Thanks David, I’ll put the BT aside for the time being
I guess the next question is are they going to be one ep behind until Dave has a re-run week? and when will “Chris Russo, the Jonas Brothers, Ashford & Simpson” ep air and WTF happened, did someone at ch10 just grab the wrong tape?
I was bored with Gangs of Oz so 5 minutes in I switched over to House (which I saw before xMas) then watched Life.
Lost was good, just wish ch7 showed 2 eps like the US, we are now a month behind, and I noticed they have dropped the 2008 catch cry or ‘fast tracking’ shows and promoting them as such. I’m having a hard time to think of a single show that is now aired in the same week as the US, not including Letterman.
Those Mentalist ratings aren’t good and Flashpoint’s are dreadful. AGT is a very consistent and solid performer – beating FWaW and Dance by several hundred thousand – but I prefer Dance. Biggest Loser should be doing better in total people as this is close to BB’s figures last year. Hate seeing Gangs of Oz do so well.
TEN confirms that Letterman ep will now air Friday night at 10:30.
i can say dance won in 16.39 and 18-49, house won the same and biggest loser won in the 16.39
Flashpoint is a great show, I’ve been watching it since it started in the us and i’m loving it but i’m not suprised it didn’t pull very big numbers here, especially with channel nine’s pathetic handling of the show.
They’ve shown every episode so far out of order:
s01e05
s01e04
s01e07
s02e01
and next week s01e01
It’s dissapointing that channel nine ruined any chances of it succeeding from the very beginning, it feels like a group of monkeys are running nine sometimes.
I think people are jumping the gun in saying that dance and BL aren’t working. What are the demos like? David, are you able to provide any of the demos for the networks, even just how they did for the night? I say this because increasing evidence suggests that total viewership is meaningless to the success of a show nowadays – except when nine tries to disguise their desire for demos while really trying to beat 7 in the biggest ego match of the year for an outdated perception that total viewership is the utopia of success.
There was a funny scene on the show which sounded like what you were describing, Jed.
I think Dance would be doing better without the fires.. its only auditions anyway. Sunday it should easily top 1.2 million. At least! If it doesnt, TEN are in deep.
The fires are stealing heaps of TEN/9 viewers.. 7′s killing everybody at the moment!
lol, i know david, ita a mad house, except on ten:) cheers for that update on the news coverage man:)
Jed – you watched Seinfeld lately?
No Benno. I hate Seinfeld. Why?
SYTYCD and Biggest Loser are not doing well for 10. Will House be moving to 8.30 next week now that SYTYCD auditions are finished? If so that’s great, but i wonder if it will still be getting the good ratings its getting now. I’ve decided to watch House this year, and watch Spicks and Specks on ABC2 thursday.
I love Lost, but is anyone just as confused and a little annoyed about how its going now?
While ever channel 9 insist on running programs up to 15 minutes late of program time and do not update EPGs and other guides to reflect this, not one show is going to work on well on ch 9, especially since there is zero flow on between shows where one show is nothing like the next, etc. The ratings tell the story.
Bush fire coverage cannot be an excuse as this happens all the time regardless of news.
I’ve taken another look at figures based on later info and it seems Seven News was divided into two half hours, one at 6pm and then at 6:30pm. This is despite an amendment subtitling its 4:30 News “Extended Bushfire Coverage.” So the figure of 1,544,00 is Seven News 6:30-7pm.
And you reckon I’m not confused this week!
that 4.30 news thing must b wrong cause ten and other sites claim ten won in total people from 5-6 in their news
I would have thought the ratings for the extended 7 news was for 6.30, as it was on at 6pm as usual, extended for an extra 30min and then Today Tonight was on at 7pm with no Home and Away last night. It makes no sense that around 1.5 million watched the news at 4.30 then went walk about for 30min while Deal was on and came back to watch the usual stuff at 6pm, call me crazy or correct.
