Former Neighbours star Anne Charleston has been told by ITV that her character in Emmerdale, Lily Butterfield, will be written out of the series within months.
The 66-year-old actress said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playing Lily for the last couple of years, but have agreed with the producers that the time is right for me to move on.”
“I’ve a couple of projects in the pipeline that I am now looking forward to enormously,” she said.
One Emmerdale source said Charleston was determined that her exit from the show “be as exciting as possible”.
After leaving Neighbours she filmed Dossa and Joe alongside Michael Caton and departed Australia. She moved back to the UK where she worked on several TV shows, including Crossroads, and joined Emmerdale in 2006.

Anne’s talents were wasted at Emmerdale, she can do far better!
With Australian drama doing well maybe she could star in something like Packed to the Rafters?
Being dead has never stopped anyone from coming back on neighbours.
I don’t watch Emmerdale but Madge was always my favourite neighbours character. I hope Anne’s new projects pan out for her! 🙂
Madge died on neighbours she can’t come back. And besides, now that Harold’s gone, there’s no reason to bring her back
Could she come back from cancer with amnesia on Neighbours?
No great loss as her character isn’t that important. To me anyway.
Now, if it was one of the Dingle clan…
