Oz back to Oz

By David Knox on April 3, 2009 / Filed Under Programming 16

ozIf you’ve never seen Oz (the series, not the country) you’ll get half a chance as SBS is slating it for a repeat.

However it’s not quite the whole series. It will pick up from the fourth of the sixth series.

Nevertheless this HBO series is good wherever you pick it up from. Set almost entirely in the Oswald State Correctional Facility it’s a series that doesn’t particularly date.

Oz also has quite a cast, many of whom have graduated to other shows including Lost, Desperate Housewives, Dexter, Law and Order: SVU and more.

It picks up at 11pm Thursday April 16th on SBS.

Gah, what’s incredible is that I’ve never seen the first few seasons. The first time I saw it, it was around season 3 or 4. Now with this cycle, I’m rewatching the same material!

Well I too am dissapointed. When I saw the subject I was fairly excited because this was one show I missed from the start and have recently heard great things about. But starting from Season 4 is a bit far into the series for me. Guess I too shall leave it for my DVD list.

SBS should rerun this from the beginning, not from the fourth season.

When SBS screened the first three seasons of “Oz”, I was already watching those seasons on DVD. “Oz” is far the best series that I watched so far (all the way through), I don’t think I could ever have a nerve selling it.

This show jumped the shark this season I reckon. Especially with that miracle drug thing to increase the age of the prison inmates, wtf was that?? They really ran out of plotlines and it begins to show around this time. Luckily the Beecher vs Schillinger rivalry was still a decent story arc at this time

i will be watching, i have only seen 1 eps like 2 years ago or something. but this is what we need more HBO programing on SBS and soon to be SBS2. even if its repeats.

everyone out there which haven seen it should watch it,

@ Dick, “Christopher Meloni from SVU would be ecstatic to hear that he goes the full monty” are there anything for the guys in this show… just like there is in underbelly

Female (and male fans, I guess) of Christopher Meloni from SVU would be ecstatic to hear that he goes the full monty in a few scenes in Oz. He’s definitely not shy :D

Seasons 1-3 is only 24 episodes, so I might record these episodes and watch them after I catch up. I do remember SBS repeating Oz on Monday nights, but I think I still missed the beginning.

SBS repeated the first three seasons a year or two ago. They are picking up where they left off.

I was excited for a minute. But I would prefer to watch from the beginning, so this will have to remain on my DVD list.

Fantastic show. Surely SBS are missing a trick by not starting from 1.01 and establishing it as a staple on a regular night.

One of the best show ever.

I’m guessing they have been repeating it so many times that it justify starting/continuing from S4.

Picks up from S4. There were 6 made.

Disapointing – how do you pick up a series when you have already missed 3 whole series and have no idea on character development or plot lines etc. Just seems a wasted opportunity…

    Cheers

Yay. Brilliant show. But what ya mean it will pick up from the fourth of the sixth series. The fourth episode of series six? That would mean it would only be on for like 4 weeks.