Yeah where was Letterman??? It was a year old repeat!!!
Yes what happened to Hudson Flight 1549 crew episode on David Letterman last night?
I flicked over to ch9 at about 8.45pm last night while watching a movie, just to see if nine overran, and the Mentalist had just started. What a way to retain viewers. Not.
it that the for real total for flashpoint or was it not shown in some markets. i would have chosen flashpoint over gangs and life but i wasn’t watching tv. 669k thats just about what 24 got over 2 hours until 11:30 last week and everyone was saying how terrible that did.
something seriously needs to be done about the mentalist’s timeslot. at this rate it could probably score so much better at 9:30 just so long as it is out of fire from CM and house. they are to established and strong.
AGT is proving to be one tuff nut. its quite a good little watch everyone should give it a go.
Great to see House was the #1 show in the under 55 demos & got 1m +. It’s rising in the states and looks like it is here as well. It’s clearly the best show on tv right now and deserves to do well. Last nights ep was one of the best I’ve seen just brilliant tv.
The Farmer Wants A Wife did alright and beat AGT in all the important demos so Nine would be happy with that especially as this show traditionally rates better as it goes.
ch9 is pushing s*** up a hill with the mentalist at 8:30Wed. the ratings aren’t going anywhere no matter what they do. putting it there in the first place, many people agreed, was one of the worst moves of 2008. but we kind of understood because no one knew how viewers would react. the new year lineup gave the opportunity for a fresh start and they threw it away, so no sympathy there. flashpoint will definitely become 9′s 6th show of the ratings season to be axed. and i’m sure 9 will be disappointed with farmer as well. i think they thought it was going to set the ratings on fire. but cold case did ok for 10:30.
gangs, house, life and lost both pulled good numbers and should be safe in their slots. especially lost as the promotion it only really started on tuesday.
what’s that figure for Cold Case David? Surely it wasn’t shown here in Sydney last night due to the Nine news special bulletin right after Flashpoint.
actually last night here in perth the 7 news went past 6.30 aswell as 9, 10 stayed the same it has all week and went straight to simpsons at 6
that seriously cant be rite, 4.30 news getting that result, what about the days before, 400-500,000 i think a mistake has happened. so does that mean on monday’s extended edition it was 4.30 aswell?
i cant wait till all of this is over!! then we can see really what australia like to watch.
In regards to my earlier post, I now realise those numbers for Cold Case are actually for a late night 9 News bulletin.
But still Cold Case did very well in that 10.30 timeslot last week. IMO it would be doing much better than Flashpoint at 9.30.
1,544,000 for the 4:30 news. well that is impressive. not far behind the 6:00 news i wonder where those people came from.
Lost is one of the best shows on tv and 7 hasn’t even promoted the new season. Nuts! The Mentalist and Biggest Loser deserve to be doing better. Flashpoint should be axed soon, with a bit of luck.
well hasn’t AGT been a silent achiever, its been thrown up against 3 high profile shows over 2 weeks (blitz, farmer, dance) and is still powering out. sure its a bit lower than last year but from memory the tuesday competition was very weak and the audience grew over the weeks.
i do not see what people see in criminal minds to me it seems nothing more special than all the other CBS crime shows. but it sure is making a mess of the competition.
ten has had a bit of a quiet week so it’s good to see house still pull a decent crowd. and life did ok as well beating flashpoint.
I thought UB was good though the storyline doesn’t look as strong as Series 1. There were some minor errors in the filming, the best being the races which were quite clearly showing Emirates signage even though there was little race sponsorship in the ’70s and Emirates didn’t exist.
I could not believe that Customs show. I know 9 is short of money but overdubbing a British series with an Australian voice is seriously cheap!! You’d expect this from Channel 10.
Packed to the Rafters was soft but it was up against the cricket that garnered 1.5M viewers. Next week will be a better indication.
