TV Tonight was on the red carpet for all the action of subscription television's annual trophy night. The big winners included Satisfaction, Project Runway, Ruby Rose, Merrick & Rosso.

astras-019aLast night in Sydney pay television’s proudest, most glamorous and most underrated all assembled for the 7th Annual ASTRA Awards -the industry’s annual trophy night.

A modest media contingent turned out to snap the faces as they walked the red carpet, trying to snaffle an interview against the noisy throng of a rock band, screaming fans and the throbbing rhythms of Stomp.

Dressed to the nines were the likes of Antonia Kidman, Alison Whyte, Claudia Karvan, Helen Dalley, Kat Stewart, Ruby Rose, Susie Porter and the next batch of Australia’s Next Top Models.

Henry Roth kept himself busy by hosting a red carpet cam and interviewing celebs.

Inside Sydney’s Royal Hall of Industries a video clip of Pam Ann kicked off a fairly blue evening. There were several expletives let loose by presenters.

More than anything it was a very long night, with several stages peppered between several thousand guests. Stomp and Avenue Q (featuring Michaela Banas) kept the crows interested, while Hoodo Gurus closed th show with a rousing ‘what’ my scene?’

H.G. Nelson got a good laugh by acknowledging how nice it was to see every viewer in attendance. Justin Melvey and Mike Hammond’s “Phone” gag fell flat. Magda proved she can tap dance -sort of. Rosso had gone home by the time Merrick collected an award on their behalf. Brian McFadden trashed his own solo music career.

On the red carpet Tony Barber didn’t have much advice for the current game show hosts, confused that Let’s Make a Deal was already on the air at 5:30 everyday.

The winners of the viewer voted categories are: Favourite Program – Selling Houses Australia, The LifeStyle Channel; Favourite International Program – Grand Designs, The LifeStyle Channel; Favourite International Personality or Actor – Gordon Ramsay, The LifeStyle Channel; Favourite Male Personality – Merrick & Rosso, The Comedy Channel; and Favourite Female Personality – Ruby Rose, MTV.
