Freeview ad #2 due Sunday night

Here we go again. Freeview's marketing ad will screen simultaneously across five FTA networks, this Sunday night at 6:29pm.

freeview063On Sunday night the next stage of Freeview’s marketing campaign begins, with another ‘roadblock’ advertisement across all 5 free to air networks at the same time.

Freeview deployed the same concept when it hit TV screens last year.

This Sunday at 6:29pm the new 60-second promo will air across Seven, Nine, TEN, ABC and SBS simultaneously.

The promo, built around “why we love TV” promises some of the memorable free-to-air TV moments that Australians have ever witnessed across the years. It will be designed around moving vignettes, from historic and world-changing events to favourite characters, with drama-filled scenes and moments in sport.

“Everyone has their favourite TV moments or remembers a time when they were absolutely glued to the TV – this reminds us all of why we love our free TV,” said Freeview CEO Robin Parkes.

“We’ve captured some of those moments – I’m sure people will have their own favourites too.”

The campaign coincides with the arrival next week of Freeview-endorsed digital TV equipment in retailers nationally.

In a recent interview with TV Tonight, Parkes added, “It’s a new ad focussing much more on the content. The first ad went out very information heavy -EPGs, no contracts or fees. This is all about the love of TV. It will run as a roadblock at 6:29 and then every night it runs for a month and then there’s a 30 second ad which tells you what you have to do to get a set top box or high definition TV. And it drives them into a store to speak to their retailer.

“We’re not going to try and explain what you need in equipment, it says your local retailer can assist you in choosing a product.”

Freeview says an extra five free digital channels are already available (ABC2, SBS2, Seven HD, Nine HD and ONE) and new free-to-air channels will progressively roll out over the next year. A media conference is also planned for next week.

  1. I’ll be sure to be about 5 minutes behind the TV signal when this comes on and just fast forward it.

Why bother with Freeview when Windows Media Centre does everything it does and keeps the 30 second skip, as well as act as an entire media portal for your TV?

I was originally intruiged by Freeview, now I just want the new bloody channels and be done with it. Just because the Freeview model worked in the UK doesn’t mean it’ll work down here.

  2. Thanks for the heads up David, I’m going to set my Wiz to record this new ad….
Hmm, it’s not in the EPG on any of the channels, I’ll have to manually set a timer…
Or just record “The Biggest Loser”.

There’s a product page for the Freeview Beyonwiz FV-L1 at Beyonwiz site.

The features page seems to have been hurriedly copied and pasted from the DP-P1 page. They’ve even left in “Skip for certain seconds”. Ms Parkes may want her sticker back if the same mistake was made in the software 🙂

  3. Its funny, I don’t remember ever seeing ads extolling the benefits of illegal downloads of TV shows, but their popularity grows exponentially thanks to free TV networks making knee-jerk scheduling/cancellation decisions based on first night’s ratings.

If something fills a need, people will seek it out without bring enticed. But if you drown people in blatant half-truths and hollow spin, it only hardens their cynicism.

This campaign will be remembered with the same nausea as the GST ‘Unchained’ commercials.

  4. here we go again,
The 15 new digital channels are hidden somewhere in tv land, please purchase a new Freeview receiver and stay tuned for the next Freeview commercial on clues on how to find them. Run to your electronics store and purchase a new Freeview received this week before “out of stock” next week, then stay tuned this Sunday night where you will get the first clue on how to find ONE HD on your new Freeview receiver.

ONE HD is an is a new extra channel that will be available with your new freeview receiver, just remember not to ask what happened to the old 10HD because we never planned to introduce a new channel. All we did was rename 10HD to ONE HD and magic! now you have a new extra digital channel.