Tonight will be interesting with Ch.9 having the Telethon from 7.30 up against the second half of the Home & Away double episode.
At this stage Ch 9 look like winning the week but given they have been strongly supported by one-offs such as ther telethon and cricket (about to finish), not to mention the distortion caused by the shifting schedules this week, it may not be a good indication of how the next few months will pan out
Amended: Seven Extended Bushfire News was 6.30-7pm, clearly there is still enormous interest.
Disapointing that Channel Ten didn’t show the Hudson Flight 1549 crew episode of David Letterman last night. I flicked over to Arena later and they had that episode. Why are Ten showing repeats when there are new episodes?
Cold Case and Flashpoint need to be switched around. 1 show is quality, and 1 is not. 1 show’s ratings are excellent for it’s timelot, the other’s are tragic. Wake up channel 9! Farmer Wants a Wife didn’t seem to fire last night, nore did SYTYCD for that matter.
The Mentalist just got over 19mill in the US last night, yet here it pulls in under 1m and 4th place. If this wasn’t messed around with numerous timeslots it could have been a huge rater.
Talent seems to be holding it’s numbers, with Criminal Minds winning it’s timeslot. Gangs of Oz didn’t exactly fire though.
cold case and flashpoint???? very low numbers!
what will 9 do??
I’m not used to watching lost once a week – i watched the first 4 seasons on DVD, but an excellent site called ‘lostpedia’ can help clear confusion. Of course you would have to be up to date with US airings in order to not be spoiled.
The 7 news extended fire bulletin – when exactly did that slot in, as TT was still in schedule?
Wow, those are pretty low numbers for The Mentalist and Flashpoint. Sorry Nine…
Looks like the ratings are starting to settle a little, think by next week we will have a better indication of how the networks are truely performing. Over the last couple of nights I’ve been watching more Ten and ABC then normal, they seem to be the taking less advantage of the terrible disaster that has happened. Congrats to both their news services as well, it’s good to be able to know other things are happening in the world as well.
I watched Gangs of Oz last night as well, not really sure what to think! don’t know if we really need this type of stuff on TV, but it is interesting at the same time. Scary to think people like that are out there and using actual footage really makes you sit back. I’ll probably watch it again but not sure if I can bare to watch it every week, I think I like light entertainment better or fictional stuff, I call it escapism from the real world.
Not sure to make of Lost’s ratings, is that good for that time of night? I’m sticking with the show, I know a lot of people have given up because they’re not sure what is happening any more but I can follow it and have never missed an episode. I’m guessing seven will stay with the show until it’s finished.
Hey Irishbabe, you need to to be a bit more open minded and not think “conspiracy theory” in reports which question current knowledge of Britt Lapthorne’s disappearance. It seems your more concerned with the show and 7 in general than the story. What a shame!!!!!!
Spunkymonkeycaesar, blah..blah..blah… are there any other 9 shows you wish to praise whilst your at it??? Maybe Guthy or Danoz lololol.
Brodie is correct. I have said previously that they results this week are out of whack. Over-runs and “specials” have to be considered so stop wasting your time with your comments and wait till things settle down.
Jed – you watched Seinfeld lately?
I also forgot to say, Dexter is likely to be axed either this week or the next, or perhaps moved after Rove to 10pm Sundays. 470k is nowhere near enough to maintain a primetime slot, even Supernatural was getting higher numbers. I expect SN to come back in its place soon.
Irishbabe, grow up. From a man’s perspective, we ain’t that precious that we can’t handle a little joke about a man’s little one. That joke gets made every time a man gets his bits wet. Man goes in water – man comes out of water – someone says it must becold in there – everyone laughs. Big deal.
