becomes the biggest factual collaboration undertaken between Victoria and an Australian broadcaster. The series is expected to comprise up to 36 half-hour episodes in total, which will generate significant activity for the independent production sector, with up to 18 episodes exclusively using Victorian producers.

A call-out has gone out to independent documentary producers to develop ideas for the new series which will
tackle tough topics by engaging humour.

Sandra Sdraulig, Chief Executive Officer for Film Victoria, was keen to elaborate on the new partnership:
“The initiative presents wonderful professional development opportunities for the entire industry, including new and emerging writers, directors and researchers. In providing these kinds of opportunities to hone specific skills and craft, we aim to enhance the industry’s ability to engage diverse audiences and stimulate highly active and sustainable production companies.

Matt Campbell, Director of Television and Online at SBS said this major factual initiative is a first for Victoria:
“This multi-million dollar injection of funds into Victorian television production by SBS recognises the
contribution the creative talent in that state delivers to the network.

“The Victorian producers, directors, camera people and editors in the factual production community are lynchpins in SBS’s plans to deliver more innovative, exciting, powerful and credible factual programming to our audiences.”
