Multichannelling: March update

It's March and ONE is coming. Just don't tell Seven and Nine.

onehd-logo3We’re now into the third month of 2009, so it’s time to monitor that ongoing question….

We still have no clarity on Seven and Nine’s plans for multi-channelling.

January 1 was the date that our three commercial FTA networks could broadcast their secondary digital signal, but we’re still waiting to hear what plans they have. As we know they had an eternity to prepare for this.

With the launch of ONE on March 26, TEN arrives at its permanent set up of programming for two digital and one high definition channel (it’s four channels are in a transition period right now before it settles on 3). Enjoy the last few days of your favourite TEN shows in high def while you can, guys.

Meanwhile, Seven and Nine tell us nothing.

In February David Leckie said Seven would make its plans clearer “in the next month.” He indicated the network plans to get something up and running by mid year. Of course last year he also said Sunday Night would launch before the end of the year. So don’t hold your breath.

Meanwhile, opinions on Freeview continue to spiral into madness.

  1. That video was spot on.
When digital T V was first annouced in 2001 i was excitedly looking forward to it.Now eight years down the track and still nothing.Seems seven and nine don’t share the enthusiasim as the viewing public, after all i suppose its nothing in it for them.

  2. hahhaha that video is gold!

and 7 & 9 dont give a damn about ‘trainwreck’ why do you think nothings happened with thier channels yet.. Even today 7HD played a B&W midday movie that wasn’t even widescreen!

  3. OMG lol it seemed real and then i started to doubt it and then i knew it was fake.

but 10/10. How come the voice is the same. wont that voiceover guy get like fired?

  4. The Ford ad is from Europeand months older than the Freeview ad . You’ll notice the standard “local models shown…” at the bottom of the screen.

  5. “January 1 was the date that our three commercial FTA networks could broadcast their secondary digital signal”

Actually, January 1 was the date the commercial channels could launch their *third* digital channels, having been allowed completely independent secondary channels (on HD) since the start of 2007. And look how far they’ve come.

  6. ive said on tv tonight before that i wish tens hd channel would be a mix of one and ten, but guys get over it, now when freeview was lanch they said that it was to compete again foxtel, now to do that u need a sport, news, lifestyle, docs, kids, music and more entertment channiels(like fox8) channel tens giving is a sport channel, channel 7 giving us a lifestyle/docs channel but i dont think it can reallu compete to the likes of descovery, nat go, lifestyle channel but if thats all u watch on foxtel it may save u 50 bucks or so

  7. Love the vid…well done guys. I may be in the minority but I say well done to Ten on giving us another (and different!) channel…but then again, I love my sport.

  8. Hey Dan Ilic and I made the video, and we just wanted to say a big thanx to everyone for the kind comments about it, you can see a whole 50-mintues of that kind of awesomeness in melbourne come april for the comedy festival. pls come along.

  9. Lets not forget that alternative programming on 7HD was launched without warning last year. Maybe Seven will do the same thing again with their additional digital channel. Maybe!

  10. But Ten’s problem concerns CanWest. Unlike John West, Westco, Jeanswest, Bankwest, Lotterywest, Qwest, West Ryde, Western Australia or of course 10’s demographic, Western Sydney, CanWest is in serious financial problems.

As soon as CanWest goes belly up, Ten will be sold in a firesale.

I’ll take my tuna in denim please!

  11. sports you never heard of (what like cricket, swimming and car racing), and i do like a-pac but the rest of the ad is spot (especially about nine being 20 minters late) lol at the pic of kerrie an on hd