And the Sunday Night program said it was not suicide, or an accident. Im sure those 2 things would have been investigated by police, and the program was simply stating that it was not either of them, but murder, and here’s the proof. I though the investigation was extraordinary, shocking, well researched, and informative. I applaud them for the story. It gave answers and raised new questions that haven’t been asked before and probably should have.
nah there are 2 ryans here, i will put mine with a cp from now on.:)
The Today show actually run right through to 11am, so those figures for Kerry Anne are actually for the extended Today coverage. That means The Morning Show actually almost beat Today! (Sunrise run through to 9.30)
*Congrats to Kerri Anne in beating The Morning Show, even though I know she does occassionally (shame not always).
I agree with everyones comments concerning Tracy Grimshaw and her coverage of the bushfire disaster – She is one in my opinion one of our best and most likeable television personalties / presenters. Shame though, as I think Knoxoverstreet commented, she hasn’t been given a better vehicle, however then again, there isn’t anyone I’d want to inflict the pain of hosting and putting their name to A Current Affair or Today Tonight. With that said though, atleast she gives A Current Affair a tad more credibility in comparison to her competition. Good on ya Trace, keep up the great work, and keep trying to convince the Nine execs to make A Current Affair a more credible and less fluff program.
Congrats to firstly to A Current Affair for last nights figures considering it wasn’t shown in the Sydney market (and perhaps even the Melbourne market?), congrats secondly to Nine News in beating Seven News in Sydney and by quite a margin (hopefully that’s a sign of ratings to come…) and thirdly congrats to Kerri Anne in beating The Morning Show, even though I know she does occassionally (shame).
And as far as Packed to the Rafters goes, it’ll be interesting to see if the honeymoon period is over, I’ve honestly never thought much of that show, it’s so basic and boring in my opinion, with the quality being far less superior in comparison to the best show on TV McLeod’s Daughters – Shame on you Nine for axing such a great Aussie show, but congrats to all the actors and personalities over its 8 seasons for making it the most enjoyable series ever!
I believe these are the lowest ratings yet for PTTR and FMF. Clearly the cricket got a big chomp of its viewers. However, it didn’t seem to affect NCIS and Lie to Me, and with those two and Bondi TEN are going from strength to strength, which hopefully is sustained throughout the year. Eli Stone is going great guns at 10:30 – it seems to have a solid core audience. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen KAK beat The Morning Show at all since I found this site – so “Go Kerri-Anne!” and “Sorry Larry!” LOL
Jerome, question for you: How would you like it if your genitals and the size were humilated on national television?! As a woman, I know it is (in a way) a natural instinct / concern, however that comment cannot be excused! Such a comment can not be justified when it demeans some innocent man, and when it is completely irrelevant! Oh, and that’s not just the entire reason I completely boycott the show, I absolutely despise Andrew O Keefe and his poor conduct during last weekends edition of Weekend Sunrise is an example of what I am talking about; trying to make a joke out of a completely serious matter!
And Jerome for your information, I watched Sunday Night in it’s entirety last week, and was absolutely appauled! How thick can people be?! – I know the bloody report was an investigation into the disappearance of Britt Lapthorne, and her subsequent death, however the fact that the report even mentioned the possibility of suicide or an accident as the cause of Britt’s death is what disgusts me and many others (as I have previously mentioned, it wasn’t only myself who was offended and who therefore holds the same views). And Tommyk, I don’t believe any Australian would have not known about Britt Lapthorne’s disappearance, considering it was not only splashed across TV screens, and news and current affairs, magazines, newspapers, the internet and even world news! And my other gripe is that Chris Bath made a special effort of saying “we can now reveal” considering it was not at all a new finding Britt’s death wasn’t as a result of suicide, or an accident!
Are all the Ryan comments from the same person or from different ones? And I think this is the beginning of a slump for PTTR that it might not recover from. That said, its still great at beating the competition, holding off NCIS and wiping the floor with 2.5 men. And that Customs show has got to go, why would any loser watch that rubbish?
im so not interested in kerri anne or the morning show! kerri anne is so cheap looking but atleast its better than the morning show! the morning show is jam packed full of crap and shitty segments, their segments are too short and they focus on nothing topics. 9am with david and kim are the best! kim is hot! david is funny. the show has good size segments on important things in our life everyday. adam richard is hilarious and tells it how it is on celebs.
