When George met Tony

Sunday night George Negus meets Tony Blair. Hopefully it goes down better than his interview with Maggie Thatcher.

datelinegnSBS’ current affairs show Dateline, which screened on a new night last Sunday, will next week feature an interview between George Negus and Tony Blair in London. Hopefully it goes down better than his interview with Maggie “Give me their names” Thatcher.

Video Journalist Amos Roberts goes inside the New York City school system that’s been hailed by Education Minister Julia Gillard as a possible model for Australian public education.

What was once one of New York’s worst ghetto schools, have seen dramatic changes that have led to a 95% graduation rate for students.

But critics like education researcher Jennifer Jennings aren’t so sure it’s a perfect model.

“I think if you were under the impression that there was going to be a miraculous rebirth of your schools, as a function of looking at a lot of the public relations from New York City, you’d end up with quite a disappointed education minister,” she said.

Also on the program, Walkley Foundation Young Journalist of the Year for 2008, Sophie McNeill travelled to the Pakistan to file a story on the future direction of the country.

Dateline airs 8:30pm Sunday on SBS.
