Dateline scoops coup

Mark Davis was in the right place at the right time, in the thick of a coup from when it broke out in Madagascar.

mdavisThis Sunday night Dateline has exclusive footage from a coup in Madagascar.

Video journalist Mark Davis (pictured) was in the right place at the right time, with his video camera in the thick of the coup from when it broke out until it ended. Davis was there as the coup toppled an elected government and installed a new, unknown leader – a former DJ.

Davis is tear-gassed on the streets as the old order tries to disperse the rapidly growing support for former disc jockey Andry Rajoelina.

This is an inside look at how the democratically elected leader, President Marc Ravalomanana, was toppled by Rajoelina’s forces that included members of the military and other, unknown elements.

Also, Dateline’s newest recruit, Adrian Brown, travels to China to look at the development of an electric car that may cut pollution in the world’s largest emitter of carbon dioxide. And George Negus will cross to London to find out the latest on the G-20 Summit.

Dateline airs 8:30pm Sunday on SBS.