Good number for Lie To Me and NCIS, a slight drop from last weeks number for Lie To Me but at least its been consistent in its first two weeks. Packed To The Rafters usually scores higher, odd.. Bondi Rescue has surprised me, fantastic number for TEN in the 7.30pm slot.. Biggest Losers numbers are down.
Go Kerrie-Anne! Well Done.
For those wondering why 9 beat 10, the cricket actually got 1.45 mill, according 7′s and 9′s ratings report, although as David said numbers will change.
Great numbers for ACA considering it wasnt shown in Sydney, and i dont know about Melboure, but here are the news ratings, and yes 9 news did win in Melbourne and Sydney
Seven: 1,677,000 (S: 436,000; M: 475,000)
Nine: 1,503,000 (S: 462,000; M: 477,000)
I thought Bondi Rescue might of went down but it held up preety well which i’m happy with. I hope ten can keep it up for the whole year because there’ve started really well and it wont be just about 7 and 9 all the time. Keep up the good work David, Great site!!!
Packed to the rafters honeymoon may be coming to an end… NCIS for me
that makes me more nervous considering as i said ten won 8pm onwards till 12 then beatng 9 and 9 only had 6-8. yes slaughtered them in share
i fully agree, i cant go by these ratings until the fires and extended stories are all over. and its starting to annoy me! how we keep seeing the same stories over and over and over, we dont need to see the same content its depressing!!! all we need are updates!
A weak episode of Packed To The Rafters last night. I like the show but have always feared that the storylines could get a little silly the more the show goes on.
Due to the bushfires dominating the news and also the cricket still on, I dont think we can read into any of ratings until everything settled down. The ratings seem to be all over the place.
Ryan think of the night as 6pm -11:59pm the Share is the average audience of this time parameter.
Interesting to see that Packed To The Rafters is down 200,000 from last week. Is this the beginning of the inevitable slide??
Nice to see NCIS/Lie To Me still doing well.
@JB: RSPCA animal rescue was not on last night due to extended news and Home and Away being on at 7.30.
Actually pretty good figures for ACA considering it wasnt shown in Sydney…. and is it true that Nine News in Sydney and Melbourne won last night? or is the figure not adjusted?
i dont understand how 9 could beat ten. they only beat them from 6-8pm then 10 leads them onwards
good to see pttr going down!! the show is getting so boring, i much prefer ncis
I was happy to see that Lie To Me held up well from it’s initial success last week, Bondi Rescue is also doing well, which is good to see.
I agree with everyone about Tracey Grimshaw, I really like her. She did go through a period of looking like a bit of a clown last year, her hair was all over the place and way too much makeup but I think she has overcome that. I really use to like her on the Today show and when she left I no longer bothered watching it, that and the fact that Karl is on there now as well. I just wish ACA would go back to the quality show it use to be, instead of producing gimmicky rubbish stories. Please get back to professional journalism.
Oh! and I still can’t stand Matthew Newton, my eyes are still recovering from that hideous nude scene the other night, I’m trying to think happy thoughts to remove it from my memory!
David (or anyone else) – just a quick question regarding figures for Ten news on Monday night – Do you think that the extra half hour of the bulletin (Ten had extended news coverage from 5-6.30pm) explains the increase in figures? Having said that, I understand that the reason for the extended coverage (i.e. the bushfire crisis) also probably had an impact. Maybe Ten should try a regular one and half hour news bulletin every night (including its sports news) with more in-depth news coverage and reports – it could solve the problems it’s having with trying to find good lead in programs to support it’s nightly programming.
Where is RSPCA Animal Rescue, or have I missed something?
