Seven wins fourth ratings week

Seven finds its family night on Tuesdays helps push the network to its fourth straight win in weekly ratings but Nine takes 3 key demos.

jtThe Seven Network has won its fourth straight week of ratings in 2009.

Seven finished the week with 29.4% share ahead of Nine’s 27.8% and TEN’s 21.5%. The ABC had 16.0% and SBS 5.3%.

So far this year Seven has four weekly wins to Nine’s one.

But all is not doom and gloom for Nine which won three key demographics: 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

Seven won all 5 cities and took out Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, with Nine winning Monday and Thursday. Saturday was a close tussle with less than 5% between four networks.

But it was Seven’s Tuesday powerhouse of RSPCA Animal Rescue, Find My Family, Packed to the Rafters and All Saints that blew the competition out of the water with a 10% share over its rivals.

Underbelly was again the week’s top show, still charged with 2.26m viewers while Packed to the Rafters (1.81m), NCIS (1.40m), Spicks and Specks (1.15m) and Top Gear (931,000) were tops for Seven, TEN, ABC and SBS.

  1. I see Today Tonight, sorry Sunday Night, isn’t rating very well on sunday nights. I wonder if poor Mike knew what would happen to the quality after five weeks.

  2. Underbelly seems to skip over the dramatic bits. When the couple were killed at the end of last ep, we didn’t see any of it. They should have shown the couple walking in, sitting down, having a drink, then shot – build the suspense a la sopranos. Underbelly 2 is not as gripping as the first one. However, there is nothing esle on so people keep watching. Even though i’m a red blooded guy, if I see that blonde girl’s breasts one more time I will scream.

  3. lol! It makes me laugh the amount of people on here critersising Underbelly 2!

Its the most watched Aussie drama of all time! And easily the most sucsessful show of 2009! However I think if Nine want to overtake Seven, they need to come up with their own version of PTTR. A family show, with a comedy, drama genre, that has talented actors and is cleaverly scripted. In a way Nine had that in McLeod’s daughters. (If Nine hadn’t messed the show around so much and not hasitly axed it last year I reckon it could still be around today). I think what Nine needs is a country drama about a family, similar to always Greener or McLeod’s- that would defenetly work.

  4. Although true KT, important demographic figures always skew young, as that is where the money is. Winning 55+ is nothing to gloat about, hence channel seven ‘winning’ Sundays for example, and coming last in the demographics.

  5. With reference to Nine winning the three key demographics: 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54….

As these categories overlap significantly and therefore difficult to interpret, wouldn’t it be more meaningful to include separate demographics for each age group such as 16-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, 65+

Perhaps more meaningful data could be extrapolated which may mean that CH 9 may be reduced to winning fewer key demographics.

  6. Thats expected. Im not interested in who wins everyweek anymore, Im more interested to see how the other networks went. I think without Rafters there’ll be more competition and NCIS will take charge on Tuesdays for TEN. Rafters will be back before the end of the year though.

  7. Sorry still find it hard to believe figures for Underbelly – when i click over from Housewives or GNW – All i see is nudity for sake of nudity.
There is no reason for it, what story there is is fiction, it certainly is not the truth as Nine tries to keep telling us.Can’t even decide which book to base each episode on and the acting is woeful.
No wonder the Kiwis are laughing at the accents – imagine Paris Hilton trying to do an Aussie accent.
Seven just seems to have more decent shows out there than Nine or is it Nine still has noidea how to programme shows (Fringe,Survivor,Flashpoint etc..

  8. I agree it will be harder without PTTR bulling those kinds of numbers for 7 on Tuesdays but I don’t think it’s a lost cause at this point. Plus we have to remember UB has a limited run and will not be back until 2010 for it’s 3rd season while PTTR will be back before the end of the year.

  9. Seems like the prediction Ten was dead and buried at the start of the year is not true, they’re back to the ratings from 2007/08. Hardly a backlash from going to sport HD is it?

  10. 7 will probably start losing weeks or closing the gap once PTTR is over and underbelly continues (5 weeks). so it’s good their getting some good wins under their belt now.

but i doubt 9 will win many weeks by 2-3% so 7 should hold their year’s lead through it all.

then underbelly will end and 7 can just cruise.
