Judy Davis sparkles like Diamonds

If you want to get yourself an Emmy nomination, get Judy Davis.

starter-wife1I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. If you want to get yourself an Emmy nomination, get yourself Judy Davis. She’s practically a free pass to the shortlist.

And so America’s ABC network has picked up a four hour miniseries, which sees her star as a US senator.

Diamonds features five storylines linked to the “personal and political effects of the blood diamond trade on a global scale.” Davis’ character travels to Africa to find out why her daughter was killed at a diamond mine in Sierra Leone.

James Purefoy, Derek Jacobi, Louise Rose and Joanne Kelly also star.

Diamonds was shot in South Africa and Canada and originally developed and produced for Canada’s CBC. Alchemy TV put together the $15 million miniseries through a co-production between Canada and the U.K. It is also the company that just picked up format rights to Mother and Son.

Davis has an impressive 10 Emmy nominations under her belt, almost all of which are in the miniseries / telemovie category, with 3 wins. Her last was for The Starter Wife (pictured).