Adjusted and final figures are in for Monday night:
1 Underbelly: A Tale Of Two Cities -Ep1 Nine 2,582,000
2 Underbelly: A Tale Of Two Cities -Ep2 Nine 2,397,000
3 Seven News Seven 1,694,000
4 Customs Nine 1,671,000
5 Today Tonight Seven 1,502,000
6 Nine News Nine 1,465,000
7 Two And A Half Men Nine 1,277,000
8 A Current Affair Nine 1,254,000
9 Ten News At Five Ten 1,226,000
10 7.30 Report ABC1 1,208,000
Great numbers for NCIS and Lie to Me. Good to see Packed to the Rafters falling, cant stand that show and dont know how people can like it. Lie to Me is also seriously affecting All Saints, although that show is no where as good as it used to be. I agree with those who say that Tracey Grimshore is the best covering the fires, she is deffinitly one of my favourite TV personalities.
Quite an intricate storyline for Underbelly to weave, it seemed as though they were desperate to get every thing across in the first 2 hours, I expect it to go up a gear from next week. Interesting comment from Nick – is that an opinion purely based on total people numbers, problem with FTA is that very rarely can you combine critical success with huge ratings, Underbelly IMO has done this. Let’s be honest most critically acclaimed shows wouldn’t last a week on commercial prime time FTA….too cerebral to attract a bulk number. I mean Sea Patrol, All Saints, City Homicide etc all very banal and formulaic.
Just calling them as I see them benno
As for Customs as I assume you were referring to me I don’t see it as any different to BS. Both are mildy entertaining as background tele if there’s nothing else on but I wouldn’t go out of my way to watch either.
And lol @ knoxoverstreet, you’re not even trying to conceal your bias anymore. Calling them ’7 fanboys’. If you want to be taken seriously, turn on the critical light for channel nine every once in a while, unless there’s a conflict of interest…What’s that saying about the black kettle?
How can anyone genuinely say that Border Security is BS yet Customs is a good show?
Agreed I’m a big fan of Trace & she doesn’t come across as fake like so many personalities from both 7 & 9. She deserves far better then hosting rubbish like ACA.
Are all Customs Episodes based on the british customs?
Watched ACA with Tracy Grimshaw on Monday and she is so far the best i have seen in covering the fires. As always so natural and honest.
David I agree Dexter is great, I’ve seen S3 already, just a pity ch10 took so long to show it and hope they stick with it even it it’s moved to another night.
Isn’t it still bad if Nine can only find success in cricket and Underbelly? I think a network should have a few more hits . Nine will be all “oh we broke the record, Australia’s Favourite show blah blah, but ya aint got anything else guys so i wouldn;t brag too much!! I also realised they actually don’t have a decent consistant aussie series like seven has with all saints, city homicide, H&A and the newer packed to rafters, (Underbelly & Sea patrol are miniseries I believe ).
All those people watching Underbelly for the boobies – you have heard of the internet and porn haven’t you?
“If Underbelly were on 7 they’d be raving about it.” I actually agree with knoxoverstreet. Underbelly is fantastic and is the pinnacle of Australian drama – I, and two and a half million other Australians agree (I even watched the second hour instead of B&S because it was so good). Everyone is entitled their own opinion of the networks but there is no doubt that amongst the darkness UB is Nine’s shining light – for quality and, clearly, ratings. Just on the other programs, pity that DH didn’t hold up as well as I thought it would, and *aargh!* to that 1.5 mill that wacthed Customs!
Loved Underbelly, i missed the first season but i thought that last night it was the best Oz drama that i have ever seen, although i havent seen a great deal. I would like to commend the networks, in particular 9 as i watched them, for their excellent coverage of the bushfires.
Go Ten News at Five – over a mil and Ten’s number one show for the night!
When you include the regionals it peaked at almost 4 million.
Agree edu Customs was not too bad although it’s not something I’d usually watch. A bit strange that the customs guy would admit he was trying to get his first bust.
