  1. I think it is pretty well over for 9 for the year unless there is a major overhaul there. The launch of the 2nd channel would be their chance.

Then again, they may not be focussing on winning the ratings anymore and may have some other agenda. Who knows.

This week, 9 will win Sun and Mon, 10 on Tue, 9’s losses on Tue will wipe out their lead from Sun and Mon. Wed probably 7, Thur 9 again, but by bugger all, Fri 7 convincingly, Sat – well – love to see ABC do it again! End result: 7,9,10, ABC, SBS. Prediction done!!

  2. whoa. what a big response to a silly comment.

i have read some of gerry’s previous comments and i think we can safely wright him off as a 9 fanboy looking for a stir and leave it at that.

  3. @gerry: “The “seven effect” is slowly dying”

exactly what are you basing that on when 7 news and TT have been increasing steadily over the past few months and 9news/ACA have been steadily decreasing.

i 2nd what Jerome, tommyk, and Rett have said.

perhaps gerry you could further explain your views. examples? because i’m not convinced at all.

  4. @gerry, 9 may be throwing heaps of money at their late afternoon schedual. but that is no indication that it will work. and even if it does, it will be years at the least before their news overtake 7. and even if that happens what will they air in primetime? they have no long term hits at all.

no matter which way you look at it 9 is in the gutter and nothing is looking hopeful no matter how much spin. and they are a far cry from “slowly, yet steadily, improving”.

  5. So in summary Gerry you’re basically saying “Yay go 9 go team go, woooooo”….even though they fail to win weeks, and over the same period versus last year they have actually lost ground.

What are these new shows you speak of, Underbelly 1 repeats, 2.5 Men repeats, 20 to 01 repeats…need I go on?

  6. oh gerry, if i only had the energy to point out why every part of that comment was wrong i would. but you are obviously a ch9 fanboy extreemist looking for a stir and will not be interested in a civilized argument so i will just say;

9 is performing terribly and continues to get worse and we all know it.

  7. Gerry what are you talking about, 9 had a bad 2007, took a step foreward in 2008 and was winning for a bit but in 2009 they have taken 5 steps back again and have been beaten by 7 for the last 7 ratings weeks, which gyngell said himself was their strongest part of the year yet you say “Nine are slowly, yet steadily, improving”.

9 has no good rating shows except for underbelly and when thats gone in 3 weeks there is nothing proven for the whole year. wheras 7 still has heaps of big proven guns to come.

  8. People can say whatever they want about how Nine sucks or whatever, but when it comes down to it, Nine are slowly, yet steadily, improving. At the end of last year they were really low on ratings, and this year they are picking up quite well. Seven better look out as their “talent” is slowly running out.

Plus Nine have all these new shows coming, as well as that new afternoon show and the investments in a brand new news centre for Sydney. The “seven effect” is slowly dying. Can’t wait for Koche and Mel to be thrashed by the Today show. We all know it’s coming.

  9. Seven won the week in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Nine won in Brisbane. Ten came second (beating Nine) in Adelaide and Perth and came equal second with Nine in Melbourne.
Seven have such a huge lead from 6-7.30pm, that they would have to lose by alot from 7.30pm-midnight to lose the night…so unless their early evening sheds viewers, I cannot see Seven losing many weeks from now on. Nine had the advantage of winning early evening for years, and that’s why Seven could never beat them until now.
Personally, I prefer the U.S. version of ratings from 8pm-11pm, which gives a clear indication of who is watching a network for their entertainment shows, so no network is advantaged by a huge older audience who tunes in to watch their News hour.

  10. Hey David, Sorry to message you on this thread, but it was the easiest one at the time, i’ve just been talking to mate of mine who was at a Gladiators filming session last night and was complaining that they’re all show and no action. Now i’m confused, how can they be filming it if the show wasn’t renewed? Apparently it was up here in Brisbane.

  11. next week will be interesting. it will be 9’s last chance to pick up a win probably for the rest of the year. and they have loaded it with double underbelly and 2x20to1’s. and there are lots of shows that could go either way; missing pieces, u saved my life.

but 7 is known for coming out on top no matter what ie. week 8

  12. Not much between them all. Thought 7 would win by more though. Still don’t understand why we have non ratings periods as I don’t see any difference in the reporting. It seems to be an excuse for the networks to put on worse programs than usual. And the fact ABC can win a night is testimony to that. When you look at Foxtel ratings, they surge during non-ratings. Same amount of people, if not more, are watching TV through non-ratings – just not FTA due to poor options.
