As expected, Chuck Lorre’s Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory have been given long renewals by CBS.
Two and a Half Men has a three-season pickup which keeps it on air its ninth season in 2011-12 season. The Big Bang Theory has scored two more seasons to 2010-11.
It follows a legal spat between CBS and Warner Bros after the latter filed a US$49 million suit arguing that CBS refused to pay sums it had agreed to hand over to the studio if Two and a Half Men turned into a hit.
Terms of a settlement haven’t been revealed but CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler said, “Our collaboration with Warner Bros. and Chuck Lorre for these two series has been very good business for CBS.
“With these shows firmly in place, CBS is well positioned for more comedy success in the years ahead.”
The Nine Network would be well-placed to continue profiling Big Bang Theory given its bright future. Two and a Half Men is a show that it couldn’t get to work until it left it on air over summer. The same outcome it found with Frasier.

Here is one nobody has thought of…What about Two and a Half Women!!!
Better yet send the show to the scrapheap.
What Nine needs is a home grown Australian Family Friendly Sitcom like what we had with My Two Wives,All Together Now and the Bob Morrison show but updated to make it relevant for todays generation.
Three Men wouldn’t be a bad name and being back Rose and we can rename it Three Men and a Stalker!!!!!
I wish BBT would be on throughout the year instead of just the summer holidays. I like 2 1/2 men but I’d rather just see the new episodes. I’m getting so sick of the repeats, especially since only the same ones are being selected.
I really like both these shows – and like many people, I prefer the Big Bang Theory over 2.5 Men. I’m not a huge fan of HIMYM so I don’t really care what happens with that.
The BBT on the train ep was LOL
GS Summer Glau as herself, you can just imagine what the geeks thought.
Both terribly unfunny shows. Nine seasons for 2.5 men. How? Why?
I wish 9 would air The Big Bang Theory not just as a summer show.
Two and a half men, yeah i think it’s quite terrible,.
Big Bang Theory is quite funny though, expected to hate it.
I do quite like HIMYM, didn’t expect to like that either, but yeah that should have a fair bit of life in it.
I hope 30 rock gets renewed.
Ohhhh nooooo! Think of the children!!!!
I am obviously very out of tune with the wider public, this is terrible news.
Cheers,
Teddy Bär
Maybe 2.5 Men will end when the kid turns 18?
I’m with RichoTB on HIMYM……
The show is just legen-wait for it, apologies to those lactose intolerent-dary.
I was actually worried ted was going to marry that chick, and hey presto-that was himym, end of series :). Long may the show keep rolling.
“And a loud cheer comes out of the channel 9 programming office.”
You mean, someone actually works there?
Why do all the really bad comedies get renewed for more than 2 seasons, when the better funny shows & excellent dramas get less than 3 seasons?.
Dont’ sweat it about HIMYM. It’s doing better than BBT if that’s any indication. It’s a lock for at least another season. I heard the producers are giving us another piece of the ‘mother’ mystery at the end of the season.
So hopefully Channel 9 finally give TBBT a lengthy try…
With 2.5 Men and Frasier ch9 still have not learned a thing.
I’ll continue getting Big Bang ‘else where’ each week.
And a loud cheer comes out of the channel 9 programming office.
More Two and a Half Men? The morons have spoken.
Yay I love these shows.
I wonder how long 2.5 men will go for considering the kid looks around 14-15yrs old now.
2 and 1/2 Men? Groan…
Because it’s sadly been going on for so long, shouldn’t it now be 3 Men? The kid is getting old.
just makes me wish more that big bang was still on nine.
They should do the same for HIMYM and RoE, those are way funnier sitcoms IMO
