Call for Entries: AWGIEs

The country's top prizes for screenplays are again looking for the best of the best.

keysThe Australian Writers’ Guild is now calling for entries for scripts in television, film, stage radio and new media for its annual AWGIE Awards. The awards are considered the top accolades for screenplays in Australia. Scripts, which must be submitted by writers should have been produced between 1 January and 31 December 2008.

As always the judges reward the written script, the writer’s intention, rather than the finished production.

AWG President Tim Pye says that “Once again the AWGIE Awards will recognise the extraordinary wealth of performance writing talent in Australia and the great works of imagination, craft and skill that have been created by our members over the past year.”

There are over $100,000 in special prizes and fellowships including the $25,000 Foxtel Fellowship for television writers. Last year’s Major AWGIE was awarded to Peter Gawler, Greg Haddrick and Felicity Packard for Underbelly.

And the AWG’s also recognise emerging talent for unproduced scripts by an associate member of the Guild.

For entry forms and more information, including special prizes and fellowships, go to www.awg.com.au. Entries close 5.00pm, Friday 6 March 2009.

The 42nd AWGIE Awards will be presented in Sydney on Friday 28 August 2009.
